My friend of sixty years has recently taken up residence in Thirlestaine Park Care Home. I have visited him on several occasions in the last two months and found the staff courteous and helpful. We had a particularly good experience on his birthday when friends and family joined him for an excellent
birthday lunch in a private dining room. In response to family requests, he has recently moved to a different room and seems to be content and well cared for. Thank you for looking after my friend.
Reply from Debbie Williams, Home Manager at Thirlestaine Park Care HomeThank you for taking the time to review Thirlestaine Park. It's great to hear such positive comments which I will ensure are passed on to the rest of the team. Best wishes, Debbie.

Choosing a care home for a loved one is a really difficult thing to do, but I found the honesty and sincerity of the Client Services Manager at Thirlestaine Park Care Home helped me enormously. After a recent severe stroke, Dad has only moved into Thirlestaine Park Care Home in the last few weeks, but
I have been amazed and reassured by the wonderful welcome and care he has received from all the staff. Nothing seems to be too much trouble and the staff take time with him, treating him with respect and dignity.
Dad says that the food is outstanding and was thrilled when the chef came and asked him to suggest some dishes to include on the menu. He has already gained some much-needed weight! He enjoys joining in with the numerous activities on offer and, despite his deafness, feels included in whatever is taking place.
To all the team at Thirlestaine Park Care Home, an enormous thank you from Dad and I.

What a wonderful place. More like a 5* hotel than a care home. My father-in-law chose this home as it was close to where he lived, so his friends could come and visit easily. He is 95, and with an intact mind, but failing body, he could not have made a better choice.
We were welcomed at the end of
lockdown, and the staff could not have made it easier for us. Any questions have been answered quickly and professionally, and nothing is too much bother. My father-in-law even has his favourite wines to chose from with his evening meal.
Thank you to all the staff for making this transition as easy as it could be.

My father has dementia and has been a resident at Thirlestaine Park since December 2020. Unfortunately, due to COVID restrictions, we haven’t been able to visit the home or get to know the care home staff as much as we would have liked. However, our experience so far has been that all our questions
and concerns have been addressed promptly and sympathetically, and we like and are impressed with everyone that we have been in contact with.

I have just visited my uncle for the first time at Thirlstaine. It is beautifully clean and well maintained, and I was agreeably surprised by the generous size of my uncle’s room and wet room. The staff have made a real effort to make it his own by hanging his pictures and arranging his own furniture
comfortably. The staff I met during my visit were extremely helpful and very friendly. They treated my uncle with great respect and kindness, and as I live a long distance away, it is a great weight off my mind knowing that he is being so well cared for in such a lovely environment.

My grandmother has been in Thirlestaine Park for respite care for the past week, and I have been extremely impressed with the home and the care she has received. The home itself is fabulous, spotlessly clean and done to a very high standard. The care is amazing; she assured me she has been very well
looked after by very kind and polite carers. They walk her to the restaurant every day, which she appreciates as her sight is not good and help her with all her needs such as showering. I was so impressed with the manager, who I found to be very professional and always there to help if we had any questions. I will definitely be using this home again in the future.

During the COVID-19 lockdown, the care that my mother received has been exemplary.
The staff have been a “stand-in” family for Mum while we as a family were unable to see her.
A big thanks to all the staff at Thirlstaine.

My mother spent two weeks in respite care at Thirlestaine nursing home in March 2021. The admission procedure was simple and welcoming due to the efficiency of the client service manager, who couldn't do enough to make every effort to accommodate my mother's needs on arrival day. The staff were all
very friendly and willing but lacked some basic training, which showed in their handling of certain day-to-day care such as helping with the morning shower and dressing.
The food was excellent, and the home very clean. My mother enjoyed group activities such as the quiz, and the general atmosphere of the home, which was calm and peaceful.
Overall, my mother enjoyed her stay and would definitely return for respite care.

My mum has been at the home for many years and has received excellent care in her time there. The best thing about the home is the staff; they are wonderful, professionals who get to know the residents and take great care of them. The facilities are also great with a living room, dining areas and a
lovely garden as well as various organised activities.

