My mum came into Bourley Grange for respite following a hospital admission and a couple of falls. She needed to regain her confidence in getting in and out of bed. The team looking after Mum have been caring and supportive in every way. The clinical team have provided feedback on her progress when requested.
Mum can now get in and out of bed. The staff have encouraged Mum to join in social activities and I have always been made welcome. I would be happy if Mum ever wanted to make her home there.

It’s never going to be easy making the tough decision to place your parent in a care home. My mother lives with Alzheimer’s and after viewing many residential homes, my mind was made up instantly upon walking through the doors to Bourley Grange Care Home. The light and airy environment together with
its modest scale, comfortable communal areas, en-suite bedrooms and wonderful garden just made it feel so right for Mum. Mum has been a resident for nearly a year now and I cannot fault the love and care displayed by the staff, the support for family members and the genuine feeling of being part of one big family. There are daily activities and minibus trips suitable for the residents' needs. Parties for friends and family and external entertainment are regularly provided. The food is very good too! I feel incredibly reassured that Mum has settled at Bourley and responds so well with the positive, upbeat team of staff. I would certainly recommend Bourley and so pleased that Mum and our family are part of it too.

I had lunch with my relative, and it was lovely. It was hot, and the breast was homemade. The staff were so attentive and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. Bourley Grange is a super place, clean, airy and light. A lovely place to live. I know my relative is well cared for and hopefully content.

I cannot thank the team at Bourley Grange enough for the incredible love and care they have given to my dad and to me and my family during his time with them.
I cannot express enough in words how amazing and wonderful I have found each and every member of staff at Bourley Grange, they really are an
incredible team. I will miss seeing them all so much and I am ever so grateful that I found Bourley Grange and that my dad spent his last few months there.
A special thanks to one member of staff in particular, for the warm and friendly welcome we first received on enquiring and visiting the home and to another staff member, there just isn’t a word that I can use that would credit her enough, she has been absolutely amazing, an incredible person.
I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Bourley Grange in a heartbeat, it is more than just a care home, it is a home and felt so much a home to me and my family, a truly wonderful place.

My Mum initially went to Bourley Grange in June 2022 for 4 weeks of respite care to cover family holidays. She settled in very quickly. All the staff are so friendly and caring. The whole care home is very clean and welcoming. The food is of a high standard. The gardens are very well kept. Lots of outings
to go on, and all sorts of things going on to entertain the residents. All in all, we can't find any faults. Mum's respite care came to an end, and she is feeling so much at home she has decided to stay!

My wife spent two weeks respite care with you and was very happy with the care received. She found the staff friendly, helpful and attentive. She thoroughly enjoyed the attention and was very well cared for at all times, the outing were a special delight for her. On her return home, she took great delight
in telling us how much she had enjoyed her stay and would have no qualms about any future return stay.

My mother spent some two months at Bourley Grange for a respite stay. Her nursing care was excellent - very attentive and supportive. The staff were always cheerful and very helpful to both visitors and guest patients alike. The ensuite accommodation was of a high standard, providing welcome privacy,
whilst the communal areas, dining areas and gardens, also of a very high standard, gave ample scope for social interaction. I would highly recommend Bourley Grange to anyone requiring a respite stay or for that matter a nursing home for the long term.

During the last month of my mother's life, she was made as comfortable as possible within her surroundings.
The staff demonstrated care and compassion whilst maintaining my mother's wishes and dignity.
The appropriate agencies were consulted as and when required. Any advice was actioned, including
the changes to medication, diet and general care procedures. I, as next of kin, was able to visit at any time of the day and night. The staff readily liaised with me and kept me informed of any changes of condition, advice from other professionals and her daily food consumption. The staff demonstrated their compassion for my mother and myself when the end of life came. They all, including the management team, paid their respects in a dignified and caring manner, for which I and my family were deeply touched and will be forever grateful to them all.

At the beginning of 2020 I knew the time had come to find a caring and loving residential residence for my Dad. Having visited a few local homes I chose, what was then, Gracewell of Church Crookham and have not looked back since then. This was the start of the pandemic and it was lockdown everywhere.
This meant I was unable to visit Dad which was very hard for both of us, especially Dad as I had seen him regularly. I was helped with this by one very caring member of the team who pushed to get me enhanced visit status. In June of this year my Dad turned 100 years of age, a truly great milestone. What is now Bourley Grange pulled out all the stops for his celebrations and made it something we will never forget. It gives me great peace of mind leaving my Dad somewhere that I know he is safe and cared for which means the world to me! Thank you.

