My friend was transferred from hospital only to die a few hours after arriving. However, the care we were given both in visiting and making the arrangements was excellent. The staff were caring and made every effort to make my friend's last hours comfortable. After her death, the care and concern continued.
I am very impressed by the staff at Cedar View and cannot rate them highly enough.

The things that are promised have not been seen. Residents are frequently left in the same place to watch TV all day. Agency nurses, especially at weekends, can be sullen, seemingly lazy and do not interact with residents. Residents are not encouraged to ask for what they want - and therefore have become
institutionalised. With the theatre, landscape gardens, activities, food and sweet shop, I would expect everything to be of top quality for the amount spent each month. Too many niggles to allow this and every aspect would be improved with a little management participation and overview.
Reply from Barbara Carter, Cedar Manager at Cedar ViewThank you for taking the time to provide feedback. We carefully read all reviews and hold regular resident and family meetings to ensure all thoughts and opinions are heard. We make every effort to create a homely atmosphere at Cedar View and our activity department has recently been increased to enable us to improve the activity provision within the home. I am not sure what things have been promised that have not been seen but have an open door policy and so please feel free to drop and discuss any concerns you may have.

Very friendly. Very attentive, clean. However, I didn't like the food - I am vegetarian and I didn't get much choice. Staff were very quick to provide support with my incontinence.

My mother resided in Cedar View, Croydon for over two years until she passed away. The care she received was exemplary. The wonderful team treated her with the utmost care and kindness.
The facilities are excellent and having visited many care homes, the immediate impression that you are greeted with
is how spotless the home is, not just in the public areas but also all the resident's rooms.
To entrust a home with the care of my mother was a big and emotional decision so was undertaken following a great deal of research, it was a relief to quickly realise our decision was the right one.

Having come straight from Gatwick airport after a long flight, I visited my mother in her last hours late a night on the advice of the night sister. The nursing staff were very caring and respectful and treated my mother, myself and my husband like family.

After mother passed away early the next

morning I called back to the home. Again I was treated very well by admin/staff and part of a family. So much to organise but I was helped and slowly taken through everything. At all times the staff were caring, sympathetic and professional and wish my mother had been able to come here sooner to enjoy the facilities available to the more active guests which were fantastic. Thank you all.

Having visited my aunt, coming from Ireland, I was very impressed with this care home.

The staff were extremely friendly on my arrival for the first time and introduced themselves. The home appeared homely and welcoming with visiting any time of day.

The area I most appreciated was the quiet

room where I could converse with my aunt in private. Overall, I was very impressed.

Cedar View is an impressive and attractive new home with good facilities. It has an experienced, effective manager who promotes high standards of care and the best practice. The care staff are kind and caring, and make good use of all the facilities to ensure residents have an enjoyable and interesting
day. The ancillary staff maintain Cedar View to a high standard but always have time to chat and help residents. The home has an attractive accessible garden and it is situated next to one of the loveliest parks in Croydon with it's own little excellent outdoor cafe.

I've been to hundreds of homes over the last 20 years of my Mum's illness. To start with this is by far the most beautiful nursing home I've ever seen - however more important than that is the staff team and how they work with the residents, understand their needs and care for them. The manager is very
experienced, knowledgeable and extremely understanding about dementia and everything that goes with it. It has been such a refreshing change to find someone that truly puts the residents first and wants to make their quality of life the best that it can be. The interactions that I have seen between residents and staff are outstanding. I can't speak highly enough of this home and would recommend it to anyone without the slightest hesitation. It is a lovely environment with a great team and marvellous facilities. I wouldn't mind a room there myself!

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.620)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.620) out of 10 for Cedar View is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 16 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 16 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.720 for Cedar View is calculated as follows: ( (143 Excellents x 5) + (40 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 189 Ratings = 4.72
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Cedar View is based on 16 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.9
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 65 registered maximum number of service users is 13, which has been reached with 16 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Isabel Nyirenda

Job Title: Home Manager

I have been working in healthcare for many years, both in the NHS and the private sector.

I qualified as a Registered General Nurse in 1993 and have since acquired extensive experience across various fields of nursing, including critical care, geriatrics, and community health.

Throughout my career, my philosophy has remained very simple: “Treat others as you would like to be treated.” This principle guides my interactions with patients, families, and colleagues, ensuring that compassion and respect are at the forefront of our care.

I lead a dedicated team that embraces a holistic approach to deliver person-centred care, tailoring our services to meet the individual needs of each resident. While pictures in the brochure can speak a thousand words, I always recommend a visit to the home for a true understanding of our environment.

Seeing the space for yourself and having the opportunity to engage in conversation with team members, residents, or visiting relatives allows you to truly appreciate the warm and welcoming atmosphere we strive to create every day.
