Thank you so very much for taking such good care of our nan over the past four weeks whilst she has been in respite care.
She has thoroughly enjoyed all of the day trips, entertainment, food and a glass of wine!
She has been so well looked after; the staff have truly been incredible, she has formed
some wonderful friendships, and she can't stop talking about all of you.
The most important part of her stay has been interacting with people; we will encourage her to pop in to say hello as often as she can.
She is thrilled to be home but will miss you all so much; thanks once again for everything.

My brother has taught in a primary school and a secondary school for over 40 years. He is a bachelor and was finding it very difficult to cope at home. He was diagnosed with Alzheimer's, and his doctor recommended I find a care home that could provide my brother with the social stimulation that he required.
The
staff at Shinfield View are all very caring and provide my brother with the respect and dignity which he deserves. The activities staff have tried to ensure that he is included in activities within the care home and in outside visits where he can bring out the best of what he remembers from his career. He particularly enjoys his time with the group and their Mums in the garden and when he dances with other residents to tunes played by a visiting band or singers.

Thank you so much, Richard - we love having your brother here with us; he brings so much energy to the home.

A happy home! The staff are very kind, attentive and caring, and there is good interaction with the residents and their families. The residents are well cared for. The home is tastefully decorated and spotlessly clean. The bedrooms have adequate furniture. No one will ever starve during their stay at
Shinfield View, as the quality of the food is exceptional and plentiful! For those residents that wish to participate, there is a very popular events timetable. For those that want quiet time, there is a lovely library room or lobby area with comfortable seating. There is a very nice, secure garden and patio area with tables and chairs.

In late 2021, we realised live-in carers were no longer able to meet our mother's needs. We viewed several care homes and were immediately impressed by Shinfield View - friendly, professional and with all-inclusive fees, no hidden extras.
Mum moved here in December. Staff have dealt brilliantly with
the challenges of Covid and kept us up to date with the home's Covid precautions.
They have worked hard to help Mum settle in and enjoy a better quality of life than was possible in her own home. Her mobility has improved and after years of being housebound, she has been able to join group outings, including to the seaside.
News and photos of outings and activities are posted on the Shinfield View Facebook page - the food always looks splendid!

My father has been at Shinfield for just over a year now, having been assessed as not being able to manage at home. As a family, we feel extremely lucky that he is there. We can finally stop worrying about him. The care he is receiving is second to none, and all the staff that make the place function
so well are amazing. Over the year, he has had so many experiences that he could never have had being at home by himself. There is always something interesting going on; the birds of prey come and visit, there were reindeer at Christmas and he’s even been ice skating in his wheelchair. In addition, I cannot fault how Shinfield has functioned with the constant threat of Covid either. The emphasis has been on keeping the residents safe while still making their lives interesting and fulfilled. Thank you, everyone.
Reply from Nicola Orwin, Deputy Manager at Shinfield View

Thank you so much Jenny for your kind words, it is a pleasure to care for your dad and we are so happy he joins in with the activities here. We love seeing you and your sister when you come to visit and hope you feel just as at home as Dad does. Thank you for all of your support.

I have known about Shinfield View's consistently excellent care for some time because another relative has been well looked after there. I was certain that my mum's quality of life, overall health and sense of purpose and joy would improve if only I could persuade her to move there. And this has been
the case, without a doubt. It was a difficult process to get my mum to accept the need to leave her beloved home but everyone at Shinfield View made it as painless as it could be. Due to the warm, loving care and attention to the small personal details which make all the difference, my mum has settled more quickly than any of us could have imagined. I know she is safe, well-fed, taking her medicines properly and she is definitely much happier.

We looked at many care homes before we chose Shinfield View. As we were being shown around, I could imagine Mum being happy there. It felt luxurious as well as homely. The residents all looked happy and busy with activities, and there were lots of friendly and jolly staff.
Mum is there now and settling
in. It’s never easy when you realise that your loved one needs to be cared for in a home, but the staff welcomed Mum with open arms and made her feel very special.
She’s now enjoying the delicious food, the company, and the many activities they put on daily for everyone.
The staff are always on the end of the phone for queries and updates, and it feels very reassuring to know Mum is not only safe and cared for but also active and happy. There is a lot of attention to detail in ensuring residents enjoy their time there… they’re not only being looked after but really living!

Moving a parent into a care home is a big decision, especially when the individual has dementia and does not understand why they cannot stay at home. However, we did make that decision last July for Mum's own safety, and the team at Shinfield View have been brilliant. Despite being made very welcome
by friendly, caring and professional staff, it did take time for her to settle, but she does now seem to have got there and refers to Shinfield View as her home and says that she enjoys living there. She participates in the activities, has made new friends and appears happier than she has done for several years. We viewed a number of care homes as part of the decision-making process, and we are delighted with the care that Mum receives.

