Willows Care Home is a friendly and modern nursing home in a pleasant residential area of Romford. The home provides person-centred nursing, dementia and palliative care, as well as short-term care for people who need some looking after following a stay in hospital or whose family/carers are temporarily unable to look after them.

Willows has been designed to offer all the facilities that residents need while retaining a warm and homely atmosphere. There are 72 bright and spacious bedrooms spread over three floors. Each is comfortably furnished and has an adjustable automatic bed, nurse-call system and a TV.

All rooms have ensuite or wet room facilities and large windows. Some ground floor rooms also have French windows opening onto the garden. Residents are encouraged to personalise their room with pictures, family photographs and ornaments of their choice.

Each floor has a team of nursing and care staff that is available 24/7, supported by dedicated teams of chefs, activities, administration, housekeeping and cleaning staff.

The communal areas provide plenty of space for residents to entertain their guests, who are always welcome to stop by for a chat. There is also a dining room and lounge on each floor where residents can gather for meals and group activities or socialising. As maintaining a homely feel is important, the lounge can be arranged to suit residents' preference for quiet time as well.

There is free Wi-Fi as well as lift access throughout, and both the home and the garden are wheelchair accessible. The home’s dedicated on-site salon provides regular hairdressing services.

The large, landscaped garden at Willows offers plenty of seating space to enjoy in pleasant weather when the ‘garden café’ provides residents and guests with tea and fresh pastries.

My parents have moved to the Willows two weeks ago (both Alzheimer's) My experience of the staff has been excellent - they treat mum and dad with dignity and have listened to me throughout the settling in period. They have worked to involve dad in the home community and where mum is bed bound; she is
cared for and monitored. It is clean and well maintained. The rooms are hot as the unfortunate heatwave has hit in their second week. The food has been super and in good supply. So far this has been a positive move in what is a difficult and emotional decision to move them from care at home to a care home setting. I feel happy having my parents in the care of the staff, and I feel comfortable discussing the careplan - at no time has anyone made me feel that my contributions are not listened to as we work together to resettle them into a new home.
Reply from Claudia Ramsamy, Home manager at Willows Care HomeThank you so much for taking the time to share your experience.

My cousin was made very welcome on arrival at the Willows in August 2023. She was very well cared for there in the next 2 1/2 years until she passed peacefully away. Throughout her time at The Willows, she was treated kindly and compassionately by all the staff. When I visited, the staff were always
friendly and helpful. My visits were always unannounced, and each time I arrived, to find no cause for concern. My cousin's room and ensuite were always clean and tidy, as was all the interior fabric of the building. It was reassuring at all times to know that my cousin was comfortable and well cared for. She often said she liked the staff.
Reply from Claudia Ramsamy, Home manager at Willows Care HomeThank you so much for taking the time to share your kind words about your cousin's time at The Willows.

The care home staff on Birch Floor working very hard and were totally dedicated to their respective roles on the floor. They performed their duties with a friendly smile and were very supportive offering advice when needed. My father received respect and dignity. I was very happy with this home. All
the support staff ie. cleaners and laundry were just as helpful and worked hard. A well run care home with strong leadership from the manager and her team.

10 months ago my niece, myself and family visited several nursing homes in the Romford area but each one had issues we were unhappy about until we visited. The Willows, they ticked every box regarding my brother-in-law's needs. All the staff gave 100% excellent nursing, care and attention and to his
family too. They involved us with decisions, listened, obliging, professional, friendly, we felt so welcome, it was just like we were one big extended family. We will be forever appreciative and thank them all knowing he was in safe kind hands, a;; that he deserved too.
Thank you all.

My mother in law has been a resident for 5 weeks now and it's clear to us that willows care home is very good ,the reception area and the gardens are well kept when you enter the building doesn't smell like a care home,it's clean and fresh the residents are smartly dressed and that shows, the staff care
the food looks ok with a varied menu changing daily my mother in-laws room is decorated in pastel colours and with a few pictures and ornaments from home helps her to settle in as she suffers from dementia we are happy with willows and the staff and management are very professional and obviously care

My sister has lived at the Willows for four years. She has M.S. and is wheelchair bound. A hoist is used 100% of the time. Carers are helpful pleasant and caring. Wait times for the bathroom is an issue but I have spoke n to management and it is going to be addressed. Claudia the new coordinator is
very good and we are glad she has come back to her previous role. Nursing staff is supportive and knowledgeable. Cost of living at the Willows is extremely high so high quality of life is expected.
Reply from Claudia Ramsamy, Home manager at Willows Care HomeThank you for taking the time to share your thoughtful feedback. We truly appreciate your sister and your family being part of The Willows family for the past four years.
We're pleased to hear that our carers are providing helpful, pleasant, and compassionate support, and that our nursing team is meeting expectations with their knowledge and care. Thank you also for you kind words around management.
We also thank you for raising the concern regarding bathroom wait times. Your feedback has been discussed with management, and we are actively working on improvements to address this matter. We understand that timely assistance is essential, particularly for residents with complex needs.
We recognize that the cost of living at The Willows is significant, and we remain committed to delivering a high quality of life and care that reflects that investment. Thank you again for your honest feedback and for trusting us with your sister's care.

