Staff are excellent and welcoming, however, I am concerned with the ratio of staff to residents as often there seems to be a lack of staff. When Mum first came, I was concerned that there was a lack of knowledge about my mum's capabilities as no care plan has been done, often find her sitting alone staring into space.

The care my mother receives is very good. We are all extremely happy and all the staff are friendly to my mother and ourselves as a family.

Only one concern which was swiftly dealt with, the room and W.C were a bit dirty one day when we visited, dirty clothes and pads left from our previous visit.

Thank you for your very kind feedback about the care in Springfield Bank and the friendly staff. I am very sorry that you had to raise an issue with cleanliness, but pleased that it was immediately addressed. Please be assured that we will monitor this.

All the staff were very caring and attentive at all times. Very clean and tidy. The new dining rooms are lovely. All the staff were very caring. Rooms could do with a lick of paint to freshen them up.

My mother has been a resident here in Springfield Bank for just over 2 years.
In the 2 years that she has been here we have been very impressed with the care that my mother receives. Whenever we ask for something to be done which is not often we find that it’s carried out quickly and efficiently.

I would recommend Springfield Bank to anyone whose parent is suffering from Dementia, my wife and I feel that the care provided here is of a standard that meets the patients needs and we don’t have to worry anymore about where or how my mother is.

My mentally handicapped brother was transferred to Springfield Bank Care Home just before Christmas of 2018. Not surprisingly, there was a period where the change of environment for him and carers was unsettling for him. However, he now seems very comfortable and very well cared for. I find all of the staff extremely helpful and concerned in their care for my brother. They are thoughtful in their suggestions with regards to on going aspects of his day to day life. All the staff levels are accessible and are extremely friendly. I am very happy with my brother's situation.

I was very happy with the level of care given to my gran. The staff were very kind and helpful toward us all. The difference in my gran from when she arrived from hospital til now is amazing. The only reason we moved my gran from Springfield Bank was to be closer to family and friends.

I would like to thank the management, care assistants and nurses, utility staff and admin staff for the care they give to my friend. I know he was hard at times, not taking his medication and not getting washed etc and I am certain he will miss you, even the doctor. He is going into another home where my daughter works and it is handier.

It seems to have taken a long time, but I can finally see some improvements. It's good to see staff that I recognise when I come in to ask about Mum. Staff looked a bit more relaxed, though there is still a lot of supply staff who come and go. Residents like my Mother need consistency of care and a 'kent face' goes a long way in helping her feel secure and more relaxed. Mum isn't fond of the meals and while she is very fussy foodwise, some of the meals I've seen don't look very appetising.

My father has bee a resident for just short of 1 year. Before that, my mother-in-law was a resident for nearly 3 years. She died last year. Over all these times I have nothing but the highest regard for Springfield Bank. I believe all the boxes below to be "first class" but in particular I would highlight the quality and care and support afforded by staff to be of the highest order. Importantly staff seem to really care.

Obviously, I can only comment on what I have observed since my mum moved to Springfield Bank last year but at all times, she has been cared for and supported to a very high standard. She has been treated with the utmost care and respect throughout.

Her self-esteem has vastly improved as has her overall quality of life. I am aware of the recent negative report by the care home inspections but my observations and experience have been very positive indeed. Well done to all staff and management.

My mother was a resident at this care home from October 2015 to June 2018 when she sadly passed away. She was given the best of care at all times and we as a family have no concerns regarding her personal or medical care. She was always encouraged to get involved in activities. She was also very satisfied with meals and again was encouraged to eat. If at any time my mother was ill or needed anything we were always contacted and advised accordingly. She also enjoyed being pampered by having her hair and nails done.

Staff, not enough recognition on what they do.

Reply from Clare Sheehan, Careline Advisor at Springfield Bank Care Home

Thank you for taking the time to give such positive feedback. We do have a staff recognition and reward scheme in place called Kindness in Care where we can formally recognise staff’s contribution with an award and a voucher. It would be great if you were able to complete the short nomination form the next time you visit and we can pass this on to our staff.

My husband has resided here for almost 4 years. The first 2 years were difficult for both of us and was not helped with the attitude of some staff. In the past, when I've made complaints, I seldom heard back. Since last year under new management, I have made a couple of complaints and I have had feedback and seen changes made.

I have noticed improvements to decor and atmosphere, staff taking more time to feed residents, taking time to talk to them. I feel the permanent staff are working hard to make things work but need more trained staff.

Excellent care and attention during my aunts time in the home. For the 3.5 years, she was there I was always advised regarding any health issues. Staff were extremely helpful and sympathetic to her and the family during the day prior to her death in July 2017.

If there is a management policy, it has not reached the carers. It seems to be an individual thing. Simple things e.g toilet tissue has to be requested. Refreshments are served at the whim of the carer and quite often ignored.
Slamming of doors is annoying and constant carers are graded poor to good with a small percentage excellent.
Overall not good.

Troublesome residents roam at will and a cause for concern.

The home is OK. My mum has settled really well since April 2015. Some of the staff are OK, others are not. Her room is always nice and clean and tidy. The only negative I have is that a lot of her clothes go missing or get mixed up with other people's.

I am quite happy with the care that my uncle is receiving, he seems to be quite happy here. The staff are really good with him and put up with his cheek!!! The atmosphere is great here, and as I pass and see the other residents, they seem happy. My uncle does not like being awakened during the night. My only black mark is the smell of urine as you walk in the front door and around the corridor.

What does kindness mean to you?
“Going over and above to make somebody smile. You never know what people have going on behind closed doors, being someone that can put a smile on their faces means the word to me.”
As a Registered Nurse, Rhiannon has gained a wealth of experience in providing care and nursing support to elderly people, to enrich their lives. Rhiannon has worked in the care sector since leaving school. She assisted looking after her father who had dementia until he went into a care home. Rhiannon admired how Care Assistants and staff worked in all care settings and wanted to be admired for providing care for others.
Rhiannon’s HC-One badge says ‘Proud Mum’ as she is a new mum to her 10-month-old little boy, Hamish.
When asked what she enjoys most about her role, Rhiannon remarked:
“I like being able to mentor staff; helping them see their potential and how to achieve this. Being a part of a team that helps families feel at ease when they are picking a home for their loved one, like I had to go through with my dad.”
When describing her biggest achievement, Rhiannon commented:
“Working my way up to Home Manager, this was my future goal, and I am so proud I made it here. Also, I have been nominated for four Kindness in Care awards for a variety of different reasons. I received a Kindness in Care award from one of the Residents family members who nominated me for dedication and commitment to their loved one.”

Outside of work, Rhiannon enjoys shopping and spending time with her family. She loves being a mum to her little boy and her dog.
