Overall Experience

Sister is happy at Allanbank, can be a bit stubborn to get involved, likes going swimming, happy to sit about, which you have to prompt her to do things, activities are quite a few, although she does get out with her sister quite a lot. Just feel with her being youngish and the others in her unit being older, it must be a bit of a long day, although she gets on with everyone. My only issue is the laundry, as her clothes don't seem to be returned.

My mother has not been a resident for long but my overall opinion is very positive. The staff are kind and caring and very professional but it is clear they are understaffed. My mother is well cared for and reasonably happy.

All staff and management are working together as a team. I have noticed there is sometimes only one member of staff on to look after eight residents, which is a lot to see too.
Overall. they give good support and encouragement.

There is a wide variety of food and of a great standard.

My 90-year-old mum moved here from hospital after some transient ischaemic attacks had left her very debilitated with high dependency.
The staff have made a tremendous effort to meet all her many care needs and to get to know her.
Two staff members and their team have been a tremendous support during this journey for Mum and the whole family.

Mum is improving slowly and after six weeks is attempting to speak a little. One of the first sentences we could make out was “They are very kind” referring to her Allanbank carers. I think that says it all!

I’m very happy with the care that my dad receives at Allanbank Care Home. After a “settling in” period he is integrating very well with the staff and other residents. The staff are very friendly, always have time for a chat with dad and are very attentive to his needs.
Dad has enjoyed trips out and is taken swimming every week which he enjoys immensely and has been very beneficial to his general well-being. The staff also provide activities for the residents such as dominos, karaoke, music sessions and arts and crafts.
Any issues that have arisen have been dealt with in a timely manner and resolved satisfactorily.

I would have no hesitation in recommending Allanbank to anyone looking for a place for their loved one where they would be treated with kindness, dignity and respect.

I'm very happy with the care Mum receives at Allanbank. She is treated with kindness by all staff members. Usually, I only visit at weekends and sometimes there is only one care worker in the unit which isn't ideal. Mum managed to get out of the care home twice but since then a notice has been put on the external door to remind people to make sure it's closed properly. There are lots of activities for residents Mum is taken swimming weekly.

My wife was admitted to Allanbank eighteen months ago, six and a half years after she was diagnosed with dementia. She immediately settled in the home and never mentioned coming home. I have found the staff very caring, my wife thinks she is in there to help and asks other residents how they are and if she can help them. She takes part in numerous activities provided and has been on trips away from the home. The staff have always made me feel welcome and kept me informed on how my wife is doing. The home is very clean and well maintained.

It's been six months since my dad became a resident at Allanbank, we had a few teething troubles, which management resolved quickly. The staff in the unit are amazing, everyone is very friendly, they make a fuss of my dad, nothing is a bother for them and I feel I can speak to them if I have any worries. I am contacted promptly regarding any concerns they have with my dad. I would recommend Allanbank to anyone, from the manager right down to the nurses, carers kitchen staff, domestics and maintenance personnel they all have a smile and a friendly word.

The care my late father had was exceptional. I know I can speak on behalf of my family as a whole. From the day my dad arrived to his passing, the care he received was fantastic. Every member of staff was motivated and took such care of my father.

There are too few staff who are experienced. The few experienced staff are good but it is clear they are stretched far too thin. The residents are left in their rooms far too long particularly in the evening. There is difficulty in finding any staff after 7 pm. The staff (with some exceptions) seem to not be bothered to engage with residents confined to their rooms. The younger staff are nice enough but totally inexperienced and simply not up to the task. My wife has been in the establishment for about a month and all I have heard regarding the reputation of the care sector in general is sadly and unfortunately too true.

Our son is in Allanbank Care Home. He is getting well looked after. The management and care staff are all great with them. Everyone gets on well with him and he is very happy in Allanbank Care Home. They cannot do enough for him and he is coming on leaps and bounds since going there. His dad and I are very pleased with everything the staff and carers are doing. Cannot fault them at all. They are very helpful.

Our overall view of Allanbank Care Home in Dumfries is outstanding. The care and attention to detail never ceased to amaze us. During the difficult times when staff were off with covid and people were working long hours to cover, the standard of care our mum received did not decline at all which is a credit not only to all staff but how the home is managed. Communication is so much better now and we were always kept in the loop. Mum's needs were well supported by the skilful and highly trained team. Honestly can't thank everyone enough for what they have done for mum while she was there. Keep up the good work.

My wife is treated with compassion, kindness, patience, and dignity. I am contacted immediately if she has any problem such as a fall or a health issue that is giving concern. There has been a problem of poor contact by phone with management until recently. A newly installed phone menu system has greatly helped.

We moved our brother into Allanbank in May 2021 from another care home. It has taken a while for him to settle down but can honestly say that because of the caring, kind, and understanding staff that can't do enough for him, that he looks the best I have seen him in quite a while. The professionalism of the staff starts at the care home front door with the covid team. He is definitely in the correct place for his needs.
