Darnley Court Care Home, part of HC-One, offers expert nursing and specialist dementia care in Glasgow within a calm, homely environment. Every resident is supported as an individual, with care shaped around who they are - not just their condition.

The home is proud to host the Specialist Dementia Care Community (SDCC), one of Scotland’s leading environments for people living with dementia. Developed alongside Professor Graeme Stokes, this unique community fills a real gap in specialist dementia support, providing personalised, therapeutic care in a safe, comfortable setting.

At Darnley Court, time is taken to understand the person behind the diagnosis - their story, routines, preferences, and what matters most to them. Using tools like the Behavioural Assessment Tool (BAT), the team identifies triggers and designs meaningful care plans to enhance each resident’s wellbeing.

Residents benefit from a full team approach, including Dementia Care Managers, Assistant Psychologists, and highly trained colleagues who share a genuine passion for helping others live fulfilling lives.

As part of a larger care community, Darnley Court offers seamless step-down pathways, allowing residents to move into a more standard care setting as their needs change, all within the same home.

Families choose Darnley Court for its person-centred ethos, skilled team, and welcoming atmosphere - a place where everyone is treated with dignity, respect, and kindness.

Literally appalling. As my Gran was shouting "help" I was told, "you need to leave, you aren't a close relative".
My Gran is very ill and has dementia. Literally expecting her to pass soon. I asked for someone to take her to the toilet (my Gran was asking for this) and the employee was more interested
in getting me out of the premises. On leaving she told me I had to phone 24 hours in advance next time! One - she should have told me that when I phoned this morning - and considering it is unlikely my Gran will survive 24 hours I think she should at least consider some common sense. I have now also discovered that no one took my Gran to the toilet. My Brother who went in after me, had to go and ask for help. Only for him to have got into trouble for leaving the room. Also - they left my Gran a cup of tea and a biscuit. My Gran is so weak she can only take a tenth of a teaspoon of liquid at a time. What on earth are these people thinking?

The family is very grateful for the care and attention given to my brother. He seems to be accepting of the routine in Darnley Court Care Home. The food he seems to be happy with that too, although I don't think he joins in activities because he isn't a very sociable man. In all, we know that he is
safe and being cared for where I couldn't do so at home.

Overall, we are very happy with the care that my mother receives in Darnley Court. Staff are very attentive and respectful. The only thing I would say is that now and again my mother says that some staff can be a bit cheeky with her. Other than that, we are very happy.
Reply from Julie Caygill, Hospital Liaison Team Administrator at Darnley Court Care HomeThank you for your feedback; it is really good to hear that you are very happy with your mother's care, but I am disappointed to hear the feedback from your mother and would like the opportunity to explore this further with you and your mother at a convenient time for you both.

I would recommend, if anyone who wanted to keep their relatives safe and well and to be looked after, to think about Darnley Court Care Home. Our father is our Dad again; he is happy to be around his friends, and the staff are so accommodating. We can leave Dad in safe hands, and we know if our Dad
wasn't happy, he would let us know. He always says, "I have everything".

Mum has recently moved to Darnley Court. The staff and management teams have gone above and beyond to show the highest level of caring support to mum and also to us as her family. It has been an emotional journey as mum settles in during the Covid pandemic, however, we know mum is in expert hands and
the primary focus in the Beaton unit is the welfare and care of their residents. I would fully recommend Darnley Court to anyone considering a care home for their family member.

I am as happy as I can be that my Dad has settled in Darnley Court Care Home. We had used other care homes in the area for respite reasons but they were not suitable and not a patch on Darnley. I always find the staff friendly and Dad is very comfortable with them.

I have always found the care home to be of a high standard. Staff on Seaton are excellent, as are all staff I encounter in the home. My mother has been here over 2 yrs and is getting the best of care. Very well managed home. Doing an incredible job at this very difficult time.

The overall care my wife is receiving, I'm very happy with. The staff and management are doing a wonderful job, the only criticism I have is the seats and furniture are past their best.
Reply from Julie Caygill, Hospital Liaison Team Administrator at Darnley Court Care HomeThank you for your feedback and please be assured that we have an ongoing refurbishment programme at Darnley Court but due to the current pandemic this has been limited. We are currently using the ‘Sunshine’ project to develop our living spaces and several bedrooms including your relatives has been part of this process. As restrictions ease we will continue to take steps in developing our environment for the benefit of all residents.
Thank you for your kind feedback on our care and treatment of your wife.

Due to the Coronavirus, it has been understandably impossible to visit my aunt but the generosity of staff allowing residents to use their own personal iPads to allow me to chat with my aunt face to face has been remarkable but not unsurprising.
I have chatted with activity staff and they seem to be
managing quite a few of these regularly.
I always felt during my visits that the staff all work very hard and always seem to be busy, but never too busy to keep the residents happy.
A big thumbs up from me.

I have been looked after very well for the time I have been here in the care home. Nurses are hard workers and food is good. My wounds and bandages were changed at the correct times and days, deep baths were available when needed and a special mattress for my back was supplied. Security was also good
through the night and morning.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.631)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.631) out of 10 for Darnley Court Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 28 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 26 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.631 for Darnley Court Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (264 Excellents x 5) + (45 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) + (8 Poors x 2) + (11 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 333 Ratings = 4.631
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Darnley Court Care Home is based on 26 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 110 registered maximum number of service users is 22, which has been reached with 26 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
