My stay at Thirlestaine was just what I needed. All staff were lovely. If I need respite care again in the future I wouldn't hesitate to go to Thirlestaine. Ps the bed could have been a little more comfortable and the choice of vegetarian food was very limited.

As a family who live far away from Cheltenham, we are all very happy with the care that mum receives as a resident of Thirlestaine. She had made new friends and seems to be thriving. We feel confident about her health and her safety.

Over the years of visiting my mother-in-law, I have greatly appreciated the care she receives. The key to this has been the staff, who are exemplary and consistently go above and beyond. The one area where further improvement could be made for her is greater involvement in trips and outings. However the entertainment is excellent! Thanks for everything you do.

My mum has been a resident since June this year. From day one, all the staff have gone over and above to make her feel welcome and at home in this next chapter in her life. My sister and I are extremely satisfied with the way the home functions and the care our mum receives.

My mum came here after 4 weeks in hospital following a massive stroke. I had to make the decision on bringing her to be nearby me without having any chance to view. This has been an excellent experience in our circumstances.
Every one of the staff have shown care and compassion to both my mum and my family, throughout our unfortunately short stay here.
Nothing was too much trouble.

The rooms are well furnished, airy and spacious. Communal lounges are also well appointed.

My friend went into Thirlestaine Park for care and end of life. I can't tell you how impressed I was with her care. All the carers and nurses treated her professionally and with great dignity. I entered Thirlestaine Park Care Home in indifferent general health and slow-healing ulcers on both legs after bedrest for several weeks. I was impressed by the attention and kindness of all the cards, and the general cheerfulness of the whole house. Physio and support from the medical staff and carers led to my independence in nearly all personal care. I have also felt able to undertake gentle gardening which cheered my medical and mental health.

My experience at Thirlestaine Park Care Home has always been positive. The staff are friendly throughout the home. The carers are kind and attentive, admin staff and management are helpful and the housekeeping team ensure the home is kept clean and tidy at all times. The rooms are spacious, warm and welcoming. We are very pleased with the care my mother is receiving. The staff are caring and patient and do their best to meet Mum's complex needs. We are particularly pleased this year to see the improvements to the garden, which many of the residents enjoy, and the range of activities no available. Also, praise is due to the kitchen, cleaning and maintenance staff who do a great job and are friendly to the residents (and visitors!).

I visited a few care homes looking for a suitable one for my sister, who had a progressive lung disease. What struck me immediately about Thirlestaine was the welcoming feel of the place, and particularly the friendliness of the staff. This was confirmed the whole time my sister was there. She was well looked after and soon made friends with other residents with whom she enjoyed participation in meals and the daily activities on offer. Being on her own at home had become very difficult, and Thirlestaine provided company and care; it transformed her life. The handyman did a great job of hanging her many pictures the minute I delivered them, making her room seem more like home.
The nurses who looked after her were very caring, and there were support staff who would make the day seem better with smiles and laughter. I always felt that my sister was in good hands and that she was clearly content.

After she passed away, I felt sorry that I would have no cause to return to Thirlestaine!

Overall Experience

I would recommend this care home to anyone wanting to place their loved one into a friendly, respectful and vigilant environment. This was my first time experiencing a care home environment where my mum needed nursing respite. The high level of attention and care, the welcome we received and the home-from-home feeling, allowed me to not worry at all. The food was of a high quality and offered lots of choice. Two tiny things that would have made it exceptional would have been to have a wheelchair available at the entrance when I arrived with mum (coping with an extremely off-colour person, luggage and car parking by self was hard to navigate), however, one was found very quickly along with staff members who assisted! And the side rails on the bed were not fitted on the first night which meant mum slept in her chair - again quickly rectified early next morning. Mum came out rested, with renewed confidence. I wish an equivalent resource was available for carers to go to! Thank you, team.

The care at Thirlestaine Park is second to none. Our mum spent an extended respite stay there and her needs were complex due to advanced dementia. The care staff are highly skilled and showed great compassion and kindness, not just to mum but to all of us as a family. Mum can become very agitated and we saw how their approach to her enabled her to settle and feel calmer. They clearly promote independence and dignity in their residents.

From the first moment you enter to a warm welcome, through to all members of staff involved in the running of this beautiful home, you feel that you matter and they are always happy to help in any way they can.

The general atmosphere is calm and friendly The home environment is very clean, pleasantly decorated and well maintained. The food is well cooked with a thoughtful menu.

Placing a loved one into care is a huge and emotional decision and the care staff at Thirlestaine appreciate this and engender trust and confidence.

Dad came into Thirlestaine Park as a full-time resident in April this year after some respite care elsewhere. Although it took Dad a while to accept he had to be in care, once he settled into the routine and got to know everyone he is now very happy in his new home. The care he receives is wonderful, the staff are all so very friendly, and management, admin staff, carers, hosts, and cleaners, all make this care home a very welcoming and happy place to be. Dad is kept clean and tidy, his room is lovely and he is very comfortable, nothing is too much trouble. After we took Dad out for the day last Saturday, taking him back later in the afternoon, he said he felt like he was going home. This makes me so much more relaxed knowing he is so happy and well cared for, and I would have no hesitation in thoroughly recommending Thirlestaine Park.

We needed short-term respite care for my mother after a period of serious illness. Thirlestaine Park was welcoming, accommodating and took time to understand our needs. Everyone has been kind and supported my mother in settling, so much so that she has decided to stay permanently.
