Our aunt has only recently moved to this beautiful care home - and has been made to feel so welcome. Staff have taken time to get to know her and her needs, and always treat her with care and dignity. She comments regularly on the kindness of the staff. A couple of days ago she had an emergency admission
to hospital and we were so impressed with how well this was handled, with initial care being given while an ambulance was called. At the end of the day, there was a discussion about discharge or being admitted to a ward. Our aunt said she wanted to go home, back to Abbotswood. The fact that she called it "home" spoke volumes. We are very grateful indeed that she is being so well looked after.
Reply from Anya Sait, Home Admissions Advisor at Abbotswood Court Care HomeWe can't thank you enough for such a wonderful review. We appreciate all feedback but seeing comments such as yours is so rewarding for the team. We love having your Aunt with us and are pleased she has settled in so well.

Abbotswood Court Care Home is a wonderful place for your loved ones to live. The staff are amazing and so kind and thoughtful. The place is decorated beautifully and has a very calm feel. The care on offer is second to none and I would highly recommend it to all. I could not have asked for any better
care, kindness and dignity for my mum in her time there.

I came for respite care and the management and staff are giving the attention, help, support security and care. Your welfare is at the top of their agenda with the help, support and friendship I am now able to walk again, rather than looking for the next finger hold or a steady arm! They couldn't be
more caring and they genuinely want what is best for you.
Reply from Anya Sait, Home Admissions Advisor at Abbotswood Court Care HomeThank you so much for taking the time to write such a lovely review. When I realised I could no longer cope with my broken pelvis at home, my daughter was quick to book in here at Abbotswood Court Care Home having had it recommended from friends with ageing parents. Although initially concerned I'd be too much trouble, I was left in no doubt that that's what round the
clock staff of carers are here for and the senior carers were always willing to discuss self-medication worries of one sort or another and give me liquid morphine on time. The place is kept super clean and the dedicated staff always cheerful and happy to have a little chat and the food consistently tasty and tempting.

I share with my wife a large room with much of our home furniture. The room is bright and airy with good views through a large window. All the staff we meet are very helpful and attentive. Any problems are quickly dealt with. We like the wide corridors and many small lounges. We try to attend many of
the activities which are always well organised. We should like to see more information used for meals and improved presentation. We would like meals about an hour later in the evening. We have only been on one outside trip to the zoo which was very well organised in all respects, particularly the driver and support helpers. We would certainly support further trips. We are very happy here.

Mum has been at Abbotswood since late July and we have been very impressed by the care shown to make her feel at home in her new surroundings. The friendly approach is extended to all family and friends who visit, with coffee and biscuits always offered. It has all gone to make Mum’s transition into
her new life very much less stressful than could have been expected. I’m hugely grateful to all staff.

I recently had a three week stay at Abbotswood. I enjoyed my stay and was very impressed with the staff working there who were both caring and helpful - nothing was too much bother and there was a strong team spirit.
My only disappointment was the food. I don't have a large appetite but I found the
portions too small and there was little choice. I was still hungry after the meal.
Supper was at five, which made the evening very long.
Reply from Debbie Holmes, Home Admissions Manager at Abbotswood Court Care HomeDear James
We wanted to Thank you for the lovely card and compliments you left for us when you went home following your stay with us, much appreciated by the team. We had no idea you were not altogether happy with the meals.
For your next visit we will have to make sure that you’re aware of second helpings at lunch and dinner time. We thought that with 3 courses available at both meals (fresh soup or starter of the day, choice of main course and sweet) we had got this covered, but will be more aware. Residents are always welcome to help themselves to the available fruit bowl, snacks, cakes and biscuits in the residents kitchen area too. For bigger appetites we can also arrange for a supper snack later in the evening for you too. I hope this helps and look forward to seeing you again soon. Abbotswood Court team.

Staying at Abbotswood Court under the supervision of the rehabilitation support has been a delight in all respects. The secret is the people. Every individual I met here has displayed a complete and highly professional approach to all activities associated with me.
This applies to the administration,
the care and the physiotherapy.
Thank you all very much indeed.

Delighted in general. The home is beautifully and cleverly designed and is kept so clean! The staff are very nice and, on the whole, very attentive.

