Abney Court is a purpose-built care home set within the beautiful grounds of Abney Hall Park in Cheadle. The care home provides residential, respite care and compassionate end of life care, as well as specialist dementia care.

The friendly and caring team at Abney Court get to know each resident and put together a care plan that is tailored to their unique needs. They ensure residents can lead a fulfilling, independent and enjoyable life.

Residents have access to a café where they can catch up with family and friends. When my mum was discharged from hospital and needed to go into a temporary care home for 9 weeks, we were fortunate enough for mum to be found a nursing place at Abney Court. We are extremely grateful for all the professional care that was provided for our Dear Mum during her stay and the wonderful
support that they gave to our family at a very difficult time.

We really love Abney Court. My mother-in-law is on Albert Suite and the person who runs Albert Suite is super. Very kind, very thorough, and attentive, and has worked wonders with my mother-in-law.

My mum has been in the care home since July 2017, I feel she is well looked after. The staff, on the whole, are kind and empathetic but communication needs improving, in lockdown on multiple occasions I'll call to check on my mum and no one can give me the time for an update, so I have to wait hours
to be called back, this is hard when my mum is in late stages. My mum's room could do with a lick of paint overall the home is nice but more training and more quality staff would make it much better for residents and family members alike. For residents in late-stage Alzheimer's, there's no real possibility for activities, I've suggested previously hand massages and other tactile one on one would be of great benefit to residents in late stages.

My mother has been a resident in Abney Court Care Home for more than two years. She is settled and happy and the staff are very attentive. The food is excellent and the facilities are the best I have seen. The coffee bar area is an extra facility and is enjoyed by residents and visitors. The daily activities
are well organised and enjoyed by the residents. The individual bedrooms (all en-suite) provide the residents with their own space and a feeling of independence. The staff are well trained, managers are experienced and easily contactable. I would highly recommend Abney Court if you are looking for a care home for your loved one.

Lovely staff, beautiful home from home environment. My father is always immaculate and well cared for. The staff are fabulous and professional. Great facilities, the grounds are well-kept. Always a welcoming atmosphere, my family and friends say how well my father looks in his photographs there.

My mother suffers from dementia and was admitted at short notice during the lockdown. Sadly, I had to leave her at the door with her suitcase and hope that she would be cared for and settle in. Abney Court called me within 2 hours to let me know that she was settling in and was very comfortable, which
was reassuring. Mum thinks that she has been there all her life and is very happy and settled and I could not be happier with the care and communication that I have received. Everyone that I have spoken too or met from Abney Court has been fabulous and I cannot wait to actually go into the home to see my mum's room and have a 'proper' visit. Based on my experience I would not hesitate to recommend.

We had been caring for our father since his diagnosis. After my mother died, life just wasn't the same for him, his dementia advanced, and we tried to provide 24-hour care between the family, but eventually we had to concede; we simply did not have the expertise to care for him as he needed. We had
to accept the inevitable. I knew someone who had had a relative reside at Abney Court, and had been delighted. We made a visit; immediately, I felt cared for myself, I just knew everything was going to be alright, it has been better than that, the staff are so caring, my father relies on them and loves them. Lockdown has obviously made things difficult but Abney have done everything possible to keep us in touch, I have been confident throughout this Covid time that Dad is better than OK, he is happy, cared for, completely at home. I don't know what we would have done without them. Abney Court has been caring of the whole family throughout, we will never be able to thank them enough.

My father has advanced Alzheimer's disease and we had been caring for him at home until we had to accept that was no longer safe. He has lived at Abney Court since August 2019 and we are so pleased that we chose such a wonderful home for him. The facilities and range of activities are excellent and
the levels of comfort superb but it is the love and care that he receives from his carers which is such a comfort to us. They treat him with such kindness and respect. They keep him safe yet allow him freedom whilst preserving his dignity at all times. They have welcomed him and all of us so that we feel part of their family. Sadly, covid has restricted visits but staff have done all they can to keep us well informed and provide access through facetime, outdoor visits and visits through indoor 'pods.' Though these are difficult and frightening times we have felt completely confident that he is safe and happy at Abney Court.

My aunt has lived here for almost 3 years following a stroke that has severely affected her mobility. She is otherwise healthy and involved with the world. She has been well cared for in the main and I have been very impressed by the work of their activity organisers who have been so effective in overcoming
the boredom of being in a care home.
Unfortunately, this aspect of the homes care has been severely undermined by the Covid situation. I look forward to the reinstitution of the activities team as soon as possible.
On the positive side, the home has been very careful to protect its residents from Covid. They have suffered losses but are acting extremely responsibly. They have instituted an extremely safe visiting room allowing us to see and talk to our relatives without any possibility of passing on any infection. All in all, one of the better homes I think.

