Abney Court

Mum had been living here on Albert Suite for 18 months. The care she received was exceptional, members of staff quite often went way beyond what they were supposed to do. With one exception the staff treated mum with kindness even at her most challenging. The exception has since been removed from this home. Mum's behaviour became extremely challenging and the staff tried to deal with it, but her behaviour began to affect other residents, yet the staff still treated her with kindness, respect and dignity. We eventually moved mum to a dementia nursing home, yet the staff from Abney continued to keep in touch. This home and the staff are amazing, we were always welcomed with smiles no matter how difficult mum was. Sadly mum passed away last month, yet staff from Abney came to the funeral to pay their respects and share stories.

From the outside and ground floor this place looks gorgeous HOWEVER when you go onto the 1st floor where My dad was for 2 month which is an assessment floor. It was awful, the smell of urine was soo bad we would take a deep breath before we came through the doors. Staff just left my dad to himself so he became extremely agitated and restless and constantly trying to get out (this didnt happen when he went to a new home). His legs became swollen and infected. His bedding was very thin and i feel gave him rashes on his legs and arms. The majority of the staff were not very friendly and if we asked questions about my dad it felt like we were inconveniencing them. Those on this floor dont have access to the activities in the home. The lost property is a joke too as staff didnt actively search for clothing that went missing. This place in my very honest opinion is absolutely awful it needs the carpet removing, the staff need retraining and need to make family members feel more at ease.

I'm confident my mum is in safe hands, well looked after and has many activities available for her to enjoy

My mum has been a resident at Abney for a couple of years and overall I'm very pleased with her care there. The home environment is very pleasant and some recent decorative improvements have made it even better for the residents. The staff are good and try to make it a caring and warm place for all the residents to live with dignity. There's a wide range of daily activities and mum really enjoys taking part in these. Food and drink are of a high standard and there's a nice dining area for people to spend time in. Overall I'd definitely recommend as somewhere you can feel confident your loved ones will be cared for when they can no longer live independently.

Mum has happily settled into her new home thanks to the kindness, patience and support of all the staff at Abney Court. Mum enjoys the activities, particularly the exercise classes. The lifestyle team make sure mum knows what is happening and can get involved. Lisa from the team will take mum for a walk when the weather is fine - she enjoys that. I visit regularly and always feel welcome. The staff on the Gladstone Suite know mum well and are very kind. Mum said to me the other day 'I'm so glad we found this place, its very good'/ I'm glad too, mum is so well cared for, and happy here.

I have been very impressed by all the staff, they seem to have a very happy environment, which to my mind can only enhance the quality of care given to the residents. I like also the many activities that are on offer to all the residents. I cannot really say anything else because I really, really rate Abney Hall, may you continue for years to come.

My friend and neighbour became a resident in January 2025 following a number of falls and injuries at home. She feels very happy and safe here and I have observed the high standards of care provided by everyone. Thank you.

My Mum has been a resident at Abney Court for 16 months. It was a very difficult decision for her to move in at the time, but the care staff were so caring it made the transition easier than we thought. The activity circular was crucial for Mum as she is enthusiastic to be part of a community to continue to learn new skills-Thai Chi, French and Yoga have been a huge hit! The Leadership Team is excellent, they are present and approachable, any issues (which are rare) are readily resolved.

What an amazing VE Day celebration. The team have gone to so much effort to make this a special event for the residents. The afternoon tea table and the orchard lounge look wonderful. This will bring back so many memories. Well done to the whole team. Once again you've gone over and beyond.

The exact amount of medication was handed in on arrival. At the end of the stay unused medication was handed back showing that on a number of days the medication was not administered. Both eye drops and blood thinners. His left foot was very swollen and our attention on pick up was not drawn to this.

My dad arrived at Abney Court in November after multiple visits to the hospital. The move went well with management and care staff making this possible. Any queries or issues have been addressed and the care staff have approached me and my sisters to notify us of any concerns they have had with my dad's care.

The home is beautiful and the staff are caring and compassionate. Everywhere is spotless and safety is excellent. The food looked and smelled wonderful. Certainly, this is a wonderful home.

Thanks to Abney Court Care Home for allowing our family to host my dad's 93rd birthday party so he could spend it with his wife, a celebration that always took place when my mum was still living at home. The gathering was filled with love, laughter and cherished memories. It is the moments like these that remind us of the warmth of family and the joy of being together. This makes such a difference to my mum and dad as she navigates her journey with dementia. The family are truly grateful for the support you show every day.

Beautiful place. Very clean and comfortable. Great garden. Warm and welcoming.

Otherwise I have no complaints.

I would always recommend Abney Court as a safe caring environment for your loved one.

The carers were amazing they looked after him with love care and attention. My Dad had his favourite and they knew it, they made him smile every day till the end and kissed and gave him hugs. He was comfortable and happy till the end. They're all amazing.

I find the staff very helpful and professional. There are many activities and visiting entertainers. This all makes my partner as comfortable as she can be considering her condition. On-site car park occasionally quite full but nearby parking is available. The coffee lounge particularly good when visiting with friends and relatives.
