My father-in-law became a resident for emergency respite whilst my mother in law was seriously ill, I was pleasantly surprised at how amazing the place was. His room was stunning with a balcony and beautiful view. The caring team were attentive and genuinely care for their residents, the food looks like something from a good quality restaurant and all homemade. I could not wish for him to be in a better place, he loves the food, activities and interaction with the staff and residents. My mother-in-law is still not so good so he goes in regularly for day care at his request, this is great for the family knowing and understanding how happy he is whilst giving the respite and break my mother-in-law and family need. My father-in-law has dementia, his requirements and needs are always fulfilled at Magdalen Park and he genuinely seems happy to be there.

Visited a few times to see family friends and there's always such a warm welcome, staff are attentive and the residents are well looked after and happy. Great facilities and so much planned to keep them entertained. A fun, happy environment to be in. Highly recommended.

Our nana was a resident at Magdalen Park after being diagnosed with dementia and then inoperable lung cancer. She was cared for with great respect and love during her stay there. As a family, we were also made very welcome and offered drinks on arrival.

Sadly, Nana has now passed away, and we cannot thank the staff and management enough for their support at this difficult time.

My mother went into Magdalen Park Care Home in April 2023, sadly due to inoperable cancer and dementia. The staff went over and above to settle her into the home as she really could not understand why she was there. Over the months, they embraced not only my mum but the entire family, offering refreshments and general kindness on every visit she sadly passed away at the beginning of the month and her end of life care was very caring and kind. Staff even came in on their day off to say goodbye to her. We cannot thank the home enough for their support at a very difficult time.

Mum was made very much to feel at home when she moved into Magdalen Park. Her room is spacious, well furnished, and comfortable. There are so many activities to do there, including a bistro, shop and hairdressers within the building. Outside there are so many places to sit and relax with lovely views.

But most of all the entire care team make everyone feel welcome and are so caring and dedicated towards making my mum's life there as enjoyable, stimulating and comfortable as can be.

My dad, who is living with dementia, is thriving whilst in respite at Magdalen Park Care Home, the manager and team have all been excellent in the quality of care that is being provided. The home is a real home from home for my dad, he's only 61 years old and there's a lovely community feel. Always a warm welcome for family members, especially my children who love visiting. His dietary needs are being taken care of as are his personal care needs, he is washed, shaven and dressed smartly which is how my dad has always been. I'm very pleased with the care and wouldn't hesitate for my dad to stay for future respite at Magdalen Park. Thank you to all.

Would not recommend this ‘care home’. Completely ignored the care plan given by the family for a dementia patient. This patient was unable to think for themselves so people around are supposed to do their best for them.
The family member was booked in for 11 days and passed away in their care after 3 days.

Should have been washed, dressed, given breakfast and moved to the daycare room to keep with their routine but instead they were left to sleep past 11am which is the time they passed away. This meant they had not been washed and fed but left alone. Complete disgrace.

Reply from Laura Hugill, Home Manager at Magdalen Park

We are very sorry for your loss and understand how upsetting this must have been. Your family member’s welfare had been checked during that morning. We do find the settling-in period, when moving into a care home, is more successful if led by the resident and supporting a late rising if tired would...

Magdalen Park Care Home all the time mother has been resident has been truly memorable. My mother, now 98, is so settled and happy as a resident there. The staff, from the manager, receptionist and all the care staff are wonderful. They have made it all very much easier for both my mother and myself. I have, over the years, had to visit other care homes in the Hull and East Riding area, non of them are anywhere near as good as Magdalen Park. It is exceptionally clean and the food is wonderful, could not be better.

My mother entered Magdalen Park some four months ago confused and in a weakened state after four weeks in hospital and an ongoing battle with cancer. My mother's condition requires a lot of attention. This she gets by staff that have been fantastic and the care given to my mum is absolutely first-rate. Both my sister and I feel assured that our mother is really being looked after well.

My mum has been a resident for about 18 months now, most of which has been during lockdown. The first few months I was able to visit inside the home where I was always made to feel welcome and able to see my mum settled and happy and enjoying the company of both residents and staff.
It is a credit to the staff’s care, professionalism and kindness during lockdown that Mum has continued to be happy and content, which in turn has helped her family not to worry. On my visits to see her in the visiting room, I have noticed that she shares a good rapport with the staff, enjoying the two way banter and always looks well turned out from head to toe.
During these trying times, the home always managed to keep me up to date with what is happening and have always been helpful, patient and courteous when I have needed to contact them.

