Lovely staff, always very helpful. I feel my parents are well looked after and I don't need to worry about them. There's plenty of activities to do and lots going on. Both my parents seem happy and involved. I pop in at various times and it's never a problem. The staff know my parents well and my parents like the staff and interaction. The food looks yummy too!

My Mum turned 100 a few days ago and we had a small family get together to celebrate with her. I was overwhelmed with the amount of effort and preparation gone into by the Manager, Deputy Manager, Activity co-ordinator and other staff members to make this a memorable time for her. The room was decorated with banners and balloons and a finger buffet was supplied. I cannot put into words how much I appreciate everything the staff did, and continue to do, to ensure mum is well taken care of. They go the extra mile for their residents. Nothing is too much trouble.. Springfield Bank Care Home in my opinion is an excellent Care Home.

When I was working, I was a care assistant working between care homes and agencies, and I have experienced many types of homes, and I can quite easily say Springfield Bank, in my opinion, rates very highly against most of them. My husband likes the staff, and they treat him well. I also get treated with respect. It was a shock when he had to come in for care, but no matter when I phone or ask about him, they take time to talk to me and reassure me that he is fine.

My mum has been in the home for six months now, and I'm so pleased with the improvement in her health. Her legs have improved and her diabetes is in control. I'm happy with the staff taking care of my mum.

When I visited, I got an immediate feeling my mum, who has dementia, would be settled here. Mum has been here two weeks and is doing well in the home. The staff are very supportive and helpful and have made sure Mum gets interaction with staff and residents, which she needs. I'm very relieved Mum has settled in well, and this has helped me enormously.

My mum is well cared for, and the staff seem genuinely fond of her. They are always kind and patient with her and always friendly and welcoming when I visit. Recent changes in management have led to a happier atmosphere and more staff on each shift, which has allowed more attention to detail in her personal care.

Overall, very satisfied with the care home and staff. I think they excel in very difficult circumstances, and with this view, it's difficult to fault them. My mother has improved considerably since going to Springfield Bank, and feel it is down to a lot of love and attention from the staff.

The staff regularly contact us if ever medication changes etc, which I appreciate or if Mum is under the weather, which again, I appreciate. We speak on the phone whenever we want to, and staff are always available to take it to Mum. A couple of days before Mums birthday, we had a small family gathering. Lovely, cosy room, which we could decorate; it made a lovely visit for her. On her actual birthday, there was only the two of us visiting, which was a little quiet, but the door opened, and the girls came in with a cake and sang happy birthday to her; she loved it. Thank you all for making her day.

Since my dad has been a resident, the staff have been welcoming and supportive. They keep me informed about every aspect of my dad's care. My dad is happy with the care, and the meals are good, he says. Like everywhere, there are small niggles, but not worth mentioning. Overall, I am happy, and the new manager is a Godsend. Very approachable, as they all are. Overall, very happy - no complaints.

The manager appears disinterested and is reluctant to engage unless there are no other options.
Dedicated mobiles are often uncharged/unanswered or misplaced.
Landline can often go unanswered for long spells.
Wellbeing information is not provided always has to be requested.
Staff morale obviously low and appears to be short-staffed on numerous occasions.

The continued failure to replaced the deputy manager is detrimental.

My 64 year old husband was admitted in March with Alzheimer’s disease. I cannot praise the staff highly enough. I was heartbroken to place him in care but I was amazed how quickly they got to know him as an individual. They are not carers to me they are extended family. He is so much more settled and happy. I was a nurse myself for 40 years and I am so impressed with the skill and care the team have given to my husband. I don’t know how they do it but they are amazing.

The home has significantly improved since the new home manager took over finally after several different home managers, they have found the kind of manager the home has been in desperate need of for a long time! After being concerned about the level of care Mum was receiving last year, the return of some fab care staff has eased my concerns - definitely missed from the home and big congratulations on the babies ladies, and to all the staff, keep up the good work you are all inspirational!

What does kindness mean to you?
“Going over and above to make somebody smile. You never know what people have going on behind closed doors, being someone that can put a smile on their faces means the word to me.”
As a Registered Nurse, Rhiannon has gained a wealth of experience in providing care and nursing support to elderly people, to enrich their lives. Rhiannon has worked in the care sector since leaving school. She assisted looking after her father who had dementia until he went into a care home. Rhiannon admired how Care Assistants and staff worked in all care settings and wanted to be admired for providing care for others.
Rhiannon’s HC-One badge says ‘Proud Mum’ as she is a new mum to her 10-month-old little boy, Hamish.
When asked what she enjoys most about her role, Rhiannon remarked:
“I like being able to mentor staff; helping them see their potential and how to achieve this. Being a part of a team that helps families feel at ease when they are picking a home for their loved one, like I had to go through with my dad.”
When describing her biggest achievement, Rhiannon commented:
“Working my way up to Home Manager, this was my future goal, and I am so proud I made it here. Also, I have been nominated for four Kindness in Care awards for a variety of different reasons. I received a Kindness in Care award from one of the Residents family members who nominated me for dedication and commitment to their loved one.”

Outside of work, Rhiannon enjoys shopping and spending time with her family. She loves being a mum to her little boy and her dog.
