Puddingstone Grange care home is registered to offer residential care for male and female service users, who are elderly and frail, have a dementia related condition and nursing care needs.

A mental health unit was been opened within the home in August 2015 to provide care and support for those living with mental health conditions.

A community district nurse service is available for the residential units.

Community psychiatric support is provided when necessary, through a resident's general practitioner services.

The mental health unit receives support from Oxleas Health Service, 24 hours a day in addition to regular reviews of those residents from the community psychiatric team.

At the heart of Avante Care and Support's work is a philosophy of care where staff encourage social interaction, engagement and the eradication of loneliness and boredom.

Puddingstone Grange ensures its care and support helps to develop interests and hobbies within the care home and provide many opportunities to meet and make new friends.

The design promotes the use of the external space and this will be achieved by having safe, level access to the garden area at the rear, which has a meandering pathway, raised planters, seating areas and water feature.

My mother was welcomed to the nursing unit in a very efficient manner, with care for her wellbeing and acquainting themselves with her needs.
A very good or rather excellent start to the residency.
Haven't had the opportunity to assess everything as yet.

My mother-in-law spent the last year of her life in this wonderful home. The staff were lovely, the accommodation was spotless, and we couldn’t have asked for a better place for her to spend her final year. They took all the worry off our shoulders and we knew she was safe. She laughed, she was happy,
and she was safe.

As a regular visitor weekly for the past 5/6 years Christmas at Puddingstone Grange is fantastic. The staff go out of their way to make this time of year a wonderful celebration for everyone. The staff work so hard and include many of the residents to help out. Beautiful and inclusive. Long dining tables
with crackers etc. Christmas trees and decorations everywhere. Also, the local church singers come each year. The weeks of Christmas are superb at Puddingstone Grange.

Mum moved into Puddingstone in April, and we were thrilled to be able to get in her there. Mum was in a fragile state mentally, and the manager went above and beyond to get Mum in there at short notice. We were beyond grateful to her.
From the moment Mum arrived, her mental health improved immediately,
she is settled, happy and most importantly happy. Every single member of staff we have met are kind, energetic and caring.
We really couldn’t ask for anymore, and Mum had said she never feels lonely and it’s like home from home! The best comment you could ask for!
The home is clean and relatives are made to feel welcome and kept in the picture with everything regarding their loved ones.
I am happy leaving Mum after a visit knowing she is safe, happy and being cared for!
Thanks again to the manager and her staff for doing a great job.

Staff are friendly, care seems to be good but would love it if a way could be found to shower or properly bath my partner.
Home is clean and rooms are large and bright.
Staff interaction is good.
Wish her hair was washed more than once per week.
An in-house chiropodist would be a serious bonus.

Good care is taken of Mother. Kept informed of any issues. Always welcomed when visiting. My mother seems very happy with the care and is much safer and looked after at Puddingstone Grange compared to living at home with care visits.

My brothers and sister had the unenviable task of picking a home for our mum. After three weeks as a resident, I visited her for the first time - Puddingstone Grange is a beautiful purpose-built home overlooking the common. During my first week of visiting, I witnessed some of their daily routines.
The staff were extremely kind to everyone, and I observed good practices for all the residents, visitors and likewise amongst the staff. Mumj looked well cared for, was happy and had settled in very well. From the managers to the domestics, they were all happy to answer any questions. Everyone was keen to learn more about mUm and our family to help them to make Mum feel at home.
Fantastic start to our journey.
Please note I have not commented on the value for money as my siblings deal with this element of our Mum's care.

For the past number of years, I have visited Puddingstone Grange and each time I am impressed by the attention to detail of this care home. From the many activities such as outings to interesting places, involvement with seasonal celebrations, keep-fit regimes and a lot more to keep the residents active
and sociable. As for the staff, they have always gone the extra mile in making our visits memorable along with regular meetings both for residents and their families plus a monthly newsletter. I would rank Puddingstone Grange care home amongst the very top of the list when choosing a home from home for your loved one.

My mum really didn't want to go into a care home. And we did everything to keep her in her own home for as long as possible. But when she could no longer walk - or even stand - we were faced with the prospect of her being bedridden. She had amazing carers - but it became obvious that her quality of
life would be better with full-time support. We completely lucked out that Puddingstone had a room. The staff did everything they could to help her fit in - and she loves it. The food is amazing, and she really enjoys living in such a positive warm atmosphere. I can't wait for spring to come so she can go into the lovely garden.

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.492)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.492) out of 10 for Puddingstone Grange is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 18 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 17 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.567 for Puddingstone Grange is calculated as follows: ( (157 Excellents x 5) + (32 Goods x 4) + (11 Satisfactorys x 3) + (3 Poors x 2) + (7 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 210 Ratings = 4.567
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.925 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Puddingstone Grange is based on 17 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.925
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 62 registered maximum number of service users is 12.4, which has been reached with 17 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
