Puddingstone Grange

Puddingstone Grange looked after my mother with great care. The staff were always consciensous and cheerful, diligent and thoughtful. One, in particular, gave great care to my mother and our family.

This is a generally very happy home. The staff are wonderful and are so eager to please all the residents. it must be a very demanding job but they all seem to cope admirably!

The conclusion of these disciplinary proceedings was that both staff were dismissed for gross misconduct. Given this outcome, I find it worryingly disappointing that, Avante would ‘disagree’ with the comments made about the standard of care my father received at this facility. My father’s experiences should have been consistent with Avante own guidelines. While Avante states on its logo ‘Everyone matters’ it’s clear that my father, regrettably did not.

My Dad resided at this care home for under a year where there were many concerns/complaints raised with Social Services, the home Manager, the Director of Care Operations, and the Managing Director. The Eden alternative they claim is at the centre of all they do, was a factor in choosing this home. We found this to be untrue as staff were abrupt/rude including kissing teeth. Dad was regularly left alone with the door closed for long periods, ate meals laying in bed, and wasn't encouraged to socially interact. He was rarely helped to wash/change clothes, never taken out and they never arranged a dentist/optician or chiropodist visit. After a serious incident, an internal investigation was completed and found staff acted inappropriately and breached Avante policies. They were dismissed on grounds of gross misconduct and referred to the DBS. The concerns were such that Social Services reported this to the police, who alongside the coroners, are currently investigating my Dad's death. We are heartbroken.

Our grandfather died after a fall here in Feb 2022. He rightly relied upon the carers to help him as he had dementia, so didn’t have the capacity to care for himself or fully make decisions about his own needs. His walking aid was placed out of reach, there wasn’t a sensor mat although he didn’t have the capacity to use any alarms. He was known to be at risk of falls. This was not an unwitnessed fall, as we had overt cameras in his room. Medical attention was not sought for hours despite him being found on the floor by carers in the early hours with a bleeding head wound (that was later stitched). He was just manually lifted into bed, wound undressed and was left alone to sleep. The impact to his head caused a brain haemorrhage, which was recorded as his cause of death by the coroner. Don’t take any chances. Especially if your relative doesn’t have the capacity to help themselves/contact you should anything happen to them. I do not recommend that you place your loved ones in this “care home”.

You can not give a good experience at the moment as I don't mix with anybody I don't go in the care home I stay in the garden. I don't have problems with the care home, they have looked after my mum with great care, the staff are amazing! I will always say a big thank you to Puddingstone Grange sincerely.

My father passed away in the home and the care and support he was given has been so lovely. His care was first rate during his time at the home. Staff were warm, friendly and caring.

My nan came to your care home in December 2020 after being in hospital. We were worried how she would not settle due to having Alzheimer's and Dementia and leaving what she knew before but your carers there have looked after my nan so well and today I went to see her she looked so well and so happy the best I've seen her in a long time. The team at Puddingstone Grange are amazing and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for looking after and keeping her safe.

All the staff were very friendly and welcoming. They made mum feel very comfortable from the start.

Perfect place for my Mum. Friendly, approachable staff. Very professional and knowledgeable. They understand Mum's various needs and do their utmost to make her happy. More importantly, we know that she is safe and secure in a loving environment where she is friends with both residents and staff.

I am very happy with the care my mother is given. All the cares are very professional in what they do. I am always kept informed of any updates. All in all very happy with the service.

Due to the COVID19 virus I have been unable to see my mother therefore the review would be inaccurate. However, prior to February/March 2020, my assessment is shown in the ratings.

My aunt has lived at Puddingstone Grange for over 18 months. She is very happy and well cared for. I'm impressed by how they have dealt with Covid. I can visit once a week in the garden and am even offered a cup of tea. I have no worries about my aunt's care.

Made to feel comfortable and quite relaxed. Will answer your questions. Very cheerful. I always look forward to my visits.

Clean and friendly environment.

Each time I visit my sister I find the staff helpful and friendly. Security is very good, What I have seen of the food, it looks very good. I know my sister is very happy at Puddingstone Grange. Congratulations to staff and management.

My review of the situation of the care home. Staff and mostly the carers are very good. Food is good, even some of the residents are very sociable when I come to see my brother. There is nothing I can say to decry the care home.

Care home provides excellent service with a great carer to resident ratio. Home-cooked food to a high standard.

The camaraderie between and among staff at all levels makes light work of very difficult tasks. Each deserves to be paid more for their long hours and demanding work.

Reception is very happy and helpful also. I have only met the new manager a few times, seems very happy. Also the deputy manager is so nice and helpful. The rooms could do with some fresh paint though.
