Overall Experience

The facilities at Deeside are exemplary; clean and stylish, giving dignity to the residents by appearing more like a hotel than a Care home. The reception area (with coffee area, hair salon and cinema) is a lovely touch - giving residents the feeling of "going somewhere" without them having to leave the premises. The staff are all wonderful, very friendly and always smiling - there is a sense of teamwork and a good relationship with the Manager. Nothing is amiss with general care, hygiene or meals, but on the downside, there doesn't appear to be time for the carers to get involved with the residents. i.e. Finding time to ensure a resident has personal items to hand or offering a change of scenery like a coffee downstairs. The organised activities are excellent but it would be nice to have an additional staff member responsible for the general "spirits" of the residents because understandably there will always be a physical need of one resident that will override the "whim" of another.

Always friendly and helpful. Very good at advising me by phone if my wife has had any medical problems. Strict adherence to Covid-19 precautions. The room appears to be clean and the laundry well sorted. Her care staff seem to be genuinely interested in her welfare. The room itself is quite small but adequate.

This was the saddest and most stressful weeks in almost 45 years of marriage. My 69-year-old husband with advanced dementia entered the home in August under very difficult government rules. I’m sure the nurses were caring towards him, but he deteriorated rapidly, and this was not acknowledged by management. At no time did I see him inside, and he could so easily have died without his loving family being near him. I was not given essential visitor status until he was actually in hospital, dying. He deteriorated so much that he was admitted to hospital, after which he came home for palliative care, and died peacefully at home. I have not had any form of apology.

Dad moved into Deeside in July 2019 and we as a family are very pleased with it. This year with covid has been very difficult for everyone. Thankfully Deeside has been covid free - well done to the team at Deeside. It's very sad for the residents that perhaps one member of the family was allowed in during these dreadful times. Firstly, this would have helped the carers, giving them more time for others and of course, the resident would have one to one with the family member.

Right from when Dad moved in, we were all made so welcome. The staff were friendly, attentive and caring. They did everything possible to help Dad settle in. Staff regularly communicated with me on Dad's well being. When Dad's health and mobility changed they made sure he had the proper aids to keep him safe and comfortable. With the Covid restrictions, staff have helped me keep in touch with Dad, by phone calls and Facetime. There are also lots of pics on Facebook of all the activities on offer, which is great to see. Sadly, Dad has passed away. Staff showed compassion and supported me at this very sad time. It was so reassuring to know that Dad got the best care there is at a time he needed it most and for that I am grateful. The management and staff are fantastic and should be proud of themselves for doing things right. Unfortunately, I had experienced another care home in the same area that are doing things so badly. Well done to all the staff at Deeside and thank you for caring.

Safety/security is less than excellent because of some patients/residents wandering into others bedrooms during the night. Several activities are on offer but I have been unable, or more correctly, unavailable mostly. I can say that I am overall, very impressed by Deeside Care Home and grateful for the time and care given to my sister and myself.

My sister was in an 'interim' room - waiting for residency.
Everything was truly excellent; staff at all levels - competent, efficient and very kind.
Food good too!

One negative aspect: a patient wandering the corridor, opening doors of other patients' rooms.

Deeside has some excellent members of staff and many good qualities (including the atmosphere, food and activities) however, I was disappointed in the end of life care experienced by my father and would not recommend it for this category of resident unless changes are made. Buzzer response times varied and they seemed short-staffed at times which adversely affected the quality of care they provided.
