Review from Monique S (Sister of Resident) published on 27 April 2022 Submitted via Postal Card
Overall Experience

My sister came to the home with specific needs, being 71, autistic, mental health problems etc, and requiring specialist feeding. The home was more than happy to have her. She has always treated Victoria Care Centre as her home, and now that she is receiving end of life care, the kindness and compassion of the staff just shine through. They deserve every credit going. Thank you.

My mother has been at Victoria Care Centre, since September 2015. I have found their care during this time, very impressive and reassuring. When my mother was first admitted, she was weak and disorientated, but she became stronger over time thanks to the care she received. This year, she will have been at Victoria Care Centre for seven years, which I think is a great testament to the care.

I love the activity at the home. I go to all group activities every day. The activity staff spends a lot of time with me on 1-1 as well. I have been at the home since 2017. I have made lots of friends with many staff. I am always treated with dignity and respect. I am our activities volunteer and I enjoy being part of their team. The home has maintained my spiritual needs and I am also able to speak in my own language with many staff. I am very happy at my home. I have been at this home for 4 years.

We were very apprehensive at the start and initially, we had teething problems. These were promptly addressed by the management and the head nurse and dealt with quickly and professionally. The staff and especially the nurses are attentive and caring. Everyone from the activities team, housekeeping, maintenance, reception and kitchen staff are accommodating and friendly. 'Keep up the good work'

What great staff my dear uncle arrived to when staying during the lockdown. The staff made him feel really welcome and kept me informed about everything that was happening. They made sure we had video calls as often as possible and went out of their way to make him feel welcome.

Since my uncle has been at the home, he has been well looked after and I am satisfied with the care that my uncle is receiving. Any issues for concern that I may have had, have been dealt with immediately and with the utmost sensitivity. My uncle was living in a sheltered accommodation before Victoria Court and in between, he was admitted into the local Hospital for 10 weeks. During his stay at the hospital, his care was appalling he left the hospital, unable to ever walk again and had numerous bed sores on his rear and feet. On entering Victoria Care, these wounds, which were severe, were treated by the team and never occurred again. My uncle showed signs of some form of neglect in his behaviour before entering Victoria Court, he would shudder whenever anyone approached him and was very defensive. He no longer displays this behaviour and to my knowledge, has a great relationship with the staff and the staff have a good relationship with our family. Very few issues.

My Nan is very well looked after at Victoria Care Centre. The home has run the visiting system really well during the pandemic. I feel very happy that my Nan is very well looked after. Review from Ajay C (Husband of Resident) published on 18 June 2021 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

My loving wife and mum of our only son is a resident at this home and has been for over one year, having an experience of staying on second floor as her Brain Cancer progressed. Staff always displayed compassion and kindness to her, ensuring her dignity was upheld and communicated with us as a family in a professional manner. Prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, family visitors were always warmly greeted. They provided a good range of social and leisure activities and the environment both outdoors and indoors are always spotlessly clean. The meals provided are appetising food and staff would ensure any specific needs are met immediately. The true dedication, commitment, attention to detail and love and affection shown to my wife is simply outstanding! The facility implemented to allow visits during Covid-19 restrictions are superb and we are so grateful for this kindness. There are too many superb individuals to name in this review especially the manager and clinical lead. I am ever so grateful for holding us.

Review from Shriya V (Granddaughter of Resident) published on 18 June 2021 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

My ninety-nine-year-old great-grandmother was a resident at Victoria Care Centre last year. It was a difficult decision to place her in care but it was the only option at the time. This was worsened by the fact we were in the midst of the global pandemic and she was permitted no visitors. The excellent level of care provided by the staff and the facilities at the home put our minds at rest. Her individual and unique needs were well catered to, including cultural food to meet her dietary preferences, as well as staff who could communicate in her language. The care was truly adapted to her lifestyle and made her stay feel like a home from home. The home also had in place special measures to ensure we could still stay in touch with her as best we could, through regular video calls and socially distanced visits via a specially designated screen. Fortunately, she is now more mobile and has been able to return home. The home truly contributed to her getting back on her feet to celebrate her one-hundredth birthday.

This time last March, my darling mother passed away peacefully with my father at her side. But also with my father, were the wonderfully kind staff, who made sure she wasn’t alone even though they were under extreme pressure. We, three daughters, were not able to be there to say goodbye but I feel so very grateful to all those lovely carers, the manager and the activities lady that kept her spirits up when she was down, that made her laugh and made her feel so safe and cared for and she was treated with such kindness and dignity right until the very end. Thank you so much, I will always remember what you did for my mother and my father.

I would highly recommend this care home. The staff work tirelessly to ensure the residents' needs are met with enthusiasm and kindness. My mother only had a short stay sadly, before her passing but everything was done to give her the best quality of life as possible. This care was extended to my father also, helping with funeral arrangements and follow on phone calls to ensure he was coping on his own. We can’t thank everyone enough for their dedication and care.
