Mountfitchet House is a purpose-built care home set within the Essex countryside. The skilled team deliver residential, nursing and dementia care, as well as respite and sensitive end of life care.

Residents enjoy a great lifestyle thanks to the luxury facilities, including a café, pub, cinema room and hair salon. The home is divided into four suites, each with its own lounge and dining room. The bedrooms are spacious with a private ensuite bathroom, and outside there are beautiful, landscaped gardens – perfect for residents to relax in.

Located in a small village near Stansted, the home has great links to major motorways and a regular train service to London and Cambridge. Fees are subject to a pre-admission needs assessment which is required to fully understand the level
of care and support required by each individual. Premium rooms normally require an additional charge.

Please note, the weekly fee does not include hairdressing, chiropody or other healthcare visits or

other privately arranged healthcare. Should you require an escort to hospital appointments, we may apply
an agreed hourly charge for this service.

Since my nan went into Mountfitchet House she has been so settled and so happy. The staff make so much effort to play games, motivate them, keep their minds stimulated, and do activities with them. The staff are friendly and show a genuine interest of care towards residents and our overall experience

This is a very well managed home with well-trained staff who care for my sister with dignity. Throughout the pandemic, they have made every effort to facilitate contact with family. The accommodation is modern and well-appointed, and the security, although not really relevant in my sisters care is very
good. My sister had previously been in another care home where the care was not of the standard of Stansted Mountfitchet.

Mountfitchet House is an outstanding care home with staff who really care. My mother was there for 7 weeks and I could not fault the home in any way. I have been to many care homes in my professional life and personally and this home is right up there. Clean, nice rooms, very caring staff, good communication
with family. I would recommend this place without reservation.

My husband was admitted to Mountfitchet House on the twenty fifth of March. He had had an extremely difficult and distressing six weeks in hospital. I had already formed a very good relationship with Mountfitchet House for several months, in case my husband needed respite care in the future. When my
husband needed what amounted to an emergency admission, the staff bent over backwards to facilitate this in every way. They were presented with a difficult situation but immediately started dealing with it. From the moment he arrived he was welcomed with open arms. The communication has been excellent. I have already thanked everybody for their kindness, care and have said how much it means to my husband and all our family. It has made all the difference. Everyone I speak to gives Mountfitchet House glowing reports. We are full of gratitude and will recommend it whenever we have the opportunity.

My mother has been a resident for nearly 4 years. We have been very pleased with the care provided.
She has taken great pleasure from the gardens ,which are beautifully presented. She particularly likes the brightly painted seat with her name on it. Obviously visiting has been challenging over the
last year but wherever possible the lovely team on St Mary’s have enabled window visits and video calls. This gives us a feeling of her life and how she is. It is reassuring to see that she is happy and content.

Staff at Mountfitchet House have been infinitely kind and caring towards my sister who has moved into the nursing wing.
It has been a big upheaval for her and the nursing team are working hard to help her come to terms with it emotionally, as well as providing excellent nursing for her complex physical
needs. 
Above all, they seem to make time to talk and provide reassurance and to make sure that those little – but so important – things like hair styling are done.
I am very appreciative of the fact that the staff and the nursing team have all kept me up to date and have been friendly and easy to contact by phone when I’ve had any concerns. 
The same is true of the customer relations manager, the overall home manager, who truly ‘went the extra mile’ by helping me to fill in a complex 37-page disability benefits form.
My sister has only been in Mountfitchet House for a month, but I believe it's the best choice I could have made for her.

We have had a very positive experience with every staff member we have spoken to at Mountfitchet House, but more than this Mum has looked (as we have not been able to visit her due to Covid restrictions) every content and has told us that she is very happy with her care - we couldn't ask for more at
this time. Mum's health has been very poor for some time, but has definitely improved over the few months she has been at Mountfitchet House.
We receive a call fortnightly to discuss Mum's ongoing condition, her medication and any other medical issues that need to be addressed. Should Mum become ill we receive a call straight away to inform us what has happened and if necessary we can visit if it is felt that it would benefit Mum.
Should we have any questions regarding the facilities their Customer Relations Manager is quick to respond and has been a great help to us understanding what is possible regarding care and what is happening with Mum.

We experienced yet another example of unparalleled care and kindness this week. Our dear Mum was taken poorly just before 8 pm and had to be seen by the paramedics and then taken to hospital. The lovely team leader of Guernon stayed with Mum for 2 1/hours after her shift ended as Mum was concerned and
of course we were not allowed to go to be with her. She was back at the home at 8am and on the phone to the hospital to check on mum having not left until after 10.30pm. As a family, we are overwhelmed by the kindness and care - if we are not allowed to be there with Mum; she couldn’t be receiving better care. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

We have had a great experience with the home for my mum over the last 4-years. The care team have done a great job in helping mum, looking after her, and treating her with dignity and individuality. There are many loving carers on the team, and we are so glad we picked Mountfitchet House as the place
where my mum could live out her final years. We were particularly touched by the attentiveness, care, thoughtfulness and going beyond the call of duty that we saw in my mum's final days. That was a great help and made the pain easier to bear, to know that there were loving folks around our mum at the end.

