I started here on a fortnight's respite care after being taken ill at home, but owing to circumstances it became necessary to spend another two weeks here. I have been well cared for by all the staff during my stay and I would fully recommend it on all accounts.
I was very impressed by the welcome
I received by everyone, especially as I was very apprehensive about coming in a care home even on a short stay.

I came here for a rest after major surgery, I have been here for 2 weeks, such a lovely place. Everybody is so kind and helpful. I got the peace and quiet I needed, lots of lovely food. I am now feeling well enough to go home, I will miss the care I got here.

I came here for respite care after a hip operation and I really feel the benefit of my three-week stay. All members of staff helped to build up my confidence with their caring and positive attitude. This was greatly helped by excellent food, a beautiful garden, thoughtfully planned rooms in a calm relaxed
atmosphere.
I do feel though that the activities could be better planned, and although the staff concerned were warm and willing, people I think they could be helped by more training and support. I would certainly recommend Thirlestaine Park as an excellent care home for both short and long stay.

Our friend has spent two months respite care at Thirlestaine Park and we cannot recommend it highly enough. All the staff and manager are very caring, considerate and extremely efficient. We wish to extend our heart felt appreciation to all who work there. We hope that when our friend needs permanent
care that a room will be available.
Reply from Terri Berry, Client Services Manager at Thirlestaine Park Care HomeThank you for your kind words and review of our home. Should the time ever come that a more permanent arrangement is needed, we will be only too pleased to assist in whatever way we can. Best wishes, Terri

I moved my 95-year-old mother - elderly and frail with dementia to Thurlestaine 6 weeks ago from a care home in East Cheshire. I received excellent support from Thurlestaine Park management to enable as smooth a transition as possible. Mother has been very well nursed, cared for and respected. She and
I are listened to and the communication in this home is very good. The only area in which I am unable to fully comment is activities. The staff appear young and limited in their experience of how to communicate .

My mother was a resident in this care home for approximately 8 weeks. During this time, she was looked after by wonderful, caring staff who treated her with respect and dignity. Nothing was too much trouble. The staff were always friendly and approachable; my mother was always clean and comfortable.
The home is very pleasant and my mother had a lovely room. It was nice to be able to sit out on the balcony when the weather was good and the gardens were lovely.

We moved my father from his home in Northern Ireland to Thirlestaine Park as his health was deteriorating and we wanted him to be close to us. I am so happy we chose Thirlestaine Park. It is a very comfortable and caring place to be. The staff are wonderful and dedicated.
The care he received was
fabulous and I am so grateful to everyone there for making his stay so relaxed. He was in the final stages of cancer and I am very happy to say that I couldn’t have asked for better care. Thank you.

My father was resident at Thirlestaine Park from Jan 2015 till his death at the end of February 2016. Throughout his time there he received excellent care, increasing as he became progressively more frail. The staff were always cheerful and compassionate to him and to me. They were fully appreciative
of his wish to maintain as much independence as possible and sensitive to this as he became more reliant on their care. A peaceful very comfortable environment, comfortable rooms and excellent communal space.

All the staff were helpful and supportive during this very difficult transition for my mum from the home she had lived in for 62 years and where she had envisaged ending her days, to being looked after in somewhere she didn't know. They are all very kind and considerate and Mum is more settled as time
goes on. At 99, she chooses not to join in all of the activities on offer but is always asked. The staff have also been considerate of my sister's and my needs as have had to come to terms with this period of Mum's life. The facilities are excellent, but it is the people who make this a home.

This is a very modern and well equipped care home. Mum was happy in the home and with the loving and caring support of the staff has improved significantly. Her only concern is the low number of residents in the newly built care home. This will improve with time. Highly recommended.

We moved my husband into this care home when our previous on had to close it's nursing wing. He, we and the carers here have all had to adapt to new ways regimes etc. but in spite of one or two minor glitches things are going very well and my husband has settled in happily. The most difficult part of
each day is around the time of the evening meal when many of the residents require a lot of help with feeding whilst others (my 90 yr old husband especially) want nothing more than to be put to bed. The number of carers often seems to be inadequate for the tasks required of them at this time but they remain kind and as helpful as possible.

This home is very welcoming; staff treat the clients and families with dignity and respect. The meal choice is good and well cooked; we were always offered a drink as visitors. The only constructive criticism I have is that we took my mum outside in the wheelchair and got into a small back locked garden,
we didn't have the code to get back in and there was no way of contacting anyone. There should be a call bell/alarm or someway of contact.

We chose Thirlestaine House care home for my mother because it ticked all the boxes for her needs. We as a family were warmly welcomed on every visit and we enjoyed using the comfortable facilities. Mum needed lots of nursing especially in her last days. The nursing staff were wonderful, caring and
thoughtful and carried out their duties very expertly, and after mum passed away she and her family were treated with dignity, by all the staff at the home. For this we are so grateful it helped mum and her family through a very difficult journey. Thank you to everyone.
Reply from Terri Berry, Client Services Manager at Thirlestaine Park Care HomeThank you for these kind words which will mean a great deal to the team when I share them. My 93 year old mother needed respite care after a fall at Christmas before returning home to Devon. After research Thirlestaine seemed to offer all that was needed. Good inspection report, modern roomy building, modern, clean, friendly staff and quiet atmosphere. Everywhere fresh and bright with pictures
and flowers. From initial meeting with manager, assessment at home, care for four weeks, good amenities for family visits, and sincere good wishes on leaving - we couldn't have wished for anything more or a more positive experience. Hopefully this has given mother a positive insight into residential care when the time comes.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.655)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.655) out of 10 for Thirlestaine Park Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 14 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 14 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.805 for Thirlestaine Park Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (134 Excellents x 5) + (28 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 164 Ratings = 4.805
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.85 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Thirlestaine Park Care Home is based on 14 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.85
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 63 registered maximum number of service users is 12.6, which has been reached with 14 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
