I can not praise Tor-na-Dee enough. It's very tough realising it's time for a loved one to go into care and the team at Tor-na-Dee made the whole process for us so much easier. All residents are treated extremely well, individual care and attention is given to every resident , and they treat all residents like a member of their own family. The home just seems to go that extra mile which for us we cannot praise enough. My Mum has been a different person since she moved into Tor-na-Dee and this is due to the amazing care she receives every day. The staff are trained to a high standard and really are very special people. Myself and my family will never be able to thank them enough for everything they have done. In my eyes, one of the best Care Homes I have ever witnessed, well done to everyone at Tor-na-Dee you are all truly amazing, keep up the good work.

Tor-na-Dee is a great home. My father had a massive stroke and spent 5 months in hospital so it was a relief for us to get him into our first choice of home. This brought us such reassurance, especially when he was welcomed with the words "welcome home". From that moment, he has been treated with compassion, care and laughter - all making us and him feel at ease. The staff, especially his lead nurse, have a lovely relationship with home and to see him smile with them is incredibly touching. The home are great at keeping us informed. We donated a model railway to the home and they made it into a big "opening of the railway" event and dad was asked to open it. They go beyond their "call of duty". Great home! Beautiful refurbishment. A true family.

Tor-na-Dee is a centre of excellence! Both my parents were there however, mum is no longer with us but my father continues to be looked after with care, kindness, compassion and patience.
The staff en-masse are welcoming, helpful and extremely hard working.
They are genuinely interested in the people in their care and are very supportive to the families. The activity co-ordinators are second to none, a huge variety of activities provided.

The manager is hands on and knows her staff and her residents and has created a lovely atmosphere. The only reason I have scored the rooms between good and excellent is because the recent refurb of the public areas makes them look a bit tired. However, it is all the other aspects that really matter.

Both my grandparents have dementia and have stayed at Tor-na-Dee for a few years. They have been shown great kindness and treated with dignity throughout. After my grandma passed away in January my granda has been well cared for with many staff going the extra mile to ensure he is as happy as can be expected. His recent move to a different unit has been fantastic with the care improving still and giving him a more stimulating environment to live in.

Having had a very sad experience with another care home when my Father was in a similar circumstance, I approached my Mum's admission anywhere with great trepidation. However, Tor-Na-Dee has made it so much easier for us by providing the standard of care they do for Mum. Having arrived from hospital underweight and frail, she was so much better and happier in a couple of months. All non-care staff I've encountered have been polite, helpful and cheerful. The care staff are excellent and we've seen very little staff turnover which is a blessing. Their patience and kindness, given their daily work, is to be applauded They are well trained in going with the flow and using diversions. The activities staff add much to the mix and know the residents well. Their organisation of daily activities, tasks, events, concerts, fresh air time in the lovely gardens, etc., helps to give Tor-Na-Dee a good feeling of community. This care home is a model to be emulated, please keep it up.

The standard of care my Father receives is generally very good. His carers are kind and treat him with dignity and patience. The care staff sometimes seem to be overstretched and short in numbers at times. The activities staff work very hard to provide a wide variety of activities to suit different interests, the musical entertainment is particularly well received.

I can't praise Tor-na-Dee highly enough. My mother has been there for more than six years and sadly has deteriorated and has had no real quality of life for a long, long time. Throughout, all the staff at Tor-na-Dee have cared for her with great kindness, patience and understanding. They have also supported my brother and me through difficult times. I am very sorry that my mother's last years have been so difficult and so much against what she would have wanted, but it has been a great comfort to my brother and me to know how well she is being looked after.

Meet the Team (1)

Susan Jones-Wood
Susan Jones-WoodJob Title:Home Manager

I’ve been a registered nurse for more than a decade, mainly working with older people.

I chose to join Care UK because the organisation’s values match my own. There is also ongoing training, and we receive great support from the wider team.

One of the most important aspects of my role is to ensure everyone is safe and happy. It is wonderfully rewarding to see the positive difference the team here makes, enabling residents to live a fulfilling life.

As a home manager, it is important to be able to bring the team together and empower colleagues. Seeing a well-run team deliver the best possible care with a smile and seeing colleagues enjoying their roles makes me so proud of what I do. A big part of that means you need to have patience, empathy and kindness in this role; a good sense of humour helps too.

In 2024, we were recognised as the region of the year. For me and my colleagues, this was an incredible highlight.

Outside of work, I’m an enthusiastic scuba diver and have been lucky enough to dive in some amazing places; the Silfra tectonic plates are on my list to visit. I also have rescue dogs and help fund raise for various rescue charities.