My mum's carers have been almost universally calm and positive when assisting her, which can be difficult.
The home has made every effort to maintain communication with the family both through their Facebook page and facilitating electronic face to face conversations.
She has been given haircuts as
one of the carers have that skill and her nails are regularly painted; she looks amazing - way better than me!
Everybody I have spoken to has been helpful and enthusiastic.
Residents have been assisted to go outside to join in the "clap for carers", this gave Mum some sense of being in the community.
I am very impressed at the care and patience of all the staff, they can't wave a magic wand, but they do try everything in their armoury to engage and lift the spirits of Mum and all the residents.

My recently bereaved mother went into Mountfitchet House at a most difficult time, immediately before the coronavirus lockdown. We have been unable to visit her in person since, although the home has kindly arranged video calls and we see her from time to time through her window. Mum assures me that
she is very well cared for and treated with kindness. She likes the meals and loves the puddings! She always looks neat and well groomed and her room is immaculately clean and tidy - the maintenance staff took considerable trouble in setting up her room with her pictures and photographs to make it look homely and familiar. It is reassuring to see her growing rapport with the care staff, who have shown compassion and dedication throughout these most unsettling times for which we are very grateful. Although it is currently challenging for the home to have activities as normal, we hope that things will gradually return to a new normal and that we will soon be reunited.

Our Mother lived here for 4 years before we decided, we looked at 6 recommended homes. What we particularly liked at Mountfitchet House was that it was conceived and designed as a purpose-built care home - and whilst it has 60 odd rooms, it’s broken up into 4 self-contained sections effectively built
in an L with the nurse stations and dining and living rooms in the centre. Whilst others were delightful old buildings they had not been built as care homes and had steps, different levels etc. Whilst every home had lovely people that we saw, in the end, that element is taken on trust. In our experience, Mountfitchet House delivered consistently high care to Mum in a professional and friendly way. Mum was a quiet, private person, the staff quickly adjusted to her way and she always talked fondly about her carers ( and the cleanliness, Mum was always known as the Ajax tornado) They were fantastic in the last days of mum’s life, made more difficult by us living abroad. On a 5* rating, I would give them a 6*

All the staff at the home have been so helpful during the lockdown period. They have all gone above and beyond to help us stay in contact with our nana who’s living in the home. We haven’t had to worry because they have allowed us to FaceTime her twice a week and they’ve kept us updated all the time.
She’s really settled in and is happy in the home now and it’s down to the kindness of all the carers and other staff members. We appreciate everything they have done and we can’t thank them all enough for their care. Hopefully, when lockdown lifts we can have a celebration in the home and gather to thank the staff properly!

Mum has been very happy in Mountfitchet House. She feels cared for and has loved having her meals provided for her. She has developed close working relationships with several members of staff and 2 or 3 other residents. She and her family enjoy the cafeteria area and also the gardens. The handyman is
a real asset and will do anything for her. On the downside, the fees are high and it would be good if the activities could become more structured and reliable.

We moved mother from another care home as we were worried about safety, care and stimulation.
All of the above have been excellent and we have been delighted with the home. The staff are compassionate and skilled. This is a happy home full of love, care and consideration.

For both my mother and my great aunt, who are residents in Mountfitchet House, their care has been consistent with a very high standard. That care is always delivered with kindness and compassion with dignity and utmost professionalism.
Whenever any of my peers ask me about the home, I always, without

Due to unforeseen circumstances, my sister and I had to move our dear mum from her nursing home of five years. We moved her to Mountfitchet House. Although she was in the later stages of Alzheimer's, Mum was made to feel special. The care she received was exceptional right to the end of her life. She
died peacefully with her family around her. We are grateful for the dignity they gave her and the support they gave us.

Job Title: Home Manager

I started my career as a healthcare assistant before training and qualifying as a nurse. That was 24 years ago, and, since then, I’ve worked in the NHS and in the private sector. I’ve worked in many different areas of nursing, from paediatric intensive care to end of life and dementia care, and also in management.


I joined Care UK because I wanted to bring my skills and experience to benefit an exciting and forward-thinking care organisation. I love the idea, at the heart of Care UK’s ethos, of fulfilling residents’ lives. I think it’s something everyone can understand and get behind. It motivates the entire team, whatever role they do.


The best part of my role is seeing residents happy and satisfied, and seeing my team’s pride in the way they help others to live happy lives and achieve their wishes.


Away from work I enjoy all sorts of things from holidays and sightseeing, to gardening, baking, watching sports, and going to the theatre, art galleries and museums.
