Strachan House is situated near Craigcrook Castle and all the amenities of Edinburgh city centre. This purpose built home benefits from a high standard of decor, spacious courtyard, and beautifully landscaped gardens. The home provides first-class 24-hour nursing care alongside expert care for people with dementia in the dedicated Memory Lane unit. Care for people with MS, Parkinsons Disease and many other medical conditions is also provided.

A team of highly-qualified and attentive staff really focus on the individual needs of residents with a tailored care plan for each person. And their dedication can be seen across the board - in cooking, hospitality and regular music therapy sessions.

Services at Strachan House include daily activities, daily physiotherapy, visiting Health & Wellbeing therapists, on site hairdresser and visiting chiropodist.

Strachan House sets the standard to which all care homes should aspire - at every level. Strong leadership is evident and all staff, without exception, are truly amazing. The environment is full of fun and laughter, and the staff work together as a highly effective team; their top priority being the
exceptional care and quality of life of the residents. The rapport, engagement, love, kindness and respect shown to our dad are way beyond our family's expectations. The 'Memory Lane' team here have become part of our family and our dad, a part of theirs. For us, Strachan House is absolute peace of mind, and our Dad's very happy home.

My mother took a little while to settle as she has Alzheimer's disease but everyone at the care home was loving and caring and now my mother is happier than she has been for a few years.
She loves music and dancing and there is always something for her to get involved in.

Quite astonishing level of care. The sympathy, generosity, friendliness and patience, let alone professionalism, of every member of staff from the very top through every level of care and support staff, including cleaning and maintenance staff, was quite humbling. One could not have asked for or even

The special management and whole team are first class, professional and friendly. They provide in this daily work a wonderful environment and ambience. In one word homely and nothing seems too much trouble for them. I have probably been a little hard in some of my answers but have tried to stick to
the right balance of my impressions. For example, how do you compare the food to a top class restaurant? In summing up, my mother is extremely happy residing in Strachan House and the care provided when she took ill most likely saved her life. Thank you, the family are very happy and grateful.

As a family, we cannot praise Strachan House highly enough. My mother has now been a resident for 6 weeks and we are delighted with the care that she is getting. The staff have gone to great lengths to get to know her personally and work out how best to care for her to minimise any distress or agitation.
The communication with the family is impressive and staff discuss all aspects of Mum's well-being and listen and act upon our suggestions. All staff greet us with a smile and are very supportive of my father and all the family during what has been a difficult time for everyone. All care homes should be like Strachan House!

The staff at Memory Lane in Strachan House are simply excellent. My Mother has been a resident at Strachan House for almost 1 year. In that time, the nurses, carers and all the staff have got to know her extremely well. Nothing is too much trouble. I am happy that she is so well cared for. When
I visit, I too am treated as part of the family. This is important to me as I miss my Mother.

This is Dad's first week at Strachan House - having moved from another care home in Edinburgh. The atmosphere is strikingly different. Here there is a real buzz.


The staff are happy and extremely caring and welcoming. Dad has high falls risk but is fiercely independent and the staff watch him from

a distance and give Dad as much independence as his condition allows, and treat him with real dignity.


On day 1 Dad said he would like to see The Kelpies and the care home are planning a residents trip to see them. The staff engage with Dad so well - immediately grasping his likes, dislikes and life history. They have sourced a low bed and Dad's mobility has improved already as he is encouraged to mobilise and walk, assisted by staff.


I think Dad will be happy here.

Although my aunt has only been in Barchester Strachan House Care Home for approx: 7 weeks. It has been obvious that the staff are well trained, they are friendly without condescending. Efficient without being obtrusive and seem genuinely keen to assist the residents. The home is clean and fresh. The
nursing staff are caring and firm. I am delighted to have found such a place for anybody who needs 24/7 care.

The staff at Strachan House gave my husband excellent care throughout his stay of more than three years. I am particularly grateful for the great care taken in the last few weeks of his life. It is one of the good qualities of the staff that they are always polite to the residents. Any minor inconveniences
only affected me and never him. No home could have provided better treatment, I firmly believe.

I can't praise the staff at Strachan House highly enough. They are all caring and thoughtful to residents and helpful and friendly to their family members. Being of 'sound mind' but not body I have answered the ratings as best I can. I get very frustrated at times but play scrabble once a week, bingo (for a mars bar) twice a week. I have joined the book group (which has only met once) and the classical music group (which has met twice).
I read a lot
in my room, knit for the cat and dog home and for the premature baby unit. Food could be improved, nursing care is good - dispensing pills. Occupational therapists are excellent. Carers - not enough of them, but good on the whole.

Home has not been the same since last manager left, staffing levels are not as good, although the staff that are there just now are excellent with my relative. I have never seen the manager on the floor. Website needs updating, I have never seen or met any of the staff on the website working on my relatives
floor, some of the staff on the website have now left.

Hello, My name is Paul Dow and I am the Head Chef here at Strachan House, I joined the team at Strachan House in July 2021 and I bring 30 years of experience with me. I trained as a chef in an army kitchen before venturing into the hospitality industry in Foxton working in a hotel in Hythe.


I then moved to Edinburgh to work in a high-class restaurant and stayed with the same company for 24 years before joining the team here at Strachan House. I look forward to my new adventure of getting to know the residents and providing them with a high standard of food as they so deserve.

I have worked in Strachan House since 2014. I first started as a carer before moving on to activities, which I really enjoyed. I started working in reception at the beginning of 2019 and with any new role you are forever learning. I believe I now have the best of both worlds as I work 3 days in reception and 2 days on activities. This allows me to spend some quality time with our residents and enhance their day-to-day lifestyle. I am passionate about my roles within the home.