Extremely happy with Mum’s care.

My aunt came to Magdalen Park for respite care just before the first lockdown. She had fallen and was unable to look after herself safely. The home was very welcoming to my aunt and provided the standard of care she needed. She has since become a permanent resident due to her deterioration in health. She has had several falls and we are always updated and keep in the loop regarding her treatment. She needs more help now and the staff of the home are very capable and caring towards her. She is very well looked after, always clean and very well fed. It has been difficult during lockdown but the home managed to sort out a room for visiting with a partition so visits could start again. The home provides stimulation for residents with games, singing etc in the lounge area. My aunt was reluctant to join in at first but the staff have made her feel included and encouraged her to join in. It has made a difficult year that bit easier knowing she is cared for and looked after.

My mother has lived at Magdalen Park for several years now and I have been extremely pleased with her care. She is well looked after and the staff have obviously taken time to get to know her, which is lovely to see. My mother enjoys the food and entertainment provided and any requests I make are quickly seen to. I would recommend this care home to anyone having to make the difficult decision to place their loved one in a care home.

My mum and dad have been residents of Magdalen Park for 4 years, and during this time they have received first-class care from all the staff. They have particularly helped my dad through a number of personal issues during this last year. We are always consulted and kept up to date with any concerns regarding their health and well being.

The staff’s care for the residents goes beyond being just a job, they are all amazing and we are delighted to have chosen Magdalen and would not hesitate to recommend to others.

My aunt is well cared for in Magdalen Park. She is forgetful and confused but the staff deal with her in such a caring manner. Lockdown has been difficult for my aunt as she lost her friend of 70 years, the staff have helped her to cope with this at a time when we could give limited support. She is always clean, well dressed and looked after. The staff have the ability to make her laugh and cheer her up. There is never a shortage of cuddles or laughter. The staff could not do any more to assist families. They let me know if anything is wrong or if my aunt needs anything bringing in. I really could not ask for more.

My father has been in Magdalen Park for four years now. In that time his dementia has progressively got worse. This has sadly coincided with his behaviour becoming unpredictable and on occasions violent. I’m not sure I would have the patience or professionalism the staff constantly display towards him. The care and attention the staff provide are second to none. The management of Dad's health in general and well being is first class. The surroundings are modern, clean and spacious. Dad has his own en suite room of good dimensions. There is a participatory garden, daily activities, entertainment and occasional trips out. Whenever I leave after a visit I know Dad is in good, kind hands and I thank all the staff for that.

The staff and manager of the care home in Hedon, Magdalen Park Care Home, have done an exceptional job of looking after my father and his partners during the Covid-19 pandemic.

My father's partner has been very poorly during this time and was very well attended to by both staff and doctors through this very difficult time.

In August last year, we required to bring my stepmum (91years with dementia) down from the Hebrides to Hedon, to be close to my wife and I. We had visited Magdalen Park Care Home and met the manager to discuss. We were straight away put at ease and knew this was the sort of home which would provide the care and security we were looking for.
With all arrangements complete, we made the ten-hour, 420 miles (and two ferries) journey in one day, arriving at Magdalen Park around 7pm. We were so happy to see that the manager had waited to be there to welcome us. That meant a lot. Stepmum was given a hot meal and made comfortable for her first night in her new home.

Since this time, nine months ago, we have got to know all the staff, who to be honest have been just brilliant. Nothing is too much trouble, and they go out of the way to help. Stepmum has settled in well, and enjoys a banter with her nursing carers on a daily basis. Her room has her favourite ornaments and pictures on display.

Laura Davison
Laura DavisonJob Title:Home Manager

I have worked in the care sector for over 20 years, with the last 11 spent here at Magdalen Park. During that time, I’ve been fortunate to take on a variety of leadership roles, and I was proud to become Home Manager. I hold a Level 5 Diploma in Health and Social Care, and I’m passionate about ensuring residents receive the very best standards of care.

I believe strongly in Care UK’s ethos of delivering outstanding care. As a manager, I lead with clear values and focus on supporting my team to grow their skills and confidence. By empowering colleagues, I know we can create the best possible outcomes for residents.

My favourite part of the day is greeting residents and colleagues each morning, followed by regular walks around the home so I can chat to everyone. I’m proud of the strong relationships I have with residents, families, colleagues and the wider community, and I always aim to lead with compassion and understanding, especially in challenging times.

Outside of work, I enjoy family time, long walks with my dog, and staying fit. I am passionate about fitness and love challenging myself, especially when it helps raise money for charities.
