We are very happy with the care my mother receives at Scarlet House. We have always been warmly welcomed and kept up to date with my mothers care by all the staff. My mum is always very happy and cheerful, which means a lot to us, and we never feel concerned about her welfare.

My mother was a resident of Scarlet House before her death in June 2020. My family and I will be eternally grateful she was so fortunate to have had the opportunity to spend that precious time in the care of such wonderful, kind, professional staff and volunteers in this lovely home. This March, I was contacted by the home who made me aware of a planned Remembrance Ceremony on the 23rd March 2021 to honour the memory of residents who had been lost since the first Lockdown. My daughter and I attended (everything meticulously planned regarding Covid restrictions) and were deeply moved by such a caring and thoughtful act. Yet again, the care and respect shown by the staff of Scarlet House was very much in evidence and reinforced my own and my families appreciation of all they had done for my mother and ourselves and continue to do for their residents and their families. Thank you all.

Dad went to Scarlet House for two weeks of respite care. All the staff have been very caring and put our minds at ease throughout the two weeks. We would have no hesitation in arranging care for Dad at Scarlet House in the future.

My uncle has been a resident of the home for a while now, and he always praises the staff for the time they spend with him. He has suffered from bouts of loneliness in the past after my aunts passing, but since making his new home at Scarlet House, his spirits have lifted considerably.

My own experiences with the staff have been very positive; they can't do enough to make him comfortable and cater to his needs. Covid has provided its challenges, and we have been unable to visit recently but have been able to keep in touch via the phone as have all the family. I look forward to when we can travel and visit again.

Mum needed to move into Scarlet House for respite care after the hospitalisation of her husband. Mum has dementia and cannot be safely left on her own. Sadly, her husband caught Covid and died in hospital just before Christmas. Scarlet House has been amazing throughout this journey with us. The Customer Relations Manager has been a fantastic support, getting Mum Covid tested the same day as I made the initial call, to helping me with paperwork and making Mum feel so welcome. The lifestyle lead has been so important as we had to break the news to Mum that her husband had died through the visiting pod as we went into tier four lockdown. He has kept in touch, told me how Mum is coping and arranged to stream the funeral too as she is unable to attend. The care by the team is great and she adores everyone. We are so pleased to have chosen Scarlet House for Mum. Thank you All.

Mum has lived at Scarlet House for almost 4 years, and my brothers and I chose this care home for its lovely en-suite rooms and bright and airy surroundings. Mum is 97 years old and has dementia. Whilst things have not been perfect over the years, our issues have been listened to and acted upon. Mum is cared for and treated with dignity and respect. Since lockdown, Mum no longer recognises us, but the kindness and love she receives from the care staff is exceptional. She is calm and happy which gives us peace of mind. We cannot thank the staff enough for their extra care during this pandemic.

I have been very pleased with the standard of care that Mother has received. Recently she has had some health problems and staff contacted her GP quickly and got her the relevant treatment. She was well supported during her recovery. When staff speak to us about her they show genuine concern and love towards her. My mother is, by nature, a rather retiring person, but staff have gone to great lengths to encourage her to join in activities.

The staff at Scarlett House have found themselves in a unique position since March 2020. The extreme nature of the Covid lockdown and the absolute need to protect vulnerable residents has meant that in the absence of family visits they themselves have become 'family'. I have been both moved and impressed by their ability and willingness to adapt and assume this incredibly difficult role in unprecedented circumstances. They have delivered - and continue to deliver - quite amazing care with their unending good humour, extra kindness and understanding. I particularly want to thank nine of the staff members, and the lovely chef who made my mum her very own batch of Rocky Road! Thank you all so very very much.

My mum has been a resident at Scarlet House for a number of years. This year, for obvious reasons, has been the most challenging. I have nothing but the highest regard for the standards of care and safety my mum has received. It hasn't been perfect BUT it has been consistently excellent and that is down to the processes and procedures that have been put in place and the attitude and care of the staff that executes it. I'd rather my mum wasn't in a Care Home but I'm glad that she is at Scarlet House.

During this Covid-19 crisis, the staff have gone out of their way to enable us to have contact with Dad. These weekly zoom meetings have provided contact and have kept all our spirits up. We know that Dad is good hands and send thanks to all the team for everything they are all doing in difficult circumstances.

