Avondale Care Home

from Susan D (Daughter of Resident) published on 8 December 2025
Submitted via Website • Report
Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
My Mum had previously stayed in Avondale for short periods of respite while we went on holiday, and she - and we - were always very happy with her care. Mum particularly appreciated the activities, the meals and the beautiful decor of the rooms and communal areas.

When her health declined rapidly

during the summer and she needed residential care, we were so glad that there was availability at Avondale for Mum. The management did all they could to find familiar accommodation for her at short notice and even extended their regular admission hours to be able to receive her from hospital. The same staff whose company she had enjoyed in past visits nursed her compassionately and attentively during her final weeks, always willing to go the extra mile. They cared for us and comforted us too, when it was clear Mum's life was coming to a close.

We cannot thank the staff enough for all they did. Nurses, reception, management, caterers and especially Yellow - you know who you are. Thank you.

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
After my 97 year old mother decided she wanted to be in a care home we had to move quickly. Savenake provided everything we were looking for.
It has a lovely atmosphere, comfortable surroundings, quiet spaces , good food and more importantly a happy and caring team of staff who often go above and
beyond to help the residents.
My mother , who is not the easiest person to please , has settled in really well , she is happy and has even managed to take advantage of the varied programme of activities available. We feel her general well being has improved since coming to Savenake as she has plenty of stimulation and company that she didn't have when living alone .

I had a hip operation on 20th October and needed somewhere to recuperate for a few days. My main retirement village is very close. My stay in Upton Mill met all my requirements and expectations. I could not have managed at home on my own. Atmosphere cheerful, staff attentive and helpful - very little
patronising. Some evidence of staff chat with some staff showing lack of confidence. Good value for money.

Barley Manor Care Home

from Diane M (Wife of Resident) published on 28 November 2025
Submitted via Website • Report
Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
My husband spent three comfortable and safe weeks having respite care at Barley Manor in late September and through October, and we both send huge thanks to all the staff for their care and attention. It is always difficult choosing a Care Home, and our choice was guided by location, and by personal
visits. Barley Manor has only been open for one year and so there were only a few reviews or personal recommendations. The Care Home is beautifully appointed and from the moment of entering, there is a huge welcome. The decor is lovely, the staff so friendly and caring and the food is quite excellent. . The cafe on the ground floor is a hub for everyone to gather and socialise - and enjoy too many delicious freshly baked cakes and pastries! Visitors likened it to a 5* hotel.
I had the reassurance that my husband was being very professionally and well looked after while I was away.
We would recommend Barley Manor to all and everyone without hesitation, and wish it a continued success.

My mum has been a resident since June this year. From day one, all the staff have gone over and above to make her feel welcome and at home in this next chapter in her life. My sister and I are extremely satisfied with the way the home functions and the care our mum receives.
Thirlstaine Park, was
stand out when visiting prospective facilities to place mum, and remains absolutely at the top of their game.

My mum came here after 4 weeks in hospital following a massive stroke. I had to make the decision on bringing her to be nearby me without having any chance to view. This has been an excellent experience in our circumstances.
Every one of the staff have shown care and compassion to both my mum and
my family, throughout our unfortunately short stay here.
Nothing was too much trouble.
The rooms are well furnished, airy and spacious. Communal lounges are also well appointed.

From the very first day, the kindness shown by Annie set the tone for everything that followed. Her empathy, coupled with deep knowledge & professionalism, immediately put us at ease. The assessment carried out by Annie & Zoe, the Dementia Care Manager, was exceptional - thoughtful, thorough, and person-centred
in every way. Zoe's expertise in dementia care shines through, both she and Annie made us feel Dad was truly understood & respected as an individual. The home itself is beautiful and homely - not in an overwhelming way, but in a way that feels comforting and familiar without being a painful reminder of the home Dad no longer lives in. The décor is stylish yet welcoming, striking a perfect balance between comfort and dignity. What really stands out is the focus on wellbeing and dignity. Every decision & action feels centred around the person, not just the process. The entire team genuinely cares about residents and their families,& it shows in every interaction.

