My mother always stated firmly that she never wanted to go into a home. However, a fall and subsequent hospital stay left her too weak to go home, her Alzheimers had gone into overdrive and respite care was required.

Barchester Tennyson Wharf offered amazing space, with large private, ensuite bedrooms, spacious lounges and wide corridors. My mother was used to her own company and privacy and did not want to feel 'packed in'.

The quality of the menu, food freshly cooked on the premises and a remarkable variety of choices

Sufficient staff (mostly permanent) treated the residents with genuine kindness and dignity

The convenience of location - means no traffic problems shortening the time available to visit.

After a few days, my mother relaxed, clearly enjoying herself; much to her surprise. The superb food, leisurely meal times during which staff encouraged conversation and interaction. The consistent level of care and attention given to all completely won her over. We strongly recommend this home.

On arrival, you feel you have entered a 5-star hotel. It does not feel like a care home which is important to a new resident who is afraid of staying in a home. The level of care, the most important, is first class. The standards of accommodation and facilities support the high standard of care. Would I want to stay there? Yes!

My mother had a short stay receiving the best palliative care anyone could wish for. Excellent nursing, treated with dignity, compassion and dare I say 'love'.

The care also extended to all the family. All I can say is thank you. Our mum's last days were as perfect as we could hope for given how poorly she was.

Respite care for mum-in-law after a hospital visit (due to a fall).
The staff are always smiling, courteous and treated both mum-in-law and family with tolerance and understanding.

Facilities and surroundings fabulous, food excellent and a "can-do" attitude made her stay easier for all concerned a reluctant resident she was sad to leave.

I have the pleasure of visiting one of your residents on a weekly basis and also a couple of other friends who were staying with you for a week to recover from an operation.

My personal experience was and is very positive. My friends are always in a happy mood and this reflects how comfortable they are. I love the friendly atmosphere I feel in every visit and also to see other residents having fun with activities for their ability.

Sadly Tennyson Wharf is very smart but doesn't quite deliver. My father complained of being cold overnight and decided to combat the problem by keeping his clothes on. Why wasn't this solved by turning up the heating and/or using more bedding? We tried ringing him and were told he'd phone back - it never happened. There was more but the above demonstrates the problem.

If all care were as good as this there would never be any bed blocking again. My wife spent her last days at Tennyson Wharf and I could not praise the staff highly enough. From the boss to the domestic staff they were all superb. They all offered to help and were always pleasant and cheerful.

Pricey but worth every penny.

Tennyson Wharf is an extremely good care home that benefits from an outstanding location by the Birton Waters. The care staff are very friendly and as a visitor, on a regular basis (3-4 times a week) I have been made to feel like one of the family. Sadly Mum doesn't take advantage of the many activities offered but she is treated with dignity and endless patience by those caring for her.

The care home is expensive, sometimes there don't seem to be enough staff to justify the money. But all staff are without exception friendly and competent.
Occasionally messages don't get passed on, e.g. about taking residents out.
Sometimes the cleanliness of the bathroom and bedroom are not quite up to standard.
Activities staff do their best, perhaps not always tailoring to individual residents competencies and wishes. More trips out would be good.

Overall the home has a good atmosphere.

Since moving my client to Tennyson Wharf Care Home I've noticed a marked change in her mood and health. The care staff are always on hand and regularly check if she needs anything. The choice of activities are brilliant to keep her engaged. My only concern is that often other residents enter her room without asking.

I came here for two weeks respite care, following the death of my husband and dealing with all of the inevitable paperwork.

It has been a peaceful and happy break.

The staff are pleasant and helpful and as I am not just old, but ancient, makes life more of a pleasure.

The home is very clean and modern, most of the staff are friendly but sorry so many have left.

All rooms are large and very comfortable and most of the meals look very good.

The only thing is the price - very expensive.

Since my mother's admission (22 months ago) she has been cared for extremely well. The staff are professional and very caring. They are also very helpful and informative when I have needed any up dates regarding my mother's health and care. The building is very well maintained, always very clean and welcoming.

Above and beyond my/the family's expectations since mum became a resident earlier in the year.
It could easily be compared to a 5-star hotel with full board and assisted service.

Why can't the rest of the care industry aspire for an equivalent standard to give everyone in this situation the quality of life they deserve.

All the staff at Tennyson Wharf are kind, compassionate, amiable and supportive. Every effort is made to ensure the dignity and safety of residents. Care of a dearly loved husband could never be the same as if he were still at home looked after and cared for by loving family but this must be the very best next thing. The staff and management are at pains to support both the residents and the family and I'm assured it will become my second home too.