My wife who suffers from dementia has been a resident of Scarlet House for well over 3-years, and she has been extremely well cared for and made to feel totally at home. Despite her illness and physical handicaps, she is welcomed in all activities. Her medical needs are given the attention they require, but just as importantly, her personal mental scenario has been understood and catered for.

My uncle wasn’t at Scarlet House for too long before he passed away but the care and love he received from all the staff was really appreciated as we couldn’t visit him because of covid-19.

Knowing his last few months at Scarlet House were happy made it easier for us as a family being separated from him.

When you are in the position of having a loved one in a residential home in the middle of a pandemic, you have to rescind all your personal care of that person to the staff and management. Scarlet House staff have given us a sense of reassurance by always making sure we can communicate with our mum, keeping us informed and just being there for all their residents. This is an unbelievably difficult time for them too. They have often been working longer hours, having less people available, but we have still seen nothing but a caring attitude and determination to do the best by the residents. The updates from the Care UK CEO have also been helpful.

The lovely Customer Relations Manager at Scarlett House, Stroud; well, this is one hell of a lady you have on your team at Scarlett House.
My late mum was there for a short period 27/2/20 - 21/3/20. As Mum had been in hospital since the new year, Scarlett House was highly recommended by friends of mine who’s loved ones spent their final time on this earth there. I knew Mum was looking at end of life care and Scarlett House did exactly that and more, not only for Mum but myself and family too.
The Customer Relations Manager fought with everything she had to get my mum moved in ASAP and carried on even after Mum took up residency.
Every single one of the team who looked after Mum needs to pat themselves on the back as they did a great job looking after my mum and every other resident there. My mum loved the banter and sarcasm with the lovely male carer, as she got as good as she gave, and even another carer who brought a tear to my eyes was singing with her. They all do a tremendous job, one which I couldn’t do as it’s not easy when some are difficult and rude to them, even though they don’t realise they are, my Mum was one of them. Dementia is a very cruel disease and Mum's escalated within weeks of being diagnosed but I’m thankful that she still knew who we were right up to near the end. And very thankful she was in Scarlett house.

So the Customer Relations Manager really needs an award if you do them as she is truly one in a million and I will be eternally grateful to her.

Everyone we came into contact with at the home was so helpful and friendly and made what could be a traumatic dreaded experience so smooth. When in a situation when you have to put a parent into care the ‘can do’ attitude of everyone at Scarlet House was so reassuring.
Although my father spent a relatively short time in the home before passing, as a family we felt we could breathe as we knew he was in the best place.

Towards the end, the staff were so amenable with all the restrictions of COVID-19 ensuring the family had contact and he knew people cared and he was not alone. This has given us solace and we will be eternally grateful.

Mum has a lovely, well-appointed room. Everyone connected to her care is cheerful and efficient. Carers are always willing to discuss how Mum is getting on. She has always had good things to say about the food. I would recommend Scarlet House to anyone looking for a safe and caring environment for their loved ones.

I cannot recommend Scarlett House highly enough. We had tried to convince my mother who is 97-years-old for the last 10 years that she would really be better off in a care home but she flatly refused to even talk about it. We were so happy when my mum had to go into a home in December and we were able to get her into Scarlet House. She absolutely loves it there. She has a lovely room with a view over the common. There are kind helpful carers, you can visit whenever you want to, home-made meals and even allowed a glass of wine.
The ladies in the admin office are also extremely helpful and nothing is too much trouble, though they don't have a spare minute in the day, you are always made to feel welcome if you need to talk to them about something.

Thank you everyone but especially the carers who have made my mum so content and happy. Definitely 10/10!

Adrian BoldogJob Title:Home Manager

Becoming a Home Manager at Scarlet House has been the highlight of my career so far. Before this, I was working as a Team Leader. I really wanted an opportunity to progress in my career, and that’s something Care UK has offered.

As Home Manager, it’s important to be caring, compassionate and have a good eye for detail. You also need to have good interpersonal skills and be diligent, hardworking and committed to the home.

I love seeing the residents enjoying activities in the home – it's my favourite part of my working day. I’m proud to work with a fantastic team that makes a difference in residents’ day-to-day lives.

Outside of work, I enjoy family life, and my other interests include music and cars.
