After 18 months at Sutton Grange, I have recently lost my husband to Parkinson's/Alzheimers.
The care he has received in the Woodlands Unit has been just amazing. Throughout this time, he has been so well cared for. As a purpose built home, the environment is lovely. The staff are brilliant and so obviously care for the residents, and, the families too. The food has been good throughout, even when my husband had to move to pureed food. The activities that are held are great, there is so much variety and lots of things happening.
Many of the families of other residents now feel like friends.
The care received during the 10 days that my husband was on end of life, the staff were amazing, it's hard to articulate the care he received and the empathy towards us. It was a very hard 10 days but made easier with the compassionate care he received.

The only frustration I had was items going missing, but on a dementia unit it's inevitable and I just changed my expectations.

When Mum decided to go into a care home, I had only one I wanted her to go into. Sutton Grange. My granddaughter and I sing in care homes around Southport, I feel that Sutton Grange is the cleanest and the staff are really caring.
After two weeks Mum decided to stay, she loves the staff, in Mums words " They help me with things and look after me, look they painted my nail!"
To say I am extremely happy for her, is an understatement.
I cant thank everyone involved in the care home enough from cleaners to management, and all in between. The residents are fabulous too.
I APPLAUD EVERYONE Thank you for making it a painless change for Mum and for myself and other relatives, its a home from home.
Thank you all

I was discharged from hospital, I was mobile but needed a "safe space" for a few days. Sutton Grange quickly completed all the paperwork and assessments. They were ready for me when I arrived. All the staff knew I was expected and as new staff came on duty they asked if I was "D". Everyone was friendly. There was a a good choice of food which was well cooked and presented. The other residents were friendly. There were activities if you wished to join in.
The weather was good that weekend and so i spent some time in the gardens catching up on my reading. The bedrooms were as good as a first class hotel.

The best point about Sutton Grange are its staff - they are professional ,and caring. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it for respite care or a long term home.

After an illness, Dad was left in a frail state and was happy to go into residential care. From the start, staff were caring and thoughtful, cheerful and punctilious in looking after Dad. Dad's room is very pleasant and sunny. Cleanliness is very good, as is the decor. The dining room, food, table layout are of hotel standard. Dad is very complimentary about the food, staff... all of it. The unit is small (twenty residents) which allows individual care. This is, by far, the best home I visited and is excellent value.

Reply from Francesca Lally, General Manager at Barchester Sutton Grange Care Home

At Sutton Grange, we pride ourselves with giving high standards of care and can accommodate resident's individual needs. We understand and empathise that this can be a daunting decision to come into a care facility and we do do our best to make residents and their families feel part of our family at Sutton Grange. Thank you for your positive feedback and I will cascade to the team.

My dad was cared for at Sutton Grange in the last few weeks of his life. He really loved the gardens and the wonderful outlook from his room. He particularly enjoyed sitting out in the garden on the day the alpacas came to visit. All the staff at Sutton Grange are lovely, and Dad was really appreciative of the care and kindness he received from everyone who looked after him. Family and friends are always made to feel very welcome, the atmosphere is warm and friendly, and the catering is very good. We all enjoyed visiting Dad at Sutton Grange and would like to thank everyone for making Dad feel so safe, comfortable and well cared for. You all do an amazing job!

Both my parents are being cared for at Sutton Grange in different areas because their needs differ. Overall we as a family are delighted with their care and can see that they both have settled well and are benefiting from the care and attention given to them. Staff are always warm and welcoming.
We feel that communication could be improved between senior carers and family and that there seems to be a lack of continuity of carer at times.
Catering is good, but the menu seems repetitive and there is a lack of fresh fruit available. Staff numbers I understand make it difficult to help residents who are bed-bound eat, but time with them at meal times means a lot and helps with mood and wellbeing.

We would like to thank all staff and understand some of the challenges they face on a daily basis. Seasons greetings to everyone.

In March 2024, my mum, who has dementia, will have been living at Sutton Grange for four years. Since then, her condition has, of course, progressed, and the nature of the care provided has evolved as appropriate. My father was a resident at Sutton Grange Care Home for just over six months, from March 2023 to his death in September 2023. He enjoyed the sunny aspect of the home, the garden, the resident dog, the food and all the activities which seemed, to me, to happen almost daily, from themed tea parties to quizzes to mini-lectures.
Most of all, he was extremely happy with the staff who looked after him with care and respect. They made the last few months of his life much more bearable, and in particular, he was appreciative of one member of staff, the activities coordinator and the handyman.
We felt welcome to visit at any time and enjoyed a good chat with the staff and a cup of tea.
The administration and paying his fees was very straightforward.

We are deeply grateful to everyone there for what they did for him and know that it made a difference in his final months.

My husband was transferred to Sutton Grange Care Home in October after 6 months in the hospital because of his dementia. He settled in well straight away and was much happier than he had been in the hospital. Over the last 3 months, his physical health has improved and he is much calmer and more lucid than previously. He has regained the weight that he had lost in the hospital and joins in with organised activities of which there are many. I am so thankful for the care he receives from all the staff. They are all compassionate and respectful and I have nothing but the highest praise for them and the management.

I didn't want to put my husband in a care home, but after caring for him for three years with dementia I was ready for a rest. l tried two care homes but all he wanted was to come home, in fact, he managed to get out of the first one and was running into the road. l only wanted two weeks rest so l tried another one and after two days he fell and broke his hip, after his time in hospital. l found Barchester Sutton Grange Care Home, what a difference! He settled very quickly and didn't even ask to come home. It was like going into a hotel, the staff couldn't do enough for us. l can recommend this care home to anyone. Thank you to all the staff and the management for their care and attention to my husband.