Parents originally went into the home for one month's respite back in October 2021.
Due to circumstances, this was extended.
Parents are now both full-time residents and have both expressed satisfaction with the service they receive.
Whilst any care home will never come close to their own home,
Shinfield View does try its hardest to do so.
All staff are friendly and approachable, and all staff know parents names. My parents, who are not high dependency by any means, have named points of contact for their daily needs and have a good relationship with all staff.
A care home is like attending a new school, it takes a while to settle in, people have their own routines and quirky habits, it's possible not all attendees get along. At Shinfield View, everybody appears to get along, and if they don't, you wouldn't know.
Activities - excellent.
My dad has been Air Rifle shooting! Enough said.
If you are looking for a 4-5 star care home who truly do care, then look no further than Shinfield View.

First-class care was provided. When my mum went into care, there was every reassurance given. If I had any questions or concerns, they are dealt with almost immediately.
Lots of activities going on during the day so my mum wasn't left sat in a room on her own.
Considering the continued difficulties
due to Covid, they are managing this effectively and communication is good.
The staff are warm and friendly and doing an amazing job.

My brother and I moved our sister here in March following a very positive recommendation from a family friend. She has advanced dementia. We have both been really impressed by the way she has responded to the move. She looks much better, mainly due to the personal care she receives from the staff. They
ensure she is well-groomed, and this is something that would have been very important to the person that she used to be. All the staff we have met have been interested to know about her life before dementia set in, which I think shows their respect for her as a person.
Although she cannot join in with many of the activities, she is more alert and interested in her surroundings than she was in her previous home. We have been made to feel welcome when we visit, and I feel the Covid situation has been well managed. I would not hesitate to recommend Shinfield View to anyone looking for safe, warm and respectful care for a loved one.

My father went into the home after having a fall. It was decided that he needed to go into full-time care, and Shinfield View was recommended. After a shaky start, he has become more animated, able to remember activities, healthier and in his words, "quite likes it here", which from him, is praise indeed.
My sister and I are overjoyed at his progress. We cannot thank or fault the staff for their care, enthusiasm, joyousness in dealing with elderly people and their families.

Placing one of your parents into a residential care home is never going to be easy and this, coupled with the current coronavirus situation, made this a really difficult decision for us to be confronted with. The staff at Shinfield have been absolutely marvellous at making our father feel welcome and
quickly settled, in spite of these difficult times. Dad is an Alzheimer's patient, and it's a real comfort to know that he is on a dedicated floor where staff can look after him with his special needs in mind. Fortunately, he has had both his covid vaccines before arriving at Shinfield and now that quarantine is over, he can participate in all the activities offered, which he is loving. As we cannot visit Dad, communication is absolutely vital for us, and this is available 24-hours a day. A-Zoom tour of the home showed us just how beautiful and comfortable the place is, and we are so happy to know Dad is being taken care of in such a lovely setting. Thank you so much for everything.

Shinfield View did everything possible to admit my sister within 24-hours, following a Covid test and succeeded. She has twice been hospitalised through seizures, and I have been constantly updated. Shinfield View has now enacted a rapid response team to keep her in the home so that she does not have
constant hospitalisation. I cannot rate them too highly. They really know her, and this is a huge relief during Covid lockdown.

My husband went to Shinfield View for respite during January whilst we moved house. I can honestly say that it was like a 5* hotel, not a care home and he was treated with so much care and attention during his stay. Due to Covid, he had to stay in his own room for the first week, but the staff frequently
visited him, and he was very happy. With everything inclusive, this home offers a most professional approach to care and a large number of staff are all very attentive, cheerful and respectful. He enjoyed his stay, says the food was excellent, and during the few days he was allowed to partake in activities; he enjoyed the company of other residents. We will certainly use again. From my first enquiry to collecting my husband after his stay, I felt very comfortable that this had been an excellent choice.

Shinfield View runs a very special home, and we cannot express our sorrow for the problems that have beset the home of late. No-one could have foreseen what you have had to deal with over the last nine months. That you have fronted up to the issues and been so transparent is also a credit to you. The
management should feel proud of the way you have dealt with this, we have always been impressed with your approach, that nothing is ever too much trouble and you always try to do whatever people ask of you without hesitation. Sadly, my mother passed away in November and was never able to take full advantage of what you have to offer at Shinfield View because her dementia was already too far advanced when she arrived with you. We actually regret not having transferred her to you sooner, because, we think it would have slowed the onset if we had done so. Many of the staff tried to engage her, and we thank them for that. The staff on the 1st floor gave outstanding care in her final weeks, and we are forever grateful.

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.489)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.489) out of 10 for Shinfield View is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.6 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.907 for Shinfield View is calculated as follows: ( (98 Excellents x 5) + (10 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 108 Ratings = 4.907
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.582 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Shinfield View is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 66 registered maximum number of service users is 13.2. 9 Positive Reviews ÷ 13.2 = 0.682
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
