The Ashton, what a beautiful place and the staff are so very welcoming and caring - just the place you want your loved ones to be at, in later life. The management team were very professional, very caring for everyone that was there, everything they dealt with was done with the utmost care and attention
to the people concerned. Fantastic - that’s all I can say. People who actually look after your loved ones like they should be looked after, they treat people with dignity and that matters. Well done - keep up the very hard work that you do.

Mum came into the Aston in March 2020 as the country went into lockdown. Although we couldn't visit, we were able to talk to her through the railings. She is happy and the carers are doing a fantastic job looking after the residents. Mum enjoys the food and has no complaints.

My father has severe mobility problems due to long-standing hip arthritis, but good mental capacity, although, in his 90’s, he’s a little forgetful. He moved to The Ashton in January 2019, having lived with us for 16 months and previously independently in assisted living. Like many, he was reluctant
to move but recognised that we could no longer manage all his needs. He took a long time to settle, not helped by lockdown, but the staff have always been very patient and kind with him and he is now contented, particularly enjoying the meals and coffee mornings. He has never been one for group activities like quizzes or crafts but recently has enjoyed some outings. I appreciate the way the staff are always approachable and keep me informed of any particular needs or changes to Dad’s care. The manager has gone out of her way to get to know the relatives, with regular online team meetings and made visiting more flexible within the current regulations, which is much appreciated.
Reply from Emma Weston, Manager at The Ashton Care HomeThank you for your kind comments. I am really pleased to hear that you are happy with the care and support your father receives here at the Ashton. Please do not hesitate to let us know if you ever have any concerns in the future.

Very understaffed and undertrained nursing home, where the residents are the ones that suffer! Standards have been dropping consistently to dangerous levels. Medication is often not given on time and care plans are not detailed enough for bank nurses to use.
Reply from Emma Weston, Manager at The Ashton Care HomeIt is saddening to receive a review like this and of course we are disappointed to hear of your dissatisfaction with the service at the time your loved one lived here. As the new Home Manager of the Ashton, I unfortunately never had the opportunity to meet you or your relative. The Ashton has a brand new management team and structure in place and we would like to reassure you that our residents needs are paramount and we have a commitment to ensuring person-centred care. If you would like to discuss any of the issues you raised in your review, please do not hesitate to contact the management team at the home directly.

My mother went into the care home in March 2020, just prior to the 1st lockdown. Initially, she was unhappy about having to go there. Prior to that, she had lived on her own (in sheltered accommodation) and been very independent. However, severe deterioration of her health meant she needed more care,
and The Ashton seemed to offer that. Mum started to accept that being in there was best for her; this came about because of the excellent support of the staff. With Covid, we were unable to visit (although we spoke on the phone), and it was the efforts of the staff that really brought her around. She is now very happy there; she often comments on the great staff, the food, and the general care of the staff. For us, this is a great relief, and in turn, we are very happy that she is content there.
Reply from Sophie Lawrence, Administrator at The Ashton Care HomeHi Roger, thank you for such lovely words.

My Grandad is currently a resident at this care home. He initially went for a 2-week respite stay to give my parents a well-deserved break, but we were so impressed with how my grandad had settled in and started to improve and thrive, we made the decision for him to become a full-time resident, which
wasn’t the initial plan but it just felt like the right thing to do for him and was like home from home. The staff are lovely and so attentive, my grandad doesn’t usually like to be surrounded by strangers but he was happy and comfortable with all the staff from day one. He’s been given a new lease of life and the staff give him so much time and attention. They have been so helpful and taken care of things for my mum and us as a family so she or we don’t have the extra stress, they have sorted out medication, contacted his doctor/memory clinic to correct all the mistakes that have been made previously. They're looking after my grandad but also looking after us. Thank you.

Mum spent the last few years of her life as a permanent resident in The Ashton. My sister and I cannot fault the care and attention she received. She was happy, content and enjoyed the chats and giggles with the carers and other residents. The care home was clean, fresh and welcoming, and nothing was
too much trouble. The Ashton organised activities daily, outings and even brought Mum to my house when I held a charity coffee morning. Nothing was too much trouble.

My mother and father both resided at The Ashton Care Home. My father had dementia, and my mother was in bed most of the time due to various ailments. The staff were kind and considerate. My mother could be quite difficult, but they treated her with dignity, particularly during the last few weeks of
her life. The family was kept informed of all their care needs. There was always a warm welcome from all staff both carers, admin and domestic. Unfortunately, both my parents passed away last year. My father died in hospital, and my mother at The Ashton. In her last weeks at the homes, carers went out of their way to make my mother comfortable.

I've been visiting The Ashton for over three years to see my wife's parents and mine. In that time I've experienced the residential, dementia and nursing floors.
You're always made to feel welcome and the staff couldn't be more helpful. All reasonable individual requests are accommodated, which gives
you a great deal of confidence about the personal care of your loved one and the maintenance team are exceptionally adept in personalising the rooms. Whilst it would be nice to have a little more outdoor space, the bright, welcoming day rooms provide plenty of space for families to socialise.

The Ashton Care Home is a wonderful place. My dad was a resident with them for the last four months of his life. The staff were always incredibly kind, treating Dad with dignity and respect and would often make time before their shifts officially started to pop in and have a chat with him. As a family,
we were made to feel very welcome and enjoyed lots of the varied activities arranged each week, building some lovely final memories. It really is a 'home from home', and we can't thank them enough for what they did for Dad.

My Aunt was resident at the Ashton for a number of years prior to her recent death. I cannot thank or commend the staff enough for the care that they gave her, particularly at the end of her life. She was safe, comfortable, nursed and cared for to the highest standard.
The relatively new management
team are demonstrating strong leadership, reflecting in a more stable staffing position and highly qualified nursing staff.
The environment is well maintained by the inhouse maintenance team and housekeeping staff who are themselves part of the social fabric and daily life of the residents. Entertainment for residents is of a high standard.
As a relative, I felt welcome and well communicated with.

My sister and her husband and I visited my brother yesterday, 15th December 2018. He has been in Ashton Care home for just over a year. Although greatly affected physically by his many years with multiple sclerosis, he still has good use of his mental abilities, unlike most residents in care homes.
At first, he was depressed and miserable. Gradually, especially as the staff adjusted to a younger resident who needs considerable help physically yet still knows his mind and still has considerable mental abilities. My brother has become much happier, greatly helped by becoming involved in the various activities. The weather forecast for yesterday had been grim so my brother had arranged for the four of us to have lunch together in a small dining room. We were fed and looked after extremely well! I was very impressed by the genuine affection the staff showed my brother, he was the happiest I have known him since he first went into residential care many years ago. We are a scattered family: my many grateful thanks to the staff at Ashton.

My Dad who is suffering from Dementia and Parkinson's came to Ashton from hospital due to a fall at home, he had been bed bound for about a month.
After arriving at The Ashton he was out of bed and walking aided by a carer. As weeks went by he was walking unaided trying to feed himself.
He has come
on in leaps and bounds.
The staff have been brilliant helping my Dad every step of the way.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.635)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.635) out of 10 for The Ashton Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 22 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 22 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.635 for The Ashton Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (179 Excellents x 5) + (68 Goods x 4) + (12 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 260 Ratings = 4.635
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Ashton Care Home is based on 22 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 72 registered maximum number of service users is 14.4, which has been reached with 22 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
