Abney Court

As my wife's condition was progressively getting worse it was now virtually impossible to look after her at home. We (the family) felt that residential care was imperative. After visiting many homes that in our opinion did not match our requirement we found Abney Court. From the moment you arrived you were aware of the relaxing atmosphere in tastefully designed communal areas and ensuite rooms. My wife soon settled in. From day one all the staff have been fantastic, endeavouring to meet your every request. Successful in virtually every case. As I am a daily visitor you can immediately see how hard all the staff in various different departments work together to maintain the incredibly high standards in care and compassion required at Abney court.

My family and I were delighted to find this 21st century Care Home for my 94-year-old dad when he was fast-tracked from hospital. What a breath of fresh air this place is. Dad now has a new lease on life. He was bedridden and on pureed food when he left hospital. He's now enjoying the delicious food here cooked by an award-winning chef and thoroughly enjoys all the entertainment and the company of the staff. He tells us that they look after him really well. Living in Devon but visiting often, this really puts my mind at rest. Although my two sons and their wives visit as often as they can, they all work full time. They have also said that they know he is definitely in the right place and they can relax knowing that their grandad is in safe hands. I just wish there were more places like this for the elderly who are young at heart. Thanks guys.

The staff work hard to look after the residents but I think there should be more of them, my stepfather has had a couple of falls, which haven't been too serious but I haven't always been informed of them. My stepfather enjoys the interaction with some of the staff and I get the impression they enjoy his company as well. My stepfather enjoys the food saying it is tasty and plentiful and there are always cups of tea or coffee and snacks available in the coffee shop. The bedrooms are spacious and generally well cleaned and my stepfather says he is given a shower every morning although sometimes it might not be straight away. All in all Abney Court is a good care home.

In an ideal world, my mother would be living an independent life in her own home, but as this is no longer possible she has the absolute best alternative.

The staff work hard to make the environment warm and friendly. The cafe with its daily treats is a vital part of Abney's community, where family and friends can sit with residents and are encouraged to join in any entertainment or activities.

I am extremely happy with the care taken towards my husband. Nothing is too much trouble when required.

Of course, premium care and surroundings come at a price. But, one I'd say is worth paying if you can.

It used to be upsetting to see my mum so distraught trying to cope in her own home, now it’s such a relief to see how relaxed and settled she’s become at Abney Court. Her room is bright, modern and, like the home itself, so tastefully decorated. The staff are kind, thoughtful and attentive to her needs whilst maintaining her independence and dignity. The whole ethos and atmosphere is uplifting, well done Abney Court!

The staff in every department at Abney are amazing. My Mum is showing a new lease of life since moving in. As I live overseas, the staff make every effort to keep me up to date with Mums activities. It’s given me great peace of mind. We visited this time last year and the home allowed us to have a mini wedding ceremony, sorting out a private room and lunch so that Mum was part of our big day. The staff even helped video Mum giving her speech for our actual big day and kept it a surprise. I’ve never cried so many tears of happiness. Thank you to everyone there, I cannot praise them enough.

My mother has been a resident of Abney Court for the past two years and I have visited regularly throughout that period. The staff and facilities are what you would expect to find given the fees that they charge. The rooms are clean and airy and the gardens are a delight in the warmer, summer months. We often visit the bar and the freshly baked cakes and coffee are always on tap for residents and visitors.

The chef strives to make meals both wholesome and varied and residents are encouraged to ask for their favourite dishes. My only slight negative is the lack of space in the car park which is often full, particularly in the afternoons.

I cannot speak highly enough of Abney Court.

Dad moved into Abney Hall three weeks ago and he is very comfortable in his lovely ensuite room. We had worried about him for a long time and to have the peace of mind we now have is a great relief. Like most of us, as we get older and really need help, it’s very hard to accept the loss of independence, so Dad had fought to stay in his home. Finally after frequent hospital admissions he needed 24 hour nursing care. Abney Court is an absolute gem as the staff, the hotel style decor and attention to detail make it a care home with the icing on the cake. Speaking of which fresh cakes and quality hot drinks are available all day to residents and visitors. Sadly Dad is not well enough to take advantage of all the facilities and entertainment which is offered, but many residents are. I met a very chirpy lady today who was looking forward to getting her hair done in the salon today. If you’re looking for a special care home this will probably tick all the boxes.

My mother has lived independently until she was almost 100. She's found it very difficult to accept that she needs support and a care environment that gives her that support. We've been very lucky to find Abney Court and have found all the staff to be understanding and very supportive of my mother's needs. This is despite the fact that she can be difficult and still think she could manage to live independently. The whole of our family cannot think of a better place for her to live comfortably for the rest of the time she has. It would be wonderful if, over time, she comes to accept her position.

My mother has now been a resident at Abney Court for over two years. The whole environment - her room, food and activities are of the highest standard I've come across anywhere. The special events are great fun for residents, families, friends and staff and are much appreciated. The staff know my mum well, treat her with great dignity and respect her independence - encouraging her to make her own choices. They're very vigilant in regards to her health and show genuine care for her. The staff see Abney Court as my mum's home now and are very willing to go the extra mile to help her feel this to be so.

The staff are friendly and genuinely know the residents. They can answer any concerns relatives may have and take the well being of residents very seriously.

Abney Court is a highly professional Care Home for the elderly.

It is clearly run very professionally, with a focus on the Well Being of the residents. The Staff are welcoming, helpful and try to accommodate the needs of the Residents / Family Members. I have been particularly impressed with how they have access/regular visits by Doctor/GP to ensure that any issues are identified and/or addressed as needed.

The Staff are friendly and responsive to Residents needs.

Abney Court is a fantastic home and so unlke others we visited. The care, facilities and environment are outstanding and I would recommend anyone considering a home to visit. My mother has been a resident there for almost 2 years and is very secure and settled.

The outside area is lovely and the staff are friendly and welcoming.
