Puddingstone Grange care home is registered to offer residential care for male and female service users, who are elderly and frail, have a dementia related condition and nursing care needs.

A mental health unit was been opened within the home in August 2015 to provide care and support for those living with mental health conditions.

A community district nurse service is available for the residential units.

Community psychiatric support is provided when necessary, through a resident's general practitioner services.

The mental health unit receives support from Oxleas Health Service, 24 hours a day in addition to regular reviews of those residents from the community psychiatric team.

At the heart of Avante Care and Support's work is a philosophy of care where staff encourage social interaction, engagement and the eradication of loneliness and boredom.

Puddingstone Grange ensures its care and support helps to develop interests and hobbies within the care home and provide many opportunities to meet and make new friends.

The design promotes the use of the external space and this will be achieved by having safe, level access to the garden area at the rear, which has a meandering pathway, raised planters, seating areas and water feature.

Staff are friendly, care seems to be good but would love it if a way could be found to shower or properly bath my partner.
Home is clean and rooms are large and bright.
Staff interaction is good.
Wish her hair was washed more than once per week.
An in-house chiropodist would be a serious bonus.

Good care is taken of Mother. Kept informed of any issues. Always welcomed when visiting. My mother seems very happy with the care and is much safer and looked after at Puddingstone Grange compared to living at home with care visits.

My brothers and sister had the unenviable task of picking a home for our mum. After three weeks as a resident, I visited her for the first time - Puddingstone Grange is a beautiful purpose-built home overlooking the common. During my first week of visiting, I witnessed some of their daily routines.
The staff were extremely kind to everyone, and I observed good practices for all the residents, visitors and likewise amongst the staff. Mumj looked well cared for, was happy and had settled in very well. From the managers to the domestics, they were all happy to answer any questions. Everyone was keen to learn more about mUm and our family to help them to make Mum feel at home.
Fantastic start to our journey.
Please note I have not commented on the value for money as my siblings deal with this element of our Mum's care.

For the past number of years, I have visited Puddingstone Grange and each time I am impressed by the attention to detail of this care home. From the many activities such as outings to interesting places, involvement with seasonal celebrations, keep-fit regimes and a lot more to keep the residents active
and sociable. As for the staff, they have always gone the extra mile in making our visits memorable along with regular meetings both for residents and their families plus a monthly newsletter. I would rank Puddingstone Grange care home amongst the very top of the list when choosing a home from home for your loved one.

My mum really didn't want to go into a care home. And we did everything to keep her in her own home for as long as possible. But when she could no longer walk - or even stand - we were faced with the prospect of her being bedridden. She had amazing carers - but it became obvious that her quality of
life would be better with full-time support. We completely lucked out that Puddingstone had a room. The staff did everything they could to help her fit in - and she loves it. The food is amazing, and she really enjoys living in such a positive warm atmosphere. I can't wait for spring to come so she can go into the lovely garden.

Wonderful nurturing, caring environment. Staff are always upbeat and friendly and always find time to chat. Large outdoor area for residents to get fresh air and sit in the garden and my uncle is very, very happy there.

My Dad resided at this care home for under a year where there were many concerns/complaints raised with Social Services, the home Manager, the Director of Care Operations, and the Managing Director. The Eden alternative they claim is at the centre of all they do, was a factor in choosing this home.
We found this to be untrue as staff were abrupt/rude including kissing teeth. Dad was regularly left alone with the door closed for long periods, ate meals laying in bed, and wasn't encouraged to socially interact. He was rarely helped to wash/change clothes, never taken out and they never arranged a dentist/optician or chiropodist visit. After a serious incident, an internal investigation was completed and found staff acted inappropriately and breached Avante policies. They were dismissed on grounds of gross misconduct and referred to the DBS. The concerns were such that Social Services reported this to the police, who alongside the coroners, are currently investigating my Dad's death. We are heartbroken.

My father sustained a head injury, during a fall in his room. Staff attended and they stated they treated my father’s injury. My father’s health declined and unfortunately, he passed away a few weeks later. I am aware that the Avante management team may disagree with the alleged standard of care that
my father received. However, an internal investigation commissioned after my father’s death by Avante revealed that 2 members of staff did not act appropriately and consequently breached Avante policies.
The conclusion of these disciplinary proceedings was that both staff were dismissed for gross misconduct. Given this outcome, I find it worryingly disappointing that, Avante would ‘disagree’ with the comments made about the standard of care my father received at this facility. My father’s experiences should have been consistent with Avante own guidelines. While Avante states on its logo ‘Everyone matters’ it’s clear that my father, regrettably did not.

Our grandfather died after a fall here in Feb 2022. He rightly relied upon the carers to help him as he had dementia, so didn’t have the capacity to care for himself or fully make decisions about his own needs. His walking aid was placed out of reach, there wasn’t a sensor mat although he didn’t have
the capacity to use any alarms. He was known to be at risk of falls. This was not an unwitnessed fall, as we had overt cameras in his room. Medical attention was not sought for hours despite him being found on the floor by carers in the early hours with a bleeding head wound (that was later stitched). He was just manually lifted into bed, wound undressed and was left alone to sleep. The impact to his head caused a brain haemorrhage, which was recorded as his cause of death by the coroner. Don’t take any chances. Especially if your relative doesn’t have the capacity to help themselves/contact you should anything happen to them. I do not recommend that you place your loved ones in this “care home”.

You can not give a good experience at the moment as I don't mix with anybody I don't go in the care home I stay in the garden. I don't have problems with the care home, they have looked after my mum with great care, the staff are amazing! I will always say a big thank you to Puddingstone Grange sincerely.

My nan came to your care home in December 2020 after being in hospital. We were worried how she would not settle due to having Alzheimer's and Dementia and leaving what she knew before but your carers there have looked after my nan so well and today I went to see her she looked so well and so happy
the best I've seen her in a long time. The team at Puddingstone Grange are amazing and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for looking after and keeping her safe.

Moji has over 20 years experience working in care, she joined Avante as a Registered Home Manager in September 2020, having previously held roles as an Area Co-ordinator and Regional Support Manager. Moji has a BSc in Sociology and MSc in Criminology and Criminal Psychology


Moji's proudest achievement since joining Avante has been supporting residents, their family members and staff through the recent pandemic and the associated challenges, keeping the home safe and maintaining staffing levels. Moji feels it is particularly important to support the relatives and friends of residents in order to enhance the wellbeing of all parties.