Hartfield House Care Home

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
My mother has lived at Hartfield House for 8 months, and it makes so so relieved to hear her say how much she loves the place and the people - both staff and residents.
I personally cannot fault the home. Everything is designed to make the residents comfortable, occupied, very well fed and feeling

Astbury Mere Care Home

As many families know, placing a loved one in a dementia care home is an emotionally traumatic experience. Our father's initial placement home failed but through good fortune, family and friends, we found Astbury Mere Care Home. The administrative care team was very helpful and responsive to our plight
and concerns, and the care team welcomed him with such warmth and professionalism we immediately felt we were part of a family of carers and residents! The dementia floor is spacious and decorated in a welcoming, calming yet colorful design. The residents can move around freely while supervised and have several large communal areas, including a craft room, to congregate in. There is a large "green space" around most of the building in which residents can walk with staff or family supervision. Regular excursions are planned and visitors are welcomed at any time.

Since becoming a resident after a few hospital trips, Mum has started gaining weight, and her mental health has improved along with her strength, allowing her to move around more independently, which was a struggle before and had to use a wheelchair most of the time. Having Mum in Hartfield House gives
me peace of mind knowing she is cared for and safe. She is also having her medication regularly. The staff are all very approachable and helpful. Thank you to all for caring for my mum and making me feel welcome and part of the Hartfield House family; it means so much.

Tonbridge House Care Home

Tonbridge House has been so wonderful for our 87 year old mother who for the first time in her life required respite care as none of her children was able to care for her during half term week.
Mum was understandably reluctant to go but the welcome and attention she received from the staff was delightful.
I too felt reassured.
Daily updates regarding mum''s stay were carried out as promised and my fears for adapting were allayed.
The staff were wonderful and I cannot thank them all enough for making mum feel 'at home'. The week slipped by so quickly not only for mum but for us children too. Very reassuring!

And to hear mum had been involved with crosswords/singing/Dominoes was just wonderful to hear.
Thank you Tonbridge House!!

Barley Manor Care Home

My Dad moved into Barley Manor three weeks ago and has settled well. The care home has a warm, friendly atmosphere and my Dad and us, as a family, have been made to feel welcome.
The admission process was informative, clear and above all empathetic and thoughtful. The client services manager listened
to my Dad's needs and then sensitively helped choose a suitable room for him. This person thought about Dad as an individual, not just someone to fill a room, she showed compassion and attention to detail.
The staff want my Dad to be happy, which is exemplified by the activity ladies who make a point of checking in with Dad and to our delight have got him attending events they put on, eg quiz. They listen to Dad, tune into his conversations and try to accommodate his interests.
The care team seems patient, calm, and responsive. Dad has had a few moments when he has felt anxious, but this is always quickly rectified, which is reassuring.
I would recommend Barley Manor wholeheartedly

I cannot speak too highly of Bourne Wood Manor. The care my husband received was excellent! it far surpassed our expectations. He was there for 2 months respite & we could see the improvement daily. All the staff were so friendly helpful & caring. He frequently tells us how well he was looked after

Lea Grange Care Home is wonderful. From the moment you walk through the door, it feels like a hug - warm, welcoming, and full of kindness. My mum has settled in so well; she originally went in for respite care but has been so happy there that she's decided to stay permanently. The staff are genuinely
caring and nothing is ever too much trouble. The home is spotless, the food is gorgeous, and the atmosphere is full of love and comfort. They don't just care for the residents; they care for the families too. I can't recommend Lea Grange highly enough.

I have been visiting Wiltshire Heights for a year now. I always find the staff super helpful, friendly and acknowledgeable from reception to cleaners. The couple I visit here are very well cared for as it seems are all the residents. There are lots of communal areas, including gardens that encourage
a community atmosphere. Coffee, tea cakes also add to the welcoming ambience.

From my very first approach and visit to Bourne Wood Manor Care Home I received the best advice, kindness and help as to how I could introduce my friend, who lived alone, to the fact that she needed to be in a safe environment due to rapid deterioration of Alzheimers despite her young age. The initial
contact and care that was taken throughout the whole process was just excellent and so very caring, the best interaction I could ever have hoped for. We were so welcomed and arrangements were made as swiftly as possible for care to commence at the earliest opportunity. The whole team at BWM Care Home are so engaged, kind, caring, empathetic and considerate of both the incoming resident as well as the carer who carried the responsibility. My friend is in a wonderful home with beautiful gardens, great facilities and activities which are all kept to the highest standard but most importantly she is being so well cared for and is safe.
