Winner of the Scotland Care Home of the Year Accolade in the Caring UK Awards 2023, the team at Allanbank create so many opportunities to enrich their residents’ lives at the home, which has stunning views of the countryside and the River Nith.

The team create their own musicals, like The Sound of Music and Sister Act, with full make up and fantastic costumes, the residents love singing along. The team often perform in the home's car park for the local community to enjoy.

There are regular swimming sessions at the local hydrotherapy pool, as well as tai chi classes.

The entire team embrace activities. One of the carers is a talented artist so runs art sessions with the residents. She even organised an exhibition for their families, transforming the home’s bar into a gallery.

Residents who love cooking spend time with the home’s chef, who helps them to recreate their favourite recipes, which are added to Allanbank’s Recipe Book.

The local football club run a reminiscence group, where the residents meet fellow fans and former players.

The home has a fantastic relationship with the Theatre Royal – which donates front row tickets for residents to enjoy performances.

The team are passionate about keeping their residents connected to their local community, so organise regular pub lunches, visits to garden centres, church coffee mornings, animal farms and community high teas and dances.

The residents can also enjoy regular appointments with a mobile hairdresser in the home’s hair and nail salon.

Allanbank is made up of smaller individual communities, with cosy lounge and dining areas, which gives it a warm, family feel. There are enclosed courtyard gardens, with wheelchair-friendly pathways and raised planters, where the residents enjoy growing their own produce.

And the home-cooked food is a real highlight, with home baking every day for afternoon tea.

My uncle received amazing care during the year he spent at Allanbank. The staff were so dedicated and caring and always went above and beyond for those in their care.
I cannot praise Allanbank highly enough for the work they do and know that it was because of the care my uncle received that we had
this final year with him which I am so thankful for. We live a two-hour drive from Dumfries so could only visit once a week, though I phoned daily and spoke to my uncle, but never doubted he was in safe hands at all times. If there were any concerns about my uncle the staff phoned me immediately and felt they were like extended family to us.
