Review from C K (Sister of Resident) published on 21 December 2020 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience
Staff at Mountfitchet House have been infinitely kind and caring towards my sister who has moved into the nursing wing.
It has been a big upheaval for her and the nursing team are working hard to help her come to terms with it emotionally, as well as providing excellent nursing for her complex physical needs.
Above all, they seem to make time to talk and provide reassurance and to make sure that those little – but so important – things like hair styling are done.
I am very appreciative of the fact that the staff and the nursing team have all kept me up to date and have been friendly and easy to contact by phone when I’ve had any concerns.
The same is true of the customer relations manager, the overall home manager, who truly ‘went the extra mile’ by helping me to fill in a complex 37-page disability benefits form.

My sister has only been in Mountfitchet House for a month, but I believe it's the best choice I could have made for her.

Reply from Laura Cook, Customer Relations Manager at Mountfitchet House

Thank you for such wonderful feedback, we really appreciate the time taken to leave us a review. Although a big upheaval for her, your sister has done so well to settle in so quickly and we have enjoyed supporting her and the family, throughout the move.

We have had a very positive experience with every staff member we have spoken to at Mountfitchet House, but more than this Mum has looked (as we have not been able to visit her due to Covid restrictions) every content and has told us that she is very happy with her care - we couldn't ask for more at this time. Mum's health has been very poor for some time, but has definitely improved over the few months she has been at Mountfitchet House.
We receive a call fortnightly to discuss Mum's ongoing condition, her medication and any other medical issues that need to be addressed. Should Mum become ill we receive a call straight away to inform us what has happened and if necessary we can visit if it is felt that it would benefit Mum.
Should we have any questions regarding the facilities their Customer Relations Manager is quick to respond and has been a great help to us understanding what is possible regarding care and what is happening with Mum.

Thank you to all staff.

We experienced yet another example of unparalleled care and kindness this week. Our dear Mum was taken poorly just before 8 pm and had to be seen by the paramedics and then taken to hospital. The lovely team leader of Guernon stayed with Mum for 2 1/hours after her shift ended as Mum was concerned and of course we were not allowed to go to be with her. She was back at the home at 8am and on the phone to the hospital to check on mum having not left until after 10.30pm. As a family, we are overwhelmed by the kindness and care - if we are not allowed to be there with Mum; she couldn’t be receiving better care. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

We have had a great experience with the home for my mum over the last 4-years. The care team have done a great job in helping mum, looking after her, and treating her with dignity and individuality. There are many loving carers on the team, and we are so glad we picked Mountfitchet House as the place where my mum could live out her final years. We were particularly touched by the attentiveness, care, thoughtfulness and going beyond the call of duty that we saw in my mum's final days. That was a great help and made the pain easier to bear, to know that there were loving folks around our mum at the end.

Thank you so much, team...

Overall Experience
My mum's carers have been almost universally calm and positive when assisting her, which can be difficult.
The home has made every effort to maintain communication with the family both through their Facebook page and facilitating electronic face to face conversations.
She has been given haircuts as one of the carers have that skill and her nails are regularly painted; she looks amazing - way better than me!
Everybody I have spoken to has been helpful and enthusiastic.
Residents have been assisted to go outside to join in the "clap for carers", this gave Mum some sense of being in the community.

I am very impressed at the care and patience of all the staff, they can't wave a magic wand, but they do try everything in their armoury to engage and lift the spirits of Mum and all the residents.

Thank you for your lovely review Jacqui, I'm glad you're happy with the care we've been giving Mum throughout the pandemic! We're very fond of Mum and continue to laugh with her daily - she's even walking to our cafe to meet with the staff for coffee now!

My recently bereaved mother went into Mountfitchet House at a most difficult time, immediately before the coronavirus lockdown. We have been unable to visit her in person since, although the home has kindly arranged video calls and we see her from time to time through her window. Mum assures me that she is very well cared for and treated with kindness. She likes the meals and loves the puddings! She always looks neat and well groomed and her room is immaculately clean and tidy - the maintenance staff took considerable trouble in setting up her room with her pictures and photographs to make it look homely and familiar. It is reassuring to see her growing rapport with the care staff, who have shown compassion and dedication throughout these most unsettling times for which we are very grateful. Although it is currently challenging for the home to have activities as normal, we hope that things will gradually return to a new normal and that we will soon be reunited.