My mother was one of the first residents to Thirlestaine, so it is now six years on. She has been very happy there the whole time. She considers it her home and has never thought back to her old life. The facilities and environment are of a very high standard, and the staff have constantly been exceptional.
Difficult to fault really, and I would have no hesitation in recommending this home to anyone needing this level of care. Best wishes.

Mum moved into the care home in between the lockdowns. Communication has been very good as visiting was restricted and it was difficult for me to gauge how she was settling in. There has only been one relatively short period when Mum was in isolation in the home. The home has allowed me to visit using
PPE and in the visiting room, but also I had precious visits to her room when Mum was refusing to get out of bed! The staff have never made me feel they are stretched staff wise, and at all times, professional and caring. I too have felt cared for regarding my concerns over Mums health. They’ve given me time in person, on the phone or via email when I have raised concerns, and indeed my other 4 siblings too! I’ve missed getting to know the carers and other residents, and it's been a learning kerb for me to trust them with my mum. Hopefully, as lockdown lifts, I can become more involved. The following section is difficult to answer as I have not been in enough to assess for myself.

My husband has been in Thirlestaine Park for six months now, suffering from Lewy Body Dementia and blindness. He is also bedridden.
But thanks to the care and affection the staff seem to have for him, he is now stable and apparently happy. He was a highly intelligent man and would have been appalled
to think he could be like this. But he appears to be becoming more and more lucid. He can joke with the carers, and they with him, which he understands. Above all, he loves the food and can't get enough of it; copious picnics I bring with me too. He looks well physically and appears to be filling out. He had lost a huge amount of weight after an accident he had.
Perhaps the proof of his contentment is that on Friday, the first day we were allowed in after lockdown restrictions, six weeks ago, he actually asked if we could renew our marriage vows again! What joy it has created for us all. Perhaps a sign that Thirlestaine Park is doing a great job! Thank you to you all!

Thirlestaine care home and all the staff have been helpful and friendly from the day my mother was admitted following a severe stroke. It is a testimony to their skill and patience that she has made a remarkable recovery and can look forward to returning to her own flat in the near future.
There have
been added pressures on the home and family due to the pandemic, and the restrictions this imposed, but again, the management has gone out of its way to accommodate all our needs as much as was possible. Together with my extended family, I am extremely grateful.

We were met on arrival and had full attention given to us. Members of staff remembered his name and spoke to him. I have had contact with the Manager to tell me how my husband is settling in. The staff were very polite and friendly. Due to Covid restrictions, I was not allowed in, so further comments
were "from the foyer".

My dad was in Thirlestaine Park for a couple of weeks during August 2020 to give my mum a break from her caring responsibilities. We picked this home as my dad has dementia and this is listed as one of the home’s specialisms. Everyone that we spoke to seemed knowledgeable about his condition and that
was very reassuring when you are entrusting them with a loved one. The home itself is very modern and clean and the building is purpose-built for caring with large spacious rooms and en-suite bathrooms. The staff at the home are all incredibly helpful and nothing seemed to be too much trouble for them and I felt that my dad was looked after very well. I was also reassured by the anti-COVID measures that they have in place and PPE is available for all visitors. Unfortunately, COVID has meant that the number of visits has had to be restricted but the staff went out of their way to ensure that we were able to see my dad at least a couple of times during his stay.

I’m happy with the care my mother receives. There are a few improvements I would make, a mixed dining room is a great idea but for those residents who are able to feed themselves adequately, watching people spit and struggle is off-putting, so much so that my mother chooses to eat in her room.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.655)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.655) out of 10 for Thirlestaine Park Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 14 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 14 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.805 for Thirlestaine Park Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (134 Excellents x 5) + (28 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 164 Ratings = 4.805
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.85 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Thirlestaine Park Care Home is based on 14 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.85
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 63 registered maximum number of service users is 12.6, which has been reached with 14 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
