My mum has been at Abney Court for seven months, initially for respite care but then she decided to stay on a permanent basis.
She has settled here really well, is very well cared for, is happy and has made good friends.
It is a pleasure to visit her at Abney, we always feel welcome.

I have been very impressed by the facilities here, but above all by the staff. All the care staff have been well selected for the way they deal with residents - respectfully, kindly, with patience and with humour. This is not only when they know a relative is in earshot, but also when they are not
aware a relative is nearby. There is also a separate team of 'lifestyle' staff who have been equally well chosen for their cheerfulness, thoughtfulness and indefatigable enthusiasm. They organise activities ranging from Tai Chi, through to animal petting, regular singers, dancers and trips out in the minibus. There is also an extremely comfortable cinema with regular film shows.

The building has been well planned and even though large, has been divided into smaller more personal units. The furnishings are attractive, comfortable and homely. It is always kept scrupulously clean. Some staff have said that Abney is a much better place to work than their previous care home employers.

Since settling my mother and father in law in Abney Court, a huge weight has been lifted. We had been coping with them for 3 years without any help. Abney Court now takes care of them physically and emotionally, fulfilling their every need in a way that we couldn't do. The activities are amazing and
my mother in law is thriving and enjoying life again.

My Mum has been a resident for over a year at Abney Court.
It has taken her a while to settle but that is due to her deteriorating Alzheimer's, not the home.
The staff are friendly and caring.
She and the other residents are always treated with respect and they ensure residents' dignity is maintained.
The
rooms are cleaned daily and are homely and bright.
Regular activities are scheduled each day and there are frequent day trips. The day trips cost extra which you have to bear in mind as weekly rates are expensive.
On the whole, I am happy with the care my Mum receives, I can sleep at night knowing someone is there looking after her.

Excellent care and attention. A happy busy place where residents interact in a supportive warm and caring atmosphere. Good activities attuned to the ages, interests and abilities of residents. Difficult to identify anything that is not excellent or near excellent. Lovely new building and gardens in

The atmosphere at Abney Court is warm and welcoming. Throughout my mum's stay, all staff were friendly and caring. My mum felt happy and well looked after. The accommodation is exceptional and everything is spotlessly clean. I would recommend Abney Court to anyone looking for a first class care home.

I found sleeping on nylon sheets very hot. So much my pj's were wet through, we had to have the sheets changed to cotton.

My husband really enjoys coming to Abney for day care on Wednesdays. He enjoys going on walks and loves the cinema. I am happy that the food is very well balanced - not too much stodge. I am also happy that the atmosphere is very clean and that there is no smell usually connected with care homes. I
am very satisfied with the care he receives from all the staff.

This was my first visit and I was very impressed by the standard and reception from staff at all levels.
I only put good on value because I just think these places are so expensive. I totally understand it is very difficult looking after people with dementia and you all do a grand job. It is very
difficult looking after people with dementia, everyone has to be so very patient and understanding. Thank you.

Abney Court was a real find for me, having to find a care home for my mother who was suffering from dementia. I looked around a number of homes but none matched the facilities of Abney Court. She became a resident in October 2015 and since then the care she has received has matched my expectations.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.560)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.560) out of 10 for Abney Court is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 18 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 17 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.635 for Abney Court is calculated as follows: ( (153 Excellents x 5) + (44 Goods x 4) + (10 Satisfactorys x 3) + (3 Poors x 2) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 211 Ratings = 4.635
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.925 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Abney Court is based on 17 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.925
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 80 registered maximum number of service users is 16, which has been reached with 17 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager

I began my career in care as a Care Assistant, and with support and encouragement from my managers, I’ve worked my way up to Team Leader, then Discharge Coordinator, then Deputy Manager and now Home Manager. I’m preparing to do my Level 5 qualification to further build on my skills.

I joined Care UK because of its strong reputation and the support and opportunities it offers for progression.

To do this role well, you need strong communication skills, the ability to see the bigger picture, and a calm, solution-focused mindset. The most important part of my role is overseeing all aspects of care and making sure every resident receives the highest standard of support.

A career highlight for me has been achieving my current position. The most rewarding part of my role is that I get to make a real difference to the lives of Abney Court residents every day.

Outside of work, I enjoy listening to music and spending time with my family and friends.