Bright and clean, much larger inside than expected and a private gated car park for visitors.
Very secure, sign in facility upon entry, main doorways and lifts are security accessed (by fob). Friendly reception staff and a visitors area for a drink and a chat. Lovely landscaped garden, with benches
and tables, safe and peaceful.

A good staff to resident ratio and the various rooms are all bright and cozy.
Basic furniture provided but you can take in extras. All rooms have an en suite toilet/shower wet room. fully adjustable hospital beds, with movement sensors attached. My experience has been that the staff are there very quickly

Food is great, lots of choices. The main meal is lunchtime and supper is mostly soup and sandwiches but other options if requested earlier.

Great activities each day, access to them sometimes a little difficult, the activities team arrange singers, trips out, wellbeing and Art/craft sessions etc. They were the deciding factor on us choosing this home

Mum is very well looked after at Willows and all the staff are very friendly and helpful. She enjoyed all the activities that were arranged over Xmas and the New Year and also the recent music session with the visiting DJ. Mum's physical and mental health is much improved and it's also good to see she
has put on weight since being in her new home. She recently moved rooms and is very happy with her new room. Thank you to one staff member in particular for getting her new room set up nicely. Thanks for all you do and keep up the great work.

Mum went to Willows straight from hospital as she required palliative care as the hospital could not help her further. What she needed was to be well looked after with care from staff that cared and had compassion. We found the staff overall excellent, easy to talk to and they listened if you had any
matters that you thought needed addressing. As an overall experience we were very happy and I would recommend the home to others. When Mum sadly passed this month the staff were excellent in their support and they treated Mum with dignity both before and after her death.

I visited my mum back in July and I found that she is very well cared for, she walks around on her floor quite a bit and is quite happy to do so, that with her dementia, it's keeping her mind occupied and fit. She eats very well so I have no concerns for her wellbeing She also has a one to one carer

My sister came to live at Willows in July 2024 after a 7-month period of ill health spent in hospital and in another nursing home. She has settled in well and appears at ease and in good health and spirits. As I live in Ireland, I do not get to see her in person as often as I would like, but we talk
every day, and care is taken that her phone is charged and available. I am always contacted whenever there is some important event pending. I have just returned from a four-day visit and came away well-satisfied with the quality of her care and of the environment she lives in. My sister's many friends have all told me the same. Thank you, Willows.

Mum is quite new to the Willows but we as a family are very impressed with her care and wellbeing to date. She was made very welcome from the start and is happy there. The management and staff are friendly and approachable and having Nurses on duty 24/7 is very helpful and reassuring for Mum.
The
home seems to be kept very clean and there is always a really nice (cleaning product) fragrance in the corridors when I visit.
The food looks appetising and Mum enjoys it. The activities programme is fun and varied and residents are encouraged to join in by the lovely staff. There are morning and afternoon activities, regular trips out and entertainers coming into the home. Mum really enjoyed the ventriloquist and Magician! We are looking forward to joining her for the 70's disco!
As the weather has been warmer recently, Mum has really enjoyed sitting in the garden chatting. All in all, it is a great relief to know that Mum is happy and being well cared for at the Willows.

Willows Care Home is a terrific place to stay in, whatever your reason. The care staff are the best and everyone is excellent. Nothing is too much for them to handle. If you are able, and interested, there are activities to visit and participate in. Or you can just sit and watch. The Activity Staff
will keep you amused every day, twice a day! The Catering staff are very helpful: if you do not fancy anything on the daily menu, they will try to assist you with something else. But do remember there are other residents to consider, so 70 different meals would be an impossible task! The lovely people in charge are the best! I will not mention individual staff in each case, too many.

Overall Experience 4.0 out of 5
Willows is well-run and family-friendly having daily activities run by the wellbeing team and also having days out and various trips to the seaside and shows and evening events for both residents and relatives. All staff are very professional and caring.

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.655) out of 10 for Willows Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 17 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 17 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.730 for Willows Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (151 Excellents x 5) + (44 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 200 Ratings = 4.73
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.925 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Willows Care Home is based on 17 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.925
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 72 registered maximum number of service users is 14.4, which has been reached with 17 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
