Norwood offers dementia care in one house and care and support to the frail and elderly in another. Both houses provide care for people with Parkinson’s disease, Huntington's disease and to those who are looking for palliative care.

The focus is on individualised care for people in a homely and welcoming setting, situated in the historical town of Barrhead near Glasgow. Partners or siblings can stay in some of the home’s larger bedrooms, and many rooms have en-suite facilities.

At mealtimes residents enjoy both hot and cold options to choose from, as well as a popular Night Bite menu that is available from 6.30pm to 6.30am.

Arts and crafts, quizzes and karaoke are all regular activities enjoyed by residents. Norwood has a dedicated activity co-ordinator who works hard to ensure residents of all abilities can participate in daily activities to keep active and stimulated.

My experience has been really good, but some areas could be better.
The staff are very helpful and friendly except for one in particular and the manager is great, security is great but on the other hand hard to get into the building to visit when there is no one on the desk and when I have tried on
several times to call head office and can not get thru to anyone.

My experience has been good. The manager and staff are very helpful and friendly. Security is great but could do with someone in the front office during the day as having to wait for someone to come, which could take up to 15 to 20 minutes before getting into the building and the same trying to get
through on the phone to speak to someone. It took 45 minutes for my call to be answered.

I arrived in August 2024, I was not pleased at first, as there is no shower in room, only a wash basin and WC. However, there is a shower room opposite my own room I can use this each day, so that problem is resolved. The food is usually good and full breakfast is available on request. Staff are very
friendly and helpful and immediately come when needed. So far, I can only make favorable comments re the staff, but there is only one person for activities and therefore she is quite restricted in what she can do, but is very friendly and tries to include everyone.
Reply from Paul Lawson, National Sales Manager at Norwood Care HomeThank you very much for your review and kind comments about our staff team. At Norwood we have a mixture of ensuite rooms and rooms with shared facilities. We are pleased that you are happy to use the shower room opposite your own room and are now happily settled into your new home. Thanks again and best wishes.

Mum is a resident in Norwood Care Home approaching her 11th year this year.
Team Norwood do a wonderful job in looking after our mum who has complex needs, due to her rare health condition. Providing personal care and meal menus that incorporate and meet Mum's dietary requirements. All her needs are
taken care of.
The staff and management team are very welcoming and go to great lengths to include all residents in daily activities. Providing family days, lots of live entertainment and celebrations throughout the year. Norwood is a huge part of the Barrhead community and surrounding areas. Highly recommend Norwood Care Home for any of your loved ones who may need to use these facilities as they navigate their way through their journey in life.
Big thank you to team Norwood from our family for continually looking after our mum. We don't know what we would do without you all. Your commitment is truly appreciated.

I have found working as a volunteer at Norwood Care Home has been a great experience. The staff have been very welcoming and supportive and the Wellbeing Coordinator has been especially good. She has helped me get my confidence back. The staff work incredibly hard and their attitude towards the residents
is fantastic and I also get to meet my aunt which is great, hadn't seen her in years.

My mum has just moved into Norwood in the past week, however, I am very pleased that she secured a place in this home as I visited many prior to making a selection and this was the place that impressed me most. The environment, the staff and conversations with current residents all confirmed this. I
also like that it is a mixed unit and not solely dementia.

Well done Norwood team, when family come to visit, there is always a lovely, warm atmosphere.
One nurse takes great care of Mum, keeping her well.
Staff are always courteous and friendly, and all go out at special and seasonal events.
Kitchen staff always provide nutritious and delicious meals
and buffets.
Lots of fun activities are always on offer to keep both residents and families entertained.
Thanks, everyone.

My sister is in Norwood Care Home following a setback I, together with my wife and daughter visited her last Saturday. I found the carers excellent in their treatment of and attention to my sister, as did my wife and daughter. They treated us like friends and their attention to her was exemplary. As
I live in Southport, England, we do not get to see her very often and our recent visit makes us comfortable with how she is looked after. I cannot remember the name of the charming young lady who is my sister's main carer, but her friendly smile, which accompanied her words to us and my sister is to be commended as is her happy attitude and most pleasant manner. She is a treat to be with!

My mother-in-law has lived happily at Norwood for 11 months. Previous to her moving in she had sustained a really nasty injury to her leg. The staff did an absolutely amazing job in getting her leg completely healed. They kept us informed at each stage of her recovery and did a truly remarkable job.
The staff are very pleasant and cheery and there are plenty of daily activities to keep all residents occupied and happy. The social media posts are brilliant for us as we don't live locally and this way we can see what my mother-in-law has been involved in each day.

Norwood Care Home has truly been an incredible experience for me as a volunteer. The staff at this facility are not only professional and compassionate, but they also create a warm and welcoming environment for the residents. The care and attention given to each individual is truly remarkable. I have

My father-in-law has been in Norwood twice so far for a two-week stay each time. We have always felt he is safe, secure and happy there, he didn't want to leave after his first two-week stay with them. He has advanced Alzheimer and the staff know exactly how to care for him and how to treat him not
only well, but with dignity and respect. It is definitely where he will spend any further respite stays. We enjoy seeing what he has been up to via their social media page which is updated regularly. Fabulous service and all the staff we have met have been amazing.

Mum has complex medical needs and really suffered during lockdown, as most residents did, but the staff learned to use Zoom which we continue to use today.
I am most pleased with the appointment of an activities coordinator who has offered activities to encourage mental stimulation.

I feel as if the standards of the home has went down over the last year. No activities at all when they need it especially during Covid. How long can they make the excuse because of Covid. Staff are fantastic but under so much pressure due to staff shortages. Talking to staff; morale is down, also now
informed by the Head Nurse that the wrong dosage of medication was given to my mum and dad on two occasions, they suffer from heart failure.
Reply from Paul Lawson, Customer Service Manager at Norwood Care HomeHello David and thank you for your feedback. You are correct that during Covid our activities team have not always been in full attendance. This was due to Covid protocols surrounding isolation and shielding which were necessary to protect them, their colleagues and most importantly the residents. We apologise for this and please rest assured we are now back to full staffing. We had a lovely garden party last week organised by the activity team and lots more is planned! Thank you for your high scores for staff, cleanliness, safety, bedrooms, food/drink. We will pass on to the relevant departments. With regards to the medications, it is protocol to contact the next of kin and GP straight away if we suspect an error. On further investigation your dad's was a stock count error and in your mum's case a minor error that had no ill effects. However we apologies if this caused concern and we have put new electronic processes in place to reduce the likelihood of this happening again.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.738)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.738) out of 10 for Norwood Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 33 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 31 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.738 for Norwood Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (301 Excellents x 5) + (68 Goods x 4) + (15 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 385 Ratings = 4.738
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Norwood Care Home is based on 31 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 54 registered maximum number of service users is 10.8, which has been reached with 31 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
