First time visiting the care home and was impressed, and my friend who is in the home never looked better.
My Mum was transferred to Westerfield Care Home after a long stay in hospital where she was bedbound for two months. Within 30 minutes of arrival she was sitting on a chair eating her lunch. Within an hour she was helped to the toilet for the first time in 2 months. The next morning she had her first shower in two months, she feels safe and cared for and is improving at a remarkable rate, mentally and physically. Can't praise the wonderful staff enough, they bend over backwards for the residents and their families. If there was an option for a 10-star rating I would award it.
Some improvements are being made at present, which do require to be made. There appears to be a staffing issue, which they say is being addressed. Hopefully, this will be soon as it's not working the way it should at present. Laundry is a big problem as it getting clothes returned to the correct people! This care home could be very good with staff/management who really care.
Our mum was admitted to Westerfield Care Home in March 2021 after a long stay in hospital recovering from a stroke and Covid 19. The manager and staff went to great lengths to help our mum feel welcome and settle into her new surroundings. The home is very professionally run. The manager is always on hand to answer any questions we have if needed. My sister and I are very happy with the care provided for our mum and feel she is in a very safe and secure environment. Mum has Lewy Body Dementia and staff are very understanding of this and take time to communicate with her. The home is clean and mums clothes laundered at all times. Catering staff are great and menu well varied. We feel there is always a happy atmosphere in the home and staff always smiling.
Terrible experience with most of the staff. My mum waited nine and a half hours for an ambulance on New Year's Eve, eventually, they dialled a 999 ambulance, called us and told us to meet them at the hospital as Mum had deteriorated. Sadly, Mum passed away on 27th January. Many times, she never had a drink in the room or a water jug, she was extremely dehydrated, had a urine infection, which then lead to urosepsis. Glad my mum is at peace and not going back to that place.
We are sorry to hear of the distress caused and take this matter very seriously. Could I please ask that you email me at correspondence@handsale.co.uk so that the matter can be investigated thoroughly.
Mum moved into Westerfield at the end of May 2020. During the Covid pandemic, we have been unable to visit Mum inside the home but have outside. The difference in our Mum is unbelievable. She has dementia and stayed in sheltered housing with carers coming in 4 times a day and family there most of the day, in between being in and out of hospital. As a family, we cannot believe the difference in her. She is happy, safe and has even put weight on. The care she is getting is second to none and the relief for us, as a family, is amazing. We cannot praise the staff enough - they are so caring and helpful. Mum is very content and for us, as a family, we can’t express our gratitude enough to the carers.
Our mum was admitted here in December last year, the manager, and her staff are approachable, caring, and extremely professional. Mum has vascular dementia, and during this pandemic, staff have been working extremely hard ensuring communication continues with mum. Mum's clothes are perfectly laundered, the meal choices are great, her bedroom is spotless. The staff goes above and beyond and the most important thing is how much mum relates to them. Our family of five daughters can’t fault anything and it was a godsend mum was fortunate enough to be placed in this wonderful care home. Thank you to each and every one of you.
My mother has only been in the home for 5-6 weeks but so far our family are very happy with the care provided.
I have visited my partner on a regular basis since he was admitted to Westerfield Care Home. I find it has a very homely feeling about it. Spotlessly clean, happy residents, lots of activities that residents are active in. Meals are varied and of good portions depending on residents appetite. The staff have a good rapport with residents. Safety is good, coded door and unit entries.
Great place.
Westerfield Care Home is a very professionally run home. The staff and management are always caring and supportive to our parents. My brother and I are so appreciative of everything that is carried out for our mum and dad.
Staff also support the family.
My mother is very well looked after.
Picking a care home is not easy and I am very glad that we picked Westerfield.
Nothing seems to be too much trouble for them.
Property always very clean and tidy, all in good condition. Peaceful location and environment.
The manager is very helpful if needed. I would recommend this home to anyone.
To the staff who looked after our mum/grandmother.
We want to say a very big thank you to all of you for the care and love you have shown to our mother/grandmother since June 2017 and especially during her final days there to the 10th January 2017.All of you have been amazing in the way you looked after her. Nothing was ever too much for you to do. It was a lovely environment, more like a small hotel rather than a care home. You were always there for her in so many ways both seen and unseen.
I was able to spend four days toward the end at the bedside holding hands and talking and she was still very aware of her surroundings and people coming to visit. It was so moving and I can never thank you enough. Every detail was attended to in a quiet and unobtrusive way.We were able to stay overnight which was really appreciated.
Thank you so much from all of the family. We can never thank you enough.
I cannot praise Westerfield Care Home enough for the care they gave my mum during her stay here until she sadly passed away. The staff there are all fantastic and my mum loved her time here. She came out of her shell and joined in activities which is something she would never have done previously. After mum passed everyone was so caring and looked after myself and my daughter with such warmth. The care they also provided before Mum died was fantastic. She was so looked after and made so comfortable that she died peacefully. I am so glad I chose here for my mum and would recommend to anyone looking to put/reside a resident at Westerfield.
This is a well kept, clean and welcoming home. Staff from chef to manager are all extremely friendly. The care staff are always to hand to answer any queries and so helpful. Residents are happy and there always seems to be some sort of activity happening on my visits.
When my brother was first admitted to Westerfield Care Home, he was very angry and resentful due mostly to the nature of his condition, but it was not long that the staff were able to settle him in with lots of care and attention so much so he would refer to it as his home.
From the front line staff giving nursing care, office staff and manager - they are all excellent.
