My Mum came here originally for respite but has now decided to stay full time. She has early stages of dementia and mobility is poor. Since she has been cared for here, had regular drugs and regular food, coupled with a high level of care she is physically better than she has been for years. The care
she receives is made personal to her needs and is of a high standard from some lovely compassionate carers. The team here do all they can and more to ensure care is carried out with dignity and try and stimulate the patients as best they can. The home is immaculate and has a lovely feel about it.

I have found the home to be very clean. My dad has had the very best of care - but I do think sometimes, this is lacking at the weekend, when agency staff are on duty. When he needs one-to-one care, it always seems to be in place. Overall, I am very happy with this care home.
Reply from Samantha Debenham, Marketing Support Administrator at Mountfitchet HouseThank you very much for your comments Sandra. We’re grateful for the feedback and delighted that you are pleased with the cleanliness of the home and standard of care your dad receives. With regards to staffing levels, I would like to assure you that we do a full dependency analysis for each resident, which is used to plan staff deployment accordingly throughout the week, 24 hours a day. This is to ensure that the care is safe and appropriate for each resident’s needs. We take your concerns and feedback seriously and would like to thank you for sharing your views.

I have been visiting a friend once a week for the last year and a half. I've visited a few care homes before and so far this is the nicest home I've visited. I would be comfortable recommending Mountfitchet House to anyone and would also be happy to stay there myself should the need arise.

My sister suffers from dementia, her general health deteriorated as she was not looking after herself and losing weight through not eating or drinking. The care she receives has turned things around. She has gained weight and is much happier, enjoying being with people and not feeling lonely. The staff
treat residents with respect, maintaining their dignity despite dementia. The activity organiser helps to maintain normal activities eg. going to a garden centre or a pub, as well as activities based in the care home.

My family have found the care home very nice - warm and comfortable, the staff are caring and helpful. My husband and I celebrated our Diamond 60th Wedding Anniversary on the 27th of October. The care home provided the accommodation for a family party. My daughters arranged with the chef the food etc
and we all had a very lovely time. I personally don't know what the cost was, but everything was most satisfactory. Obviously, mistakes have been made at times, but the standard of care etc is good and my husband is happy.

Mountfitchet House is a bright, airy and well-equipped home, where my father received excellent care for the last months of his life. During this time his needs were met sensitively, with a smile, time for a joke and a chat when he was able and most importantly he was always treated with dignity and
respect. His friends and family were always welcomed at whatever time we visited and kept well informed as to his day to day condition. During the last few difficult days, we received caring support and comfort from all staff and when we needed to leave his bedside we could do it with confidence that he was being well looked after and he was in fact rarely left alone. The staff selected music from his collection for him to listen to and even spent time sitting and reading to him. I cannot fault the care that Dad received at Mountfitchet House and will always feel grateful that he spent his final weeks in such a caring, supportive environment.

We, as a family, who visit regularly find that the home is very welcoming clean and family orientated. There are always the extra little touches. My husband is completely dependent on the staff for everything. One example he does love music and being bedridden they even arranged for the gentleman who
was giving the residents a concert to visit my husband in his room and play for him personally so touching. The medical care is excellent too. We would definitely recommend this home.

My dad is in Burnells section he is 95 years old, has macular degeneration of both eyes, dementia and incontinent. I have looked after him for 12 years. It was very hard to place him in a nursing home but they were wonderful, caring and knew how difficult it is to let go. They visit him daily, talk
to him and gave him a lovely birthday. I cannot praise them enough. My dad is very lucky to be in such a caring facility.

The care was excellent and my husband enjoyed the food. Unfortunately my husband was 6ft tall and had long legs so the bed was a bit too short for him. I would recommend two or three longer beds or adaptable beds which could be used.

From the very first moment we felt that my mum would be cared for in here and when she moved in, it actually was just that. My mum has been very well cared for from the beginning and every day since. I am very happy about all the care she has received and is still receiving.

My dad was admitted directly from the hospital with very nasty bed sores which had been allowed to fester. On arrival at Mountfitchet House he was immediately assessed and a treatment plan put in place. The care, compassion and kindness show to him (and me) have been so comforting. The staff were very
informative and very willing to explain and answer any questions. We will be forever grateful for all their love and kindness shown to us as a family. Thank you for this opportunity to thank you this way.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.764)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.764) out of 10 for Mountfitchet House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 29 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 28 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.764 for Mountfitchet House is calculated as follows: ( (271 Excellents x 5) + (56 Goods x 4) + (12 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 339 Ratings = 4.764
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Mountfitchet House is based on 28 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 60 registered maximum number of service users is 12, which has been reached with 28 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager

I started my career as a healthcare assistant before training and qualifying as a nurse. That was 24 years ago, and, since then, I’ve worked in the NHS and in the private sector. I’ve worked in many different areas of nursing, from paediatric intensive care to end of life and dementia care, and also in management.

I joined Care UK because I wanted to bring my skills and experience to benefit an exciting and forward-thinking care organisation. I love the idea, at the heart of Care UK’s ethos, of fulfilling residents’ lives. I think it’s something everyone can understand and get behind. It motivates the entire team, whatever role they do.

The best part of my role is seeing residents happy and satisfied, and seeing my team’s pride in the way they help others to live happy lives and achieve their wishes.

Away from work I enjoy all sorts of things from holidays and sightseeing, to gardening, baking, watching sports, and going to the theatre, art galleries and museums.