Reply from Laura Cook, Customer Relations Manager at Mountfitchet House

Overall Experience

Our Mother lived here for 4 years before we decided, we looked at 6 recommended homes. What we particularly liked at Mountfitchet House was that it was conceived and designed as a purpose-built care home - and whilst it has 60 odd rooms, it’s broken up into 4 self-contained sections effectively built in an L with the nurse stations and dining and living rooms in the centre. Whilst others were delightful old buildings they had not been built as care homes and had steps, different levels etc. Whilst every home had lovely people that we saw, in the end, that element is taken on trust. In our experience, Mountfitchet House delivered consistently high care to Mum in a professional and friendly way. Mum was a quiet, private person, the staff quickly adjusted to her way and she always talked fondly about her carers ( and the cleanliness, Mum was always known as the Ajax tornado) They were fantastic in the last days of mum’s life, made more difficult by us living abroad. On a 5* rating, I would give them a 6*

All the staff at the home have been so helpful during the lockdown period. They have all gone above and beyond to help us stay in contact with our nana who’s living in the home. We haven’t had to worry because they have allowed us to FaceTime her twice a week and they’ve kept us updated all the time. She’s really settled in and is happy in the home now and it’s down to the kindness of all the carers and other staff members. We appreciate everything they have done and we can’t thank them all enough for their care. Hopefully, when lockdown lifts we can have a celebration in the home and gather to thank the staff properly!

We're all so fond of her and she is already such a big part of the Mountfitchet family! Mum has been very happy in Mountfitchet House. She feels cared for and has loved having her meals provided for her. She has developed close working relationships with several members of staff and 2 or 3 other residents. She and her family enjoy the cafeteria area and also the gardens. The handyman is a real asset and will do anything for her. On the downside, the fees are high and it would be good if the activities could become more structured and reliable.

For both my mother and my great aunt, who are residents in Mountfitchet House, their care has been consistent with a very high standard. That care is always delivered with kindness and compassion with dignity and utmost professionalism.
Whenever any of my peers ask me about the home, I always, without hesitation, give it my highest recommendations.

The manager sets the caring ethos and this filters down throughout all her team.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, my sister and I had to move our dear mum from her nursing home of five years. We moved her to Mountfitchet House. Although she was in the later stages of Alzheimer's, Mum was made to feel special. The care she received was exceptional right to the end of her life. She died peacefully with her family around her. We are grateful for the dignity they gave her and the support they gave us.

Our family needed to find a nursing home that provided palliative care for our sister/mother. We were worried about her fitting in when most other residents were 20+ years older than her. The rooms are clean, fresh, bright and well-equipped. The care provided by Mountfitchet House is exemplary. Everyone is treated as an individual and the staff are the most attentive, caring people you could wish for. We could not have wished for a better place for my sister to spend the last 6 weeks of her life.

When visiting a lifelong friend, I have been watching and been involved in recent activity. The team at Mountfitchet are taking the residents on a virtual cruise.
Everyone is involved and really enjoying it. Staff are dressing up to represent the countries and everyone looks like they are having fun.
Also popped into the fete, great day.

My mother is 96, has dementia, poor hearing and very limited sight so communication is very difficult. Following the fete at Mountfitchet House last Saturday, the next day I found my mother in a profoundly animated and happy state. She remembered all the little children, balloons and brass band. She repeatedly said how wonderful her day had been. She then went on to recall happy times beside the sea with our family and dancing with my father. It was truly a breakthrough and a tribute to the care staff who must have got her involved and to everyone who put together such a great day - thank you all so very much!

My mother in law was fortunate to be accommodated for a short period of palliative care at Mountfitchet House. Every single member of staff looked after her so well. They were kind, respectful and went above and beyond to make her last few weeks the best it could be. They also looked after us and her husband, feeding us too!

Mountfitchet House care home has completely changed my opinion of care homes. The love, attention, care and support it not only displays to my mother on a daily basis but our entire family, makes an otherwise painful heartbreaking experience just that bit easier.

I know when I walk out those doors after visiting my heart feels happier knowing she is being genuinely well loved and cared for in my absence. I could not ask for any more for my darling mummy. Thank you to every one of you for all that you do for us all. I will forever hold a special place in our hearts and if my mum could tell you also in hers.
