Overall Experience

I am a volunteer from Singapore. Grateful to be a part of Ailsa Craig Care Home over the past few days. It has been a pleasant experience and journey thus far. Observed how the staff work here, very pleased with their care, service and attitudes. It is a very accommodating environment not just for the patients but also for the staff. The facilities were wonderful, it has everything that it needs. I have observed the use of many safety gadgets/equipment when the staff mobilise patients, which ensures thorough safety for the patients. The gardens are well maintained, environment and rooms are nice and modern. The patients are enjoying their rest time here and they look safe and calm.

So thank you, Ailsa Craig, for doing a good job! Keep it up! Would love to have an opportunity to visit again!

I was a volunteer in the Ailsa Craig Care Home and the staff here were amazing. They know the residents here like the back of their hands and treats them as a family member.

The facilities here are great with an indoor garden and there are many activities for the residents staying here as well.

The staff here are very accommodating and the well-personalised rooms for the residents made them feel like they are at home.

Overall, a great experience in Ailsa Craig!

I was a volunteer here and the staff were all pleasant and friendly. They are very accommodating and polite which enriched my volunteer time here. I have definitely enjoyed my time here at Ailsa Craig Care Home. A member of staff in particular was very approachable and I would like to take this opportunity to commend her professionalism in hosting me for my time here.

This is the families first real experience of a care home. However, the staff have been most welcoming and made us feel my mum is being well looked after.

Whilst the facilities are very good the staff are the homes main asset. Taking care of our mum and organising lots of activities gives us peace of mind that our mum is in good hands.

Since my friend has been in Ailsa Craig, I see an improvement in her overall wellbeing. I now know that she is safe and being well looked after. This has taken a lot of stress from myself as previous to my friend coming here, I was all she had, which was having a negative impact on me.

My mum was admitted to Ailsa Craig at the beginning of March due to the progression of her dementia.

I have nothing but praise from the management, nurses, care workers and assistants. My mum has settled in extremely well, much better than I thought she would, this has come about entirely from the staff. The care and affection shown to my wee mum is second to none. They also look out for her and the other resident's needs. I can't praise the staff highly enough. I can now sleep soundly at night knowing my mum is in safe hands and that she is in the best place. Keep up the good work! And thanks x

My father spent most of a year in and out of hospital and has been in care at Ailsa Craig for nearly 8 months. I am very happy with our choice of care home. The buildings are very light and bright, the rooms pleasant and the staff are excellent.

My father is 94, he is very frail and not always coherent but he is treated with respect and tenderness and humour. I couldn't ask for more.

The review is mainly for entertainment staff who will be very much missed he was great with all the residents including my mum organising lots of activities also music headsets and DVDs of residents. There is a lady who is a great addition to the entertainment team and my mum really enjoys the hymns that she does.

All the carers and cleaners are a credit to Ailsa Craig Care Home and hopefully, HC-One will be as good as Bupa or better.

Hands-on daily care from the staff is excellent and they are kind to me. I am happy to be back after a week in hospital.

I still don't like the closed in feeling in the sitting room and would you consider opening the space back up. I felt safer when I could see the staff in the sitting room.

Reply from Clare Sheehan, Care Advisor at Ailsa Craig Care Home

As part of the refurbishment and in consultation with Resident’s and relatives it was decided to divide the communal space with small partitions which are not full height to create a more homely atmosphere in the home. We strive to ensure that staff are available in lounges to assist Residents as required but on occasion, this may not always be possible as staff attend to Resident’s needs.

My mother joined the home in June 2017.
She suffers from bi-polar and dementia.
She still, however, has some independence.
The nursing and care staff have quickly adapted to her needs (physically, mentally, emotionally and personally).
The healthcare is excellent and I am informed on a regular basis regarding any health problems, personal issues and medication changes.

I am overall very happy with all aspects of the home and my mother is settled and trusts the staff and she gets good attention from them and they care very much for her.

The staff here were brilliant with my mum. They attended to all of her needs and kept her in high spirits with their friendly approach. The variety of different facilities within the home was fantastic, keeping my mum amused and busy.

The assistance provided helped maintain my mum in her day to day routine and made her feel extremely comfortable in her surroundings.

Overall Experience

Like anyone placing a loved one in a care home, I had concerns over how she would be treated, how she would settle and whether the staff would provide appropriate care. I have found the staff to be excellent, always treating my grandmother with sensitivity and dignity. I'm glad to say she has settled so much better than I thought she would. Enjoying the company and the activities provided. Since being in the home, I think in general she has improved. She's gained weight, she's made friends and she even went to the bingo for the first time in years! The home has given her a quality of life that she wouldn't otherwise have had. I would recommend this home. Thanks Ailsa Craig and all the staff, keep up the good work!
