Dad has been a resident here for nearly two years. During this time the home has improved on what was already a very high standard and must now be ranked among the best. The staff are always very friendly, nothing is too much trouble, and they all have a good positive attitude. The food is of a high
standard with a good variety served in a very well laid out restaurant area. Christmas entertainment was very good with a large amount of activities taking place to keep everybody happy and feel in the festive mood.
Christmas presents were given to the residents which were a nice touch, you could see someone had taken time to actually pick the presents individually. Activities have really been stepped up a notch during the last year with a large choice to choose from.
Moving a loved one into a care home is always going to be a tough decision, but knowing Dad is at Upton Mill has made it a lot more bearable.

I can't praise the home enough! The level of nursing care is extremely good, the friendliness and efficiency of all the staff is wonderful. The receptionists are so welcoming they make you feel cared for. Nothing is too much effort for them including a friendly chat, ensuring you feel listened too and
being there for the residents and guests in the Bistro. I'm certain they do the job of 2 people as they always have so much to do, but always with a smile.
The activities staff are a breath of fresh air, always upbeat and encourage the residents to participate in the many varied activities they organise. I thoroughly enjoy joining in and being part of the 'Upton Mill Family'.
Christmas was so magical with the home resembling a 'Santas Grotto' Well done all the staff.
I particularly enjoy and am always impressed at the special days that are organised. In January The Burns Night celebrations were superb. Most impressive is the way the home engage with the community especially the children

Upton Mill has given us the opportunity as a family for mum to have 24hrs care like in her own room given her the feeling of independence but the security of knowing people are around. Staff have a good understanding of mum's needs (dementia) & go above & beyond. When mum came to Upton Mill she thought
it was a hotel & very posh!

Since visiting Upton Mill my view on care homes has changed. Upton Mill never fails to surprise. The effort they put into looking after the residents is second to none. I've seen a few residents have their 100th birthday at Upton and all I can say is wow. Just wonderful! The care home is so clean with
great facilities and entertainment, the food looks great and the staff are so helpful & caring. Not afraid to get old now.

It was wonderful this afternoon visiting my aunt. The staff couldn't have been more kind and friendly. We had a delicious lunch together and then a fabulous surprise, Charlie organised it as she knows Julie was a ballet dancer.
Julie loved it and it was such a treat at Christmas.
The experience here,
the atmosphere, the care and kindness I couldn't speak more highly of.

Since my mother moved into Upton Mill she has visibly improved in both physical and mental health. My initial feelings of guilt and anxiety about my mother moving from her home of 50 years were gradually, then fully eased, as she settled into her new and chosen home. The staff are caring kind and supportive.
They are also aware of how such a move affects close relatives, providing support there too. My mother has become more mobile and found friends, at the age of 97, when she had previously become lonely and sad. Thank you.

My 92 year old mother became a resident of this care home in September 2025 following a short period of hospitalisation. Sadly my mother is now confined to either her bed or a chair. Throughout her time at Upton Mill Care Home she has received a fantastic level of care, support and affection from all
of the team who look after her for which we are very grateful.
In all of my dealings with Upton Mill Care Home I have found all of the staff including both the administrators and carers to be friendly, personable, knowledgeable and considerate. I know that my mother has found it challenging to adapt to this new phase of her life but the team have done all that is possible to make her feel at home and to provide for her needs.
Upton Mill Care Home is a modern purpose built facility with excellent amenities. The property is impeccably clean, tidy and well decorated. I could not wish for my mother to be in a better care home or to be cared for by better staff.

My sister had a recent stay at Upton Mill following a hospital stay and treatment for her cancer. They were wonderful with her, and she made a great recovery, far better than expected.
All the team were so kind & helpful. We could not fault anyone.
I think she only recovered because of the love &
care she received at Upton Mill, & I will always be thankful for having my sister with me for a little longer.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.770)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.770) out of 10 for Upton Mill Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 75 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 74 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.770 for Upton Mill Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (714 Excellents x 5) + (141 Goods x 4) + (22 Satisfactorys x 3) + (6 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 883 Ratings = 4.77
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Upton Mill Care Home is based on 74 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 64 registered maximum number of service users is 12.8, which has been reached with 74 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Hello, my name is Alyson, and I am the Home Manager here at Upton Mill.

I have worked in the care sector since 1981 in various settings that have given me extensive experience in nursing, residential, hospital and day services.

I have been a manager for just over 26 years and previously successfully commissioned a home in Bristol. I have also supported other care homes through local authority visits and Care Quality Commission inspections.

I love doing what I do each day and am committed to providing a high-quality service for our residents and their loved ones. The reputation of our home is incredibly important to me.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my partner and my very active Labrador. I have two children and three young grandchildren, making me a rather young and hip nanny!

Hello, my name is Kirstie, and I am the Non-Clinical Deputy Manager here at Upton Mill.

I have worked in senior care homes since I was 18 years old, when my own great-grandmother was due to be admitted to a care home. I have worked across the private sector as well as working for a charitable trust, and the variety of experience I have gained in my different roles has been invaluable to me in my career. I was lucky enough to be promoted to my current role in April 2024.

I am passionate about staff progression and ensuring our residents have the highest standards of care and are empowered to be able to express their choices, goals and wishes so they may live their lives how they wish. I have always enjoyed working with senior individuals and could not imagine working in any other sector.

It is a privilege to be able to spend time with our residents, to put smiles on their faces and have fun with them. I view each of our residents as a member of my extended family and take pride in getting to know every resident personally, ensuring there is always something for them to do that suits their interests.

To further my knowledge, I am currently undertaking a Level 3 apprenticeship with the hopes of furthering my skills to the benefit of our residents.

In my spare time, I enjoy socialising with my family and friends, watching movies and reality television.
