Reviews

8.2 The Ashton Care Home has a Review Score of 8.2 (8.185)

The Review Score of 8.2 (maximum of 10) for The Ashton Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 17 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for The Ashton Care Home in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.4 out of 5 from 2 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.796 for The Ashton Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (162 Excellents x 5) + (37 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 201 Ratings = 4.796

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 3.389 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Ashton Care Home is based on 2 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 = 3.25

    2. Target of 14.4 positive Reviews (72 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 2 Reviews ÷ 14.4 Target = 0.139

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

I highly recommend The Ashton. My mother is treated with kindness and respect and although a very private person with different health issues - her life is fuller than it would have been had she remained in her own home.
She is very well cared for and activities are sensitively arranged to reflect her interests as much as possible. The staff are very supportive not only to my mum but also to myself - I could not wish for a better place for my mum to be.

We are very pleased with The Ashton Care Home. We live 300 miles away now and so visit at irregular times. We have always found mum clean, tidy and well presented and is happy as her condition will allow her to be. Staff are always happy to help and spend time talking to mum. It gives us peace of mind that mum is safe and protected when we can't be there.

I have found the staff and carers at this home to be very caring and show a great deal of warmth and compassion in their roles. The home itself is lovely and has a real 'home from home' feel to it. The carpets on the first floor could do with replacing as they are very stained in places - but the rooms themselves are of a very high standard and very clean. My mother has been a resident here since August 2016 and I would not have her anywhere else.

Dad unfortunately only stayed at the Ashton for a short time, but was made to feel very welcome. The care and attention was second to none and the staff were amazing.

My mother has lived at The Ashton for more than 12 months, she has dementia and lives on the nursing floor. I feel that she is as happy as she would be anywhere with her condition. She has attached herself emotionally to most carers who are now her family too. This is fine as they now do more for her than I am able to. Whilst being expensive they do go the extra mile, for instance, a shopping trip on mum's birthday with residents in The Ashton's wheelchair minibus was wonderful. A day to remember for mum and myself.

In March 2016 she lost the use of her legs and went to hospital who looked after her splendidly. She had to be moved on and the doctor decided that The Ashton was the best to be had. Sadly on 30th August she died at the age of 96. The Ashton has been superb. You ask for "value for money" the staff are supremely honest- not a penny went.

The Ashton is an excellent care facility in my opinion. The staff are all well trained. At the times I have visited my dad, they appear to be very caring and supportive. Nothing is too much trouble for them.
The office staff are excellent and very helpful. Again, nothing is too much trouble, however great or small. The girls on reception are always cheerful, helpful and willing to assist me and the activities director always seems to have plenty of good ideas for activities for the residents. Overall, a very caring experience for us and my dad. I can't praise them enough.

The Ashton Care Home provides the environment that is required for my mothers complex nursing care requirements. It has a relaxing atmosphere and the staff are always helpful and willing to discuss an aspect of the care being provided. The room (with ensuite wet room) corridors and communal areas are all welcoming, light, bright and airy. Having viewed several care and nursing homes during my mothers changing requirements, I have no regrets whatsoever in choosing The Ashton which gives real peace of mind that my mother is safe, comfortable and being treated appropriately for her many needs.

Pleasant, well-appointed care home. Staff ie. carers and management, go out of their way to be accommodating of my wife's needs. Always prepared to stop and listen. Some of the residents including my wife can be a little noisy at times!! Laundry and cleaning attended to daily. Good range of facilities from outside ie. hairdressing, chiropody, optician, doctors and entertainment.

My sister-in-law was in The Ashton for two weeks respite care. At no notice, we visited The Ashton and were invited to have a look round. My sister-in-law had no previous experience of care homes, (she is 87 in Sept '16) and was very apprehensive about the situation, but within five minutes of meeting the staff and viewing the rooms she had no hesitation in saying she would be happy to stay in The Ashton. She was only in for two weeks but from the experience, she has said she would have no hesitation in going back if her circumstances required her needing full-time care.

We are all very quick to criticise these days and find fault with all around us but over the last few days that I have spent at my mother-in-law's side I have nothing but admiration for the staff at 'The Ashton Care Home' in Hinkley. My mother-in-law returned home from hospital to The Ashton Care Home 'end of life care' and so instead of going back to the residential ground floor, she was moved to the top Nursing Care floor. I was delighted to find that all her belongings had been moved upstairs and all her photographs and pictures hung on the wall. It just looked like home! My mother-in-law received nothing but kindness and consideration from ALL of the staff from office/reception, nurses, carers as well as cleaning, laundry and catering staff and last but no means least the maintenance men. One can't help but admire the dedication of these super people. Sitting there beside my mother-in-law has been a real eye opener. One gentleman shouts "help" almost all of the time and someone else sounds like something out of a 'Jayne Ayre' scene or 'Bedlam', but the staff are all aware and continually checking their very difficult patients. Some staff spend time just sitting with them to keep them calm. Other patients trot up and down the corridor in their pursuit of making sense of their lives. I gave them a cheerful wave and most responded with a smile and a wave with the odd conversation. All members of staff are constantly on the go with frequent interruptions from people needing their attention. How they manage to remember everything, I really don't know! The carers from other floors called in to see how my mother-in-law was doing and were all SO supportive with hugs and friendly kind words. It's just like one big family. If all care homes were like this one, no-one would be afraid of getting old. When it was time for me to go home for a bit of a break, I knew that my mother-in-law was in safe hands and would not be allowed to die alone. This did in fact happen in the early hours of Tuesday morning and since then I have been into see them all to say a big thank you. I just wanted you to know how grateful I am to have received such care and love from them all and indeed sing their praises.

Mum initially went to The Ashton for 2 weeks respite in May 2015, but unfortunately was not able to leave. The care mum received was first class. The carers genuinely cared and nothing was too much trouble. Mum was treated with dignity and respect.
When mum became very ill, carers even came to see her when they were not on duty. I wish mum has been well enough to join in the activities etc as I feel confident that she would have made good friends with both residents and staff.
