Placing one of your parents into a residential care home is never going to be easy and this, coupled with the current coronavirus situation, made this a really difficult decision for us to be confronted with. The staff at Shinfield have been absolutely marvellous at making our father feel welcome and quickly settled, in spite of these difficult times. Dad is an Alzheimer's patient, and it's a real comfort to know that he is on a dedicated floor where staff can look after him with his special needs in mind. Fortunately, he has had both his covid vaccines before arriving at Shinfield and now that quarantine is over, he can participate in all the activities offered, which he is loving. As we cannot visit Dad, communication is absolutely vital for us, and this is available 24-hours a day. A-Zoom tour of the home showed us just how beautiful and comfortable the place is, and we are so happy to know Dad is being taken care of in such a lovely setting. Thank you so much for everything.

Shinfield View did everything possible to admit my sister within 24-hours, following a Covid test and succeeded. She has twice been hospitalised through seizures, and I have been constantly updated. Shinfield View has now enacted a rapid response team to keep her in the home so that she does not have constant hospitalisation. I cannot rate them too highly. They really know her, and this is a huge relief during Covid lockdown.

Overall Experience

My husband went to Shinfield View for respite during January whilst we moved house. I can honestly say that it was like a 5* hotel, not a care home and he was treated with so much care and attention during his stay. Due to Covid, he had to stay in his own room for the first week, but the staff frequently visited him, and he was very happy. With everything inclusive, this home offers a most professional approach to care and a large number of staff are all very attentive, cheerful and respectful. He enjoyed his stay, says the food was excellent, and during the few days he was allowed to partake in activities; he enjoyed the company of other residents. We will certainly use again. From my first enquiry to collecting my husband after his stay, I felt very comfortable that this had been an excellent choice.

Shinfield View runs a very special home, and we cannot express our sorrow for the problems that have beset the home of late. No-one could have foreseen what you have had to deal with over the last nine months. That you have fronted up to the issues and been so transparent is also a credit to you. The management should feel proud of the way you have dealt with this, we have always been impressed with your approach, that nothing is ever too much trouble and you always try to do whatever people ask of you without hesitation. Sadly, my mother passed away in November and was never able to take full advantage of what you have to offer at Shinfield View because her dementia was already too far advanced when she arrived with you. We actually regret not having transferred her to you sooner, because, we think it would have slowed the onset if we had done so. Many of the staff tried to engage her, and we thank them for that. The staff on the 1st floor gave outstanding care in her final weeks, and we are forever grateful.

Dad has been a resident at Shinfield View for 8 months now. He settled in very quickly and loves all the care and attention he receives from the staff.
There's always some kind of activity going on during the day. The Visitor Pod enables us to visit Dad whenever we want and we can keep in touch with him via Zoom, Facetime or Skype.
The staff are wonderful and very dedicated to the residents in their care, some of them moved into the home during the height of the Pandemic.

Dad is receiving the very best of care and we cannot recommend Shinfield View highly enough.

My mother has been a resident here for the last 10 months. She came directly from hospital with pressure sores and weight loss, also reduced mobility. In spite of not being a nursing home the care she has received has been exemplary. The staff of Shinfield View collectively put their arms around her and delivered a transformation. They healed her sores, fed her food she could eat and mobilised her. She gained weight, comfort and a renewed interest in life in spite of her extreme age (101). She has escaped Covid as it swept through the home due to the care and diligence of all looking after her and you all have my enduring gratitude.

My mother has been in the home for almost 18 months and it is the best decision we ever made for her care. I live in the USA and although I normally visit 4 times/year that has obviously not been possible this year. This could have been incredibly stressful for both of us, but Mum has been very happy to be at Shinfield View. The care she has received is excellent and the food is spectacular (I can say that from experience as prior to the lockdown I was able to visit and partake in their offerings and apparently it is still as good!).
The team have tried to adapt to our "new normal" with the introduction of the visiting pod (which I have yet to experience personally). Although the social activities and excursions have changed, they are still keeping Mum entertained. The staff keep me informed about her health and any treatment and are extremely responsive to my requests.

I consider the staff and management team to be part of my extended family and they have my complete trust.

My mother was accepted into Shinfield during the very challenging period of COVID-19 (the home has not experienced any outbreaks of the virus). She had been living on her own, with the help of carers, but was deteriorating very quickly and we were all very concerned for her wellbeing. Whilst the initial period of barrier nursing brought its challenges, my mother has been so carefully looked after, both physically and emotionally that she has begun to make a full recovery. She is enjoying more social activities than she has for years, making friends and enjoying the wonderful food. She is always well dressed, her hair and nails are regularly attended to and her room is well kept. It has been an enormous relief to everyone in the family to know how well she is being cared for by the amazing, professional staff. We cannot thank them enough.

It is of great comfort to me to know that my wife, who has Alzheimer's is being looked after very well. It was therefore easy to complete the questionnaire. My wife paces the corridors a considerable amount of her time and has, as a result when I visit, I sit in the corridor in order to spend as much time as possible with her. Sitting in the corridor I see a lot of activity of staff and residents and it is very reassuring to see how kind and considerate staff are with residents and how helpful staff are with visitors. It is easy to understand why Shinfield View was rated 'Outstanding' by CQC.

I opted to have meals in my room but from ordering my meal to actually receiving it, could be up to one hour, three times my desert course didn't arrive. My evening meal before returning home the next day didn't even arrive. I managed to contact a member of staff and she came back with 3 small tired-looking sandwiches and a yoghurt. She said the kitchen was closed.