The thing that lets the place down is the food, which I have rated as poor. It tends to be rather dull and repetitive. Their intentions are good. Quite

often they show something nice on the weekly menu and then it doesn't turn out as described and is sometimes not at all appetising.
Reply from Debbie Holmes, HAA at Abbotswood Court Care HomeThank you for your feedback, we are aware you were unhappy with some aspects of the meals and in particular the meat when you wrote your review, which is why we set up the test panel with a new butcher supplier providing samples for residents to try. Since the Supplier Review, on Sunday 29th January we are delighted to hear that you feel the meat has "greatly improved". We will always endeavour to respond to any feedback you or any other residents give us relating to food or any aspect of life here.

The staff at Abbotswood Court welcomed and cared for my mother-in-law for over two years. They had become friends with her and treated her with respect and dignity. She could be difficult but they deal with this behaviour.

Sadly, she passed away on Boxing Day. The staff handled everything associated

with this sad event so well. We were so touched that they dressed her in a favourite outfit before she left for the undertaker. Thank you!

Walking into the home with my husband who was to become a resident in July 2017, I was very much struck by the warmth from the receptionist which carried on as we met the carers who were addressing everyone they met by their name and with a smile. Light, laughter and colour is what struck me as I walked
around and knew that this was the place I would be happy for my husband to stay and to visit him every day. The most important thing was the absence of the usual care home smell. He has been there for the last 5 months, the carers and management are the tops.
They are impressive and extremely well run doing the most difficult jobs in a kind and impressive way.

We are very pleased with Abbotswood Court. It is light, bright and airy with a very comfortable atmosphere and visitors are always made welcome. It is not easy deciding to place a loved one in residential care but the staff work hard at assessing, take individual needs into account and cater for residents
individuality.
There is always some activity going on for residents to engage in if they wish and visitors are welcome to join in too. Mum loves the guinea pigs, enjoys the interactions with staff and staff take care to ensure her wishes are respected. She especially enjoys seeing any visiting well behaved dogs.
We are very happy to recommend Abbotswood Court to future residents. Thank you all!

Mum in law moved into Abbotswood permanently last month, having had several periods of respite and daycare. This was always going to be a challenging time for her and the family as her diagnosis of dementia made her believe that she was still capable of living safely at home with minimal input when
the reality was very different. At every step of this transition, all the staff we have dealt with have been supportive, well informed and understanding. They have shown great kindness and care towards Mum and as a result, she has settled in much more quickly than we ever anticipated. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Abbotswood to anyone.

Current Review Score: 10.0 (9.977)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 10 (9.977) out of 10 for Abbotswood Court Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 36 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 36 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.977 for Abbotswood Court Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (422 Excellents x 5) + (10 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 432 Ratings = 4.977
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Abbotswood Court Care Home is based on 36 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 66 registered maximum number of service users is 13.2, which has been reached with 36 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

I have been working in care for over 20 years and have held a range of positions from Support Worker / Carer to Registered Manager. My experience is with learning disabilities and elderly care, including dementia and palliative care. I love the satisfaction of making a positive difference, however great or small, in the life of someone less able than I am, at whatever stage of life they have reached.

Whilst working in care, I have been lucky enough to receive several awards. In 2005, I was the runner-up in the National Registered Managers category of the National Care Awards and a Local Hero Award for Outstanding Achievement in Care run by the Salisbury Journal and Spire FM. I am proud of both these achievements.

What I do

As Deputy Manager, I work closely with Lea as part of the management team. My previous role was Dementia Manager here at Abbotswood Court, and I continue to directly support residents and families of our dementia community. I regularly meet with our residents’ families and, with Lea, ensure families are as much a part of Abbotswood Court as the residents themselves.

My experience

Since completing my Master's degree in Person-Centred Care in Dementia, I have had 16 years’ experience of supporting people living with dementia across a range of age groups.

About me

I joined Abbotswood Court in 2016, and I strive to educate people, particularly families of those living with dementia, to recognise the positive impact of focusing on the abilities the person still has, rather than dwelling on the abilities they have lost. I am passionate about everyone being treated as an individual, continuing to develop the atmosphere of person-centred care at Abbotswood Court and encouraging my Care Team to achieve the best possible care.

My Experience
