My mother has been at the home for over five years. She is well cared for, the staff listen to her and get to know her likes and dislikes. They support her physically and mentally. She settled quickly and seems to feel at home.

My mother was a resident for about three months during the covid19 lockdown, which meant we couldn't visit. It is therefore impossible to give detailed comments.
My overriding impression is of the kindness of the staff, who seemed to be very caring and willing to go out of their way to be helpful.
My mother always commented on how kind they were. This was at a difficult time for care homes generally, with disruption owing to the pandemic and staff shortages because of the need for people with symptoms to self-isolate. For that reason, I think it is even more remarkable how goodtempered the staff were.

Thirlestaine Park Care Home accepted my mum with extremely short notice and did all within their power to help her adjust to an abrupt change of circumstances. The staff treated her with dignity and compassion and one member of staff, in particular, was outstanding at noticing when Mum appeared anxious
and giving reassurance. She was clearly well trained and highly knowledgeable about dementia care and made herself very available to give wider family support too.
The home was always extremely clean and comfortable, with fantastic food.
In the end stages of Mum's illness, Thirlestaine put themselves out to accept Mum back despite difficulties accommodating her on the nursing floor. The staff there were extremely empathetic and her end of life care was outstanding.

My mum went to Thirlestaine Park following a fall and two subsequent hospital admissions during the COVID-19 lockdown. This was a very worrying time for the family and the help we received from one member of staff to facilitate Mum’s transfer from hospital was outstanding. She could not have been
more helpful, patient and understanding and this gave us tremendous confidence that we were doing the right thing, particularly as we could not visit the home or meet staff beforehand. Mum settled in incredibly quickly and I cannot thank the staff enough for the kindness, empathy and care and attention they show Mum. In tremendously difficult circumstances due to the lockdown, they do an amazing job. All staff understand how difficult it is for residents and families not to be able to visit their loved ones and they really go the extra mile to help keep spirits up. It has been such a relief to know Mum is being so well looked after, a huge thank you to everyone at Thirlestaine Park.

I came to Thirlestaine Park Care Home on April 17 to convalesce after a 23 day stay in hospital. I had had emergency surgery for stomach cancer and was very weak. I have been most impressed by the quality of care I have received during the last 14 days and have nothing but praise for all the staff on
the first floor. They are patient, attentive, good-humoured and professional and helped in my recovery.

As a family, we were both impressed and reassured with the dementia and nursing care provided at Thirlestaine Park for our mother.
All of the staff, both nursing and management, showed excellent care and attention, which gave us a great deal of reassurance that Mum was being well looked after in the
final stages of her life.

My mother went in for seven weeks respite care as I was going away. For a long time, Mum has not coped but she could not see it herself, she had lost weight and was really struggling with day to day life. She went in Thirlestaine Care Home and came out a different person, she had put on a bit of much-needed
weight, her eyes were brighter and she had had such a fantastic time with all the activities. She has now agreed to move into assisted living which is such a relief to all the family and so much better for her. Thanks to all the staff at Thirlestaine Care Home.
Reply from Kim Mulford, Home Manager at Thirlestaine Park Care HomeThank you for your kind feedback - we are passionate about providing good care here so it's a pleasure to hear that your mum responded so well to her respite stay. My mother received excellent care at Thirlestaine Park. The rooms on the residential floor have plenty of space to accommodate a rise/recliner chair and facilitate the use of a walker and wheelchair. The staff treated my mother as an individual and respected her wishes. When it came to end of life care,
my mother was treated with dignity and the staff went out of their way to ensure she was as comfortable as possible.

One of the most difficult things a son or daughter will ever have to do is to put their parent into a care home - especially if the parent doesn't want to go. When Mum moved into Thirlestaine Park in July I was so worried, but I needn't have been - the staff were so attentive, caring and welcoming that
Mum settled quicker than I could believe was possible. Five months later, she is still very happy and loves the place and I can finally relax, knowing she is safe and well cared for.

The care at Thirlestaine Park Care Home helped my father through a very difficult time in his life with vascular dementia. The team were always very respectful with all aspects of dad's care. The activities team really helped dad engage with painting again.
The staff from managers to the maintenance
team, chefs and receptionists were always helpful and helped me personally, knowing that dad was in good hands.

I think that the quality and attitude of the staff at all levels are exceptional - they are cooperative, hard-working, polite and pleasant. The furnishing and furniture are very good, appropriate and well designed in both the bedrooms and public spaces. Great care goes into the menu selection to cater
for the differing requirements of the residents: the chef is one of the stars of the show. To those who are willing and able, there are plenty of opportunities to engage in group activities. If ever I need nursing care this is the place I would want to be in.

My mother was given a warm welcome from the moment she arrived. The staff are very caring, often go the extra mile and pay attention to detail, enabling my mother to feel happy and secure in her new home. Her room looks like home too with some of her furniture and pictures on the wall which were put
up as soon as she arrived.

I have only the highest praise for this relatively new care home in Cheltenham. The immaculate first impression of decor, design and functionality flow through to every well thought out detail. All staff and helpers I have met have been most professional. Their compassion of a situation shines through
and all have been cheery and welcoming over a somewhat stressful festive season. Thank you all so much.

My mum came to Thirlestaine Park Care Home for the last few months of her life. She had a room in the residential part initially (which she loved) and moved to the nursing floor for the last two to three weeks.
Choosing Thirlestaine Park was absolutely the right decision - Mum was so happy there.
All the staff were so friendly and caring, the food was delicious and the rooms were kept spotlessly clean and fresh.
Nothing was ever too much trouble for the staff. I would recommend this home to anyone looking for the best possible care for their loved ones.

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.655) out of 10 for Thirlestaine Park Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 14 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 14 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.805 for Thirlestaine Park Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (134 Excellents x 5) + (28 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 164 Ratings = 4.805
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.85 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Thirlestaine Park Care Home is based on 14 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.85
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 63 registered maximum number of service users is 12.6, which has been reached with 14 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