Since moving to Bourley Grange in October 2021. Mom’s general health has improved immeasurably and she has put on nearly a stone in weight! The pressure ulcer that seemed impossible to cure was gone within 6 weeks! It had only been getting worse previously. I honestly believed it would never repair.
This I put down to the care, thought, monitoring and excellent diet from which she’s benefitted at Bourley Grange. When residents can’t eat their meals and several cannot, the staff don’t just ‘deliver meals to them in bed’ and then ‘collect the untouched plates an hour later’, as had been Mom’s prior experience. They sit with the resident, demonstrating incredible patience and both encourage and help them to eat as much as possible.
Every team member: leadership, reception, admin, activities, catering, cleaning and the most wonderful carers, truly demonstrates care, tolerance and love towards all residents. This doesn’t happen everywhere. I recommend Bourley Grange without reservation.

My father-in-law moved into Gracewell a week ago. It wasn’t something he was looking forward to, he’d have rather stayed at home. However, from the moment of initial enquiry we have found the staff at Gracewell to be genuinely caring, friendly, positive and accommodating. It seems they have done as
much as they possibly could to make the transition a smooth and happy one. And it’s worked! I know we’re only a week into it, but my father-in-law is delighted with how it’s all gone, he says the food is delicious, the carers are all wonderful, he enjoys looking out of his window, chats to the gardener (and the gardeners dog!)... and all this positivity is just in the first week whilst he’s in Covid isolation. Next week, there’s even more to experience as he meets the other residents and joins in the activities with them. Thank you to all the staff that have made what we thought would be a difficult transition into an enjoyable one.
Reply from Racquel Merdegia, General Manager at Bourley GrangeGracewell of Church Crookham appreciates moving into a care home can be an unsettling time. This is why we take the time to engage with family members and friends of the resident to make the process as smooth as possible, to get to know the resident on a personal level. We are pleased your father-in-law has settled in well.

A very homely environment for residents with a modern approach to care. Smaller households mimic a family setting where residents can lead their own life and are encouraged to do so. There is a residents committee so they have a voice in suggesting what they would like to see or do. There are activities
throughout the day which are inclusive and engaging. In my view, this should be the model for all care homes. Although Covid has brought many challenges for all, the team has always kept me informed of mum's progress through daily reports including what activities she has been involved in. Investing in Technology at an early stage of the first lockdown to enable zoom, skype, facetime meetings so at least families can directly communicate with their loved ones while visiting is on hold. All staff are genuine, dedicated, friendly and feel more like an extended family for which I cannot praise them enough. Any issues raised are promptly and professionally resolved, however minor.
Reply from Racquel Merdegia, General Manager at Bourley GrangeHere at Gracewell of Church Crookham, we have worked hard to ensure all of the residents receive the highest quality of care and security within our home. Thank you for your kind words, these will be shared with the team and we look forward to welcoming you back to our home soon.

The thing about Gracewell of Church Crookham is that the staff care levels are of a very high standard. The rooms are lovely and the staff lovelier. No request seems too much and there is very careful attention to detail in resident welfare. They go the extra mile and there are lots of little touches
which make such a difference to the resident’s state of mind. The management holds regular relative and resident meetings to discuss current issues and concerns. Management are also very approachable and incredibly helpful as displayed recently during a family bereavement. All the staff deserves credit for their efforts and genuine level of care. Special mention to the activities team for their innovative ideas on keeping the staff entertained and looking after both the physical and mental welfare of the residents. Given the pandemic, it has been very pleasing to see the protection afforded to the residents and the construction of the visitor pod to allow visits when not locked down.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.808)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.808) out of 10 for Bourley Grange is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 19 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.833 for Bourley Grange is calculated as follows: ( (194 Excellents x 5) + (28 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 227 Ratings = 4.833
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.975 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Bourley Grange is based on 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.975
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 60 registered maximum number of service users is 12, which has been reached with 19 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: General Manager

I’m a trained nurse and have a passion for delivering high-quality dementia care and end of life care. I’ve been a care home General Manager for over five years and can’t imagine doing anything else, I love what I do. Care UK puts residents at the heart of everything – something that echoes my values and care ethos.

We’re a closely-knit team at Bourley Grange; residents and colleagues are like one big family. I enjoy guiding the team to do their best work, modelling great care and even providing hands-on care whenever the team needs some extra support.

In my free time, I enjoy travelling and getting out into nature. I also do some voluntary work, and I get a huge buzz out of raising money for good causes like the Alzheimer’s Society. I even did a skydive to fundraise for them!
