Dad spent 3 1/2 months with Gwen Walford House recovering from some health issues whilst we sorted a more independent housing solution. The care and support he received was exemplary, both medically and personally. As a family we were supported by the management down, to facilitate appointments, visits/consultations
by family and health/social professionals. Dad's recovery was greatly helped by them. Thank you.

I cannot fault anything about the service that my father received during his stay at Gwen Walford. All the staff have provided an extremely high standard of care to my father and also a huge support to our family. The home has always been spotlessly clean and particularly during these difficult times
with Covid have provided a caring and safe environment for my father's stay.

I cannot speak too highly of all staff involved in the wellbeing and loving care of my husband. Their dedication and care are second to none. Nothing is ever too much trouble in making sure residents feel cared for, loved and comfortable. However busy they are, they still make time to chat and reassure
my husband, and I have also witnessed the same treatment with other residents. When visiting the home, I am always made to feel part of the home. All levels of staff always make me feel very welcome and are very friendly. The management should be very proud to have such a dedicated workforce. Not forgetting the cleaners/laundry and catering staff who all bend over backwards to give excellent service.

Gwen Walford House is outstanding and their care of my very frail and elderly Mum is a joy and revelation. Mum is very restricted and needs help with every aspect of her life 24/7. The staff willingly meet every need and are continuously bringing comfort and happiness to her. All staff are very caring
and several have quickly formed a remarkable bond, joking with or teasing her into taking her medication and food and drink when she is reluctant. There is such tremendous rapport. I have been overwhelmed by the feeling of love for the residents and this has been especially valued during the Covid pandemic, with family visits impossible. Due to her great age, Mum was never going to get better in any conventional sense, but instead of giving up they have worked so hard to improve her quality of life. This is evidenced by her improved mental health, appetite and ability to engage with everything. I commend their absolute professionalism, commitment and overwhelming care and affection for their residents.

My mother just had her 99th Birthday and has been a resident at Gwen Walford for the last four years and eight months. Her stay and care here have given her a new purpose and lease of life - her comment (many times repeated) "they spoil me here". In my opinion, the high level of care, attention to detail,
professionalism and capability is beyond reproach, it is of the highest standard. I visit (outside of lockdown) very frequently and have seen high standards maintained at all times. My mother is extremely happy here, feel safe and well looked after both medically, physically, mentally and emotionally.
Reply from John Fennell, CEO at Gwen Walford House Nursing HomeThank you so much for taking the time to review the care at Gwen Walford House. I am so pleased that your mother is extremely happy at the home and I am glad the staff spoil her, it is only what she deserves.

Mum came here directly from the hospital after and was bed-bound and on a significant amount of medication. She left the nursing home to move to a residential home on a frame and stick, getting back to her normal self.
The nursing and care was excellent, facilities were good and clean.

My father loved his time at Gwen Walford even though his last few weeks there were obviously difficult for him, the nursing staff there were amazing. My brother and I were with my father for his last 10 days & they treated us extremely well too, with copious amounts of food and drink and were always
very respectful and courteous to my father.

On visiting my aunt at Gwen Walford House I have always found the staff very caring and kind. The food looks good and not a smell of cabbage in the air! The activities seem appropriate to the residents and overall I feel it is a safe careing environment for my Aunt. Visiting Gwen Walford House has dispelled
my concerns about care for the elderley with everything you hear in the press.

I recently visited my aunt at Gwen Walford House and was delighted to see how happy and content she was. We chatted about the nursing standards, the level of care and attention and she was very impressed. As a visitor, I was equally impressed by what I witnessed.

There was a team of friendly and

caring staff who were both keen to help both residents and their family and friends during their visit.
My Aunt was very enthusiastic about the friendliness of the staff and the quality of the food and from what I saw, I can understand why!

Gwen Walford is a wonderful residence that has put our family to ease when it comes to my grandfather. The staff are helpful, inclusive and professional - an attitude that seems almost to spread, as all the residents are kind and social with one another. It seems to be one big group of people that are
encouraged to spend time together.

The rooms are always spotless when I visit, and from what I can see the food is carefully produced and tasty. I have nothing negative at all to say about Gwen Walford Home, nor it's management, and I would recommend it to anyone.

The home surroundings are amongst the best that we looked at when choosing a home, but what confirmed our decision was the fantastic service, (the staff were always only too happy to help), The food always seemed fresh and well prepared and there always seemed to be plenty of activities to get involved
in. We couldn't recommend Gwen Walford House more.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.875)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.875) out of 10 for Gwen Walford House Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 15 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 15 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 5.000 for Gwen Walford House Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (180 Excellents x 5) ) ÷ 180 Ratings = 5
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.875 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Gwen Walford House Nursing Home is based on 15 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.875
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 30 registered maximum number of service users is 6, which has been reached with 15 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
