Dad has been a resident at Shinfield View for 8 months now. He settled in very quickly and loves all the care and attention he receives from the staff.
There's always some kind of activity going on during the day. The Visitor Pod enables us to visit Dad whenever we want and we can keep in touch with
him via Zoom, Facetime or Skype.
The staff are wonderful and very dedicated to the residents in their care, some of them moved into the home during the height of the Pandemic.
Dad is receiving the very best of care and we cannot recommend Shinfield View highly enough.
Reply from Amanda Tanner, General Manager at Shinfield View

My mother has been a resident here for the last 10 months. She came directly from hospital with pressure sores and weight loss, also reduced mobility. In spite of not being a nursing home the care she has received has been exemplary. The staff of Shinfield View collectively put their arms around her
and delivered a transformation. They healed her sores, fed her food she could eat and mobilised her. She gained weight, comfort and a renewed interest in life in spite of her extreme age (101). She has escaped Covid as it swept through the home due to the care and diligence of all looking after her and you all have my enduring gratitude.

Martin that is an absolutely wonderful review, thank you so so much. We love having Mum with us very much - what an incredible lady!

My mother has been in the home for almost 18 months and it is the best decision we ever made for her care. I live in the USA and although I normally visit 4 times/year that has obviously not been possible this year. This could have been incredibly stressful for both of us, but Mum has been very happy
to be at Shinfield View. The care she has received is excellent and the food is spectacular (I can say that from experience as prior to the lockdown I was able to visit and partake in their offerings and apparently it is still as good!).
The team have tried to adapt to our "new normal" with the introduction of the visiting pod (which I have yet to experience personally). Although the social activities and excursions have changed, they are still keeping Mum entertained. The staff keep me informed about her health and any treatment and are extremely responsive to my requests.
I consider the staff and management team to be part of my extended family and they have my complete trust.

My mother was accepted into Shinfield during the very challenging period of COVID-19 (the home has not experienced any outbreaks of the virus). She had been living on her own, with the help of carers, but was deteriorating very quickly and we were all very concerned for her wellbeing. Whilst the initial
period of barrier nursing brought its challenges, my mother has been so carefully looked after, both physically and emotionally that she has begun to make a full recovery. She is enjoying more social activities than she has for years, making friends and enjoying the wonderful food. She is always well dressed, her hair and nails are regularly attended to and her room is well kept. It has been an enormous relief to everyone in the family to know how well she is being cared for by the amazing, professional staff. We cannot thank them enough.

Overall it has been a very liberating and satisfying experience, placing my mother, who has Alzheimer's, with Shinfield View. In addition, I have witnessed, not only the care and concern for my mother but all the residents. Carers give a great deal of themselves.

It is of great comfort to me to know that my wife, who has Alzheimer's is being looked after very well. It was therefore easy to complete the questionnaire. My wife paces the corridors a considerable amount of her time and has, as a result when I visit, I sit in the corridor in order to spend as much
time as possible with her. Sitting in the corridor I see a lot of activity of staff and residents and it is very reassuring to see how kind and considerate staff are with residents and how helpful staff are with visitors. It is easy to understand why Shinfield View was rated 'Outstanding' by CQC.

I opted to have meals in my room but from ordering my meal to actually receiving it, could be up to one hour, three times my desert course didn't arrive. My evening meal before returning home the next day didn't even arrive. I managed to contact a member of staff and she came back with 3 small tired-looking
sandwiches and a yoghurt. She said the kitchen was closed.

Shinfield View recently hosted an 80th Birthday party for my mother in law. Providing the facilities to be able to do this amazing in itself but combined with the enthusiasm and professionalism of all the staff made it a very special day for her. Nothing was too much trouble.

After a long drive, we were greeted by really friendly and professional staff. We were offered a drink and a beautiful lunch. The grounds are beautiful and staff were attentive and the engagement from staff to residents was excellent. The home is immaculately clean and my wife's Aunt is extremely happy

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.489)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.489) out of 10 for Shinfield View is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.6 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.907 for Shinfield View is calculated as follows: ( (98 Excellents x 5) + (10 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 108 Ratings = 4.907
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.582 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Shinfield View is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 66 registered maximum number of service users is 13.2. 9 Positive Reviews ÷ 13.2 = 0.682
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
