It was wonderful this afternoon visiting my aunt. The staff couldn't have been more kind and friendly. We had a delicious lunch together and then a fabulous surprise, Charlie organised it as she knows Julie was a ballet dancer.
Julie loved it and it was such a treat at Christmas.
The experience here,
the atmosphere, the care and kindness I couldn't speak more highly of.

Since my mother moved into Upton Mill she has visibly improved in both physical and mental health. My initial feelings of guilt and anxiety about my mother moving from her home of 50 years were gradually, then fully eased, as she settled into her new and chosen home. The staff are caring kind and supportive.
They are also aware of how such a move affects close relatives, providing support there too. My mother has become more mobile and found friends, at the age of 97, when she had previously become lonely and sad. Thank you.
Reply from Alyson Day, Home Manager at Upton Mill Care HomeThank you for your heart-warming feedback. We completely understand how difficult it can be to make the decision to move a loved one into a care home, so I am glad to hear you felt supported by our team throughout the process.

My 92 year old mother became a resident of this care home in September 2025 following a short period of hospitalisation. Sadly my mother is now confined to either her bed or a chair. Throughout her time at Upton Mill Care Home she has received a fantastic level of care, support and affection from all
of the team who look after her for which we are very grateful.
In all of my dealings with Upton Mill Care Home I have found all of the staff including both the administrators and carers to be friendly, personable, knowledgeable and considerate. I know that my mother has found it challenging to adapt to this new phase of her life but the team have done all that is possible to make her feel at home and to provide for her needs.
Upton Mill Care Home is a modern purpose built facility with excellent amenities. The property is impeccably clean, tidy and well decorated. I could not wish for my mother to be in a better care home or to be cared for by better staff.

My sister had a recent stay at Upton Mill following a hospital stay and treatment for her cancer. They were wonderful with her, and she made a great recovery, far better than expected.
All the team were so kind & helpful. We could not fault anyone.
I think she only recovered because of the love &
care she received at Upton Mill, & I will always be thankful for having my sister with me for a little longer.
Reply from Alyson Day, Home Manager at Upton Mill Care HomeThank you for taking the time to leave us such a heart-warming review. I am glad to hear we were able to assist in your sister's recovery. Mum has been bed bound for 98% of the time for last few months - advanced stages of dementia although she can now barely communicate with them, I have witnessed staff doing her personal care with amazing tenderness, love, compassion and professionalism. The permanent staff are unfailingly excellent
- and look after me too when I visit. We regularly discuss mum's health and well-being her carers love her as one of their own!

I had a hip operation on 20th October and needed somewhere to recuperate for a few days. My main retirement village is very close. My stay in Upton Mill met all my requirements and expectations. I could not have managed at home on my own. Atmosphere cheerful, staff attentive and helpful - very little
patronising. Some evidence of staff chat with some staff showing lack of confidence. Good value for money.

You certainly get what you are paying for. Sadly, my father couldn't use any facilities, and despite lowering fees was moved by family to social service care in another care home due to lack of funds. Staff were all lovely and helpful, and reassuring. Thank you.

Upton Mill is a beautiful & caring nursing home for those that need it. My Aunt was in her final weeks so wasn't able to fully benefit from the amazing facilities & events that this home offers. The food is great & the home is kept very clean with a lovely modern but cosy feel to it. However, the staff
are its biggest plus point, offering advice & support for relatives & an excellent standard of care for the residents. This home & it's staff were a god send for me & my aunt, & I'll be forever grateful for the care they showed us, thank you

We are so thankful we found Upton Mill for our mum. All the staff are so attentive and caring to residents and their families. Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.645)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.645) out of 10 for Upton Mill Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 46 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 45 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.645 for Upton Mill Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (382 Excellents x 5) + (134 Goods x 4) + (22 Satisfactorys x 3) + (5 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 543 Ratings = 4.645
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Upton Mill Care Home is based on 45 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 64 registered maximum number of service users is 12.8, which has been reached with 45 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

I have been a qualified nurse for the majority of my career, working in various settings and roles, including district nursing, commissioning work and legal work. The main passion running through all these positions is person-centred care, which is why I was attracted to Upton Mill, as they provide individualised care for all of their residents.

In my spare time, I love to travel with my husband. I do a lot of physical activity, which includes yoga, visiting the gym and trekking. I am also a practising clinical hypnotherapist.