This home considers each individual. The staff are friendly, caring and professional. There are many opportunities for activities, social groups, entertainment and company. The facilities are really welcoming, especially the coffee shop and garden.

The nursing care is a lot to be desired. The food is OK. Small portions for my husband.

As my wife's condition was progressively getting worse it was now virtually impossible to look after her at home. We (the family) felt that residential care was imperative. After visiting many homes that in our opinion did not match our requirement we found Abney Court. From the moment you arrived you
were aware of the relaxing atmosphere in tastefully designed communal areas and ensuite rooms. My wife soon settled in. From day one all the staff have been fantastic, endeavouring to meet your every request. Successful in virtually every case. As I am a daily visitor you can immediately see how hard all the staff in various different departments work together to maintain the incredibly high standards in care and compassion required at Abney court.

My family and I were delighted to find this 21st century Care Home for my 94-year-old dad when he was fast-tracked from hospital. What a breath of fresh air this place is. Dad now has a new lease on life. He was bedridden and on pureed food when he left hospital. He's now enjoying the delicious food
here cooked by an award-winning chef and thoroughly enjoys all the entertainment and the company of the staff. He tells us that they look after him really well. Living in Devon but visiting often, this really puts my mind at rest. Although my two sons and their wives visit as often as they can, they all work full time. They have also said that they know he is definitely in the right place and they can relax knowing that their grandad is in safe hands. I just wish there were more places like this for the elderly who are young at heart. Thanks guys.

The staff work hard to look after the residents but I think there should be more of them, my stepfather has had a couple of falls, which haven't been too serious but I haven't always been informed of them. My stepfather enjoys the interaction with some of the staff and I get the impression they enjoy
his company as well. My stepfather enjoys the food saying it is tasty and plentiful and there are always cups of tea or coffee and snacks available in the coffee shop. The bedrooms are spacious and generally well cleaned and my stepfather says he is given a shower every morning although sometimes it might not be straight away. All in all Abney Court is a good care home.

Helping a parent decide on their future care arrangements when they are struggling with independence is difficult. I found that staff at Abney Court were a huge support during this process and I am pleased to say that we feel that we had chosen the right place.
The excellent staff work hard to provide
a loving and caring environment and there is always plenty going on at Abney Court. What's more family and visitors are always welcome - they can join in activities or just sit and enjoy a cuppa with the resident in the cafe (which has the most amazing cakes!) The accommodation is of a very high standard and always very clean.
In an ideal world, my mother would be living an independent life in her own home, but as this is no longer possible she has the absolute best alternative.

Having seen other homes and getting very upset by their feel and lack of interest by staff.
We found Abney Court by chance, we rang another Care UK home who put us on to Abney Court. Dad was in a previous home and would only be discharged to short term residential care due to falls and later finding
out a rare neurological condition (finding Abney we changed it to permanent residential care). As we live in Australia it was vital we found a home that we felt Dad was going to be safe and happy in.
The activities have been great and as males are in a minority in care homes, we are grateful to the activity team who take Dad to places of interest to him including the local Museum and football club.
The staff work hard to make the environment warm and friendly. The cafe with its daily treats is a vital part of Abney's community, where family and friends can sit with residents and are encouraged to join in any entertainment or activities.

My aunt has been living at Abney Court for a little over six months. Last summer, she went there for a fortnight's respite care and on arriving home, asked to go straight back!
From a relative's perspective, the team at Abney is efficient and easy to deal with. They are friendly and, above all, very
caring towards residents.
For those who want to participate, the range of activities is extensive. The events co-ordinator also helped organise a lovely 90th birthday celebration for us at the home. Rooms and ensuite facilities are clean, laundry is crisp and my aunt tells me the catering is really good!
The hotel style decor is a bonus but this probably matters more to visitors than to many residents for whom the quality of the care is paramount.
Of course, premium care and surroundings come at a price. But, one I'd say is worth paying if you can.

I have 14 years of experience in adult social care and children's services.


I’ve worked hard through the years to gain skills and knowledge in many areas of health and social care for adults and children, and I have progressed through numerous roles over the years. Most recently, I achieved a registered manager’s role.


In this role, my focus is on ensuring we provide quality care and that residents and their families are happy. You need to have patience, good communication and listening skills and empathy. I love communicating with residents, their families and my colleagues. Every day I feel inspired to work alongside my team to provide good standards of care.
