I came to Thirlestaine Park Care Home after a "whole new knee operation" on the 12th of October. I have enjoyed my stay, the nurses were supportive and the food extremely good over my two-week visit. A friendly atmosphere, with a lovely garden to walk in.

After working as a senior staff nurse at a hospital for 27 years and being, due to ill health, retired, due to a rare brain condition with a DNR status in place; I can be objective in giving opinions from the aspect of senior nurse .... to a patient with a chronic life-shortening disease of the brain.
I
carefully chose my respite with family and carer and here I am, which is a beautiful, well run, friendly and homely place. I consider myself lucky to be here. The multidisciplinary team, from housemaids, to carers and managers, all work together putting individual and patient care first.
The staff are kind and really do care about the extremely high standard of care they deliver. Nothing is too much trouble and it is a home from home. I shall use on a regular basis if there is availability.

My stay here at Thirlestaine Park has been very therapeutic and extremely helpful.
I was in extreme pain on arrival and my welcome here was such that I was put at ease immediately.
The care given to me by both nursing staff and carers has been excellent at all times, I am now well enough to go home.
It
is a beautiful place and I would recommend to all those in need (and their families).
First class care and good food.

You have been caring for my Mum for the past 7 months and sadly my father was taken ill and he too came into Thirlestaine Park for the last 3 weeks of his life.
The care that he received was outstanding - the love and understanding were outstanding.
My siblings and I spent the last 3 days of his life
with him and without exception, every person working at Thirlestaine was professional, compassionate and caring to all of us.
Everyone went well beyond the call of duty.
We can't thank you enough.

I came to this home for a limited period for respite care after a back operation, although I am conscious that most of the residents, because of their needs, are there for longer term. During the first few days of my stay, I suffered a critical medical condition. The staff were excellent in their response
and ensured I was taken to the critical ward at hospital. One member of staff was very involved in this and I am very grateful for their care. Five days after I returned to the home as I was in a very anxious state. I received excellent support and encouragement to return to my own home.

My father was admitted following a diagnosis of myeloma. We knew the home very well as my mother had been a resident there for the past seven months. Her care has always been outstanding.
All members of staff, without exception, looked after our dad with professionalism, compassion, gentleness and
love - nothing was ever too much for them and they guaranteed his dignity and well being to the end.
He lasted just three weeks in the home but they made his life as easy and pain-free as was possible.
They were amazing with our entire family and so caring with our mum who outlives our dad.

I am pleased to have chosen Thirlestaine Park for my respite care following shoulder replacement surgery. Right from the moment I arrived the welcoming care was evident throughout my stay. All my needs were anticipated and taken care of by the efficient and cheerful staff. Nothing was too much trouble.
There is a good atmosphere in the home among the residents too. In all, it has been a good experience for me, and in many ways, I am sorry to say goodbye - for now anyway! Thank you to everyone.

My father came to Thirlestaine as he had high dependency nursing needs and I wanted somewhere who could care for him until the end. Like anyone I felt guilty about having to take this step but from my initial call, I could not have been more impressed by the professionalism of everyone involved. The
home is beautiful, clean, welcoming and the food is fantastic (and I ate enough of it myself there to vouch for this) - nothing was too much trouble to tempt dad's failing appetite. Visitors were welcomed, and his medical care was excellent, with regular GP visits, qualified nurses etc able to deal with all aspects. However the main thing was the excellence of the staff and towards the end of dad's life, I spent so many hours, day and night there, to be able to see that all staff were outstanding and some exceptional. They cared for my dad, and me, with dignity, compassion and kindness throughout. I had so much support when the end came. I'd recommend Thirlestaine to anyone unreservedly.

Difficult to put into a few words. The home is utterly beautiful, wonderful decor akin to a four-star hotel! - but more importantly a warm caring and loving atmosphere. Always spotlessly clean. All the Carers from the most junior to the most senior are caring and compassionate. The dining staff again
always so helpful to my darling mother (96!), who was blind and needed a lot of loving care, which she always got.
The entertainment and trips out always entertaining and interesting. I'm so sorry my mother was there for only 9 months. At least her final months were as comfortable as possible.

The first impression of this home is very clean and calm. Good atmosphere with very friendly, smiling professional staff. On inspection of the home, rooms, lounge, dining room etc it just gets better and better. The care received day and night by very caring staff could not be improved on. A bit of
thought was put into what I needed after my hip operation in my room. The drinks and meals are very good, tasty with various options. Visitors are made very welcome any time of day and asked if they would like a hot drink. I cannot praise this place enough!!

My aunt visited this home on a friend's recommendation. Previously my aunt had had two two week respite stays at other local care homes which she had no desire to return to. On her first visit, we were very impressed with the fresh, open and uplifting feel and liked the way we were received.
My aunt
readily agreed to stay for a fortnight, extending the time for a further two weeks in order to reach a decision about a permanent move.
During her four week stay my aunt was very content with the level and quality of care. She felt reassured by staff who spent extra time with her when she was low. She loved her bath, the food and book group and I enjoyed seeing her so comfortable and being able to easily discuss issues with staff. My aunt returned home and quickly decided on a date to return permanently. Sadly she died shortly before she was due to move in.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.655)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.655) out of 10 for Thirlestaine Park Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 14 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 14 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.805 for Thirlestaine Park Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (134 Excellents x 5) + (28 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 164 Ratings = 4.805
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.85 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Thirlestaine Park Care Home is based on 14 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.85
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 63 registered maximum number of service users is 12.6, which has been reached with 14 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
