While this well appointed home in an excellent location ticks all the boxes, the most important aspect is the staff. In our experience the staff are professional and caring, from the cleaners through to the management. It is a happy place. Apart from my wife currently a resident a close friend received end of life care last year. He was treated with compassion and dignity to the end which was some solace to his family. It is expensive but hard to find fault

I stayed at Hazelwell on respite care after a fall breaking my shoulder I have a neurological condition which impairs my balance and I now live on my own so having care whilst my shoulder healed was essential The location of hazelwell must be one of the best on the Wirral nestling on the edge of the dales My room overlooked the dales and the rivers Dee. The care I received from the carers to the cleaners the chef and the taxi service to appointments was first class ànd I will never forget them all Thank you Hazelwell.

I am referring to the Hazelwell Care Home event and apologise for the delay. Everything was set up outside in warm weather but sadly there was flash storm and everything had to be moved inside! Chaos soon was calmed down and the programme continued. The atmosphere was positive and the afternoon ran very well despite being a little cramped. The attention from the staff was superb and they ensured everyone was safe and enjoying themselves. The food provided for refreshment was excellent as usual.

Generally a very good experience over 3 weeks of respite with rooms, care, staff, and food being of top quality and expectations. The meal experience in ground floor dining room was sometimes disappointing as the company was often disinterested in making conversation. I have a suggestion on a separate suggestion form, which might be helpful. Also had a problem with laundry taking many days to reappear or sometimes missing altogether in spite of the best efforts of the staff to locate missing items.

We have been visiting a friend for 4 weeks and have found the staff to be friendly, courteous and helpful. I have observed the staff with residents and have noticed how calm they seem to be with them. My friend is well looked after and his needs are catered for. He is happy with his room and meals. It was lovely to be invited to a celebration of VE Day and participate in the activities. A lovely lunch was provided for residents and guests.

My brother, aged 81,with cerebral palsy and several complex needs, was a resident at Hazelwell for nearly two years. He sadly died ,in Feb, from an internal bleed.
I,and the family, were so pleased that we found Hazelwell for him for his final years.
The care he has had, both for his health and wellbeing, has been excellent.
The Carers have been so good with him, providing care, support and friendship. Also, many activities which he has enjoyed - games, talks, music etc.
The food has been excellent, lots of tea breaks, too,in between mealtimes!
All the staff have been lovely-both to my brother, and always to me,and to family and friends, when we visited. We have been made to feel welcome and involved with staff and other residents.

Hazelwell has a warm and homely atmosphere generally.I would recommend it to anyone who requires a secure and loving environment for a loved one.

The staff team and Management have been excellent with my mother and made her last days/weeks with end of life comfortable ensuring respect, care and consideration. I couldn't have asked for more, a home from home. The co-ordination of the team is commendable, especially in our time of need for all the family. I would not hesitate to recommend Hazelwell as a home for their care and compassion. Although a resident for a short time this made a world of difference in her last weeks.

A very big heartfelt THANKYOU!

Don't go here for nursing care. A very disappointing respite experience, poor care and inadequate staffing. Management had been reassuring in advance, confident that they could meet my relative's nursing needs, but the reality was very different. We had hoped for rehab support during respite, but a poor standard of nursing left her immobile, unable to even move in bed - and the nurses seemed to think this was fine. If it had not needed an ambulance to move her, she would have left after 2 days. She came out in much worse condition than she went in, had caught a UTI, and lost a lot of weight. The home's decisions around handling some acute symptoms seemed to surprise both paramedics and a GP. Care was often patronising, nursing seemed disorganised (e.g. missed meds until mum asked about them), and long waits (sometimes hours) for support were common. She wasn't offered any activities. On the plus side, a few of the care staff were friendly and competent. The Wi-Fi was fine.

When my Aunt ( a widow with no children) needed more and more support with her dementia/Alzheimer's and the combined help of family and care workers wasn't enough, it was time to look at 24-hour care. We visited other homes but this one felt so inviting and offered everything she needed. After a respite visit, she was happy to move in full-time. She is sociable and thoroughly enjoys the activities programme. The staff are friendly, approachable, respectful and caring. The meals and wine are good and another opportunity to socialise. Auntie has lived in Hazelwell for over a year now and is very happy there which is hugely reassuring for us. In fact, her sister and myself only hope when our time comes that we will be able to spend our last days in Hazelwell too.

Throughout the month of December, the Care Home team have been very busy with the organisation of events and there has been a full timetable. The residents have all been entertained by a number of visiting local groups and performances and the Care Home has been beautifully decorated for Christmas. There has been a warm and friendly Christmas atmosphere and the candlelit Christmas carols evening in particular, was a very special event. The Care Staff have had a lot of events that may have compromised their routines but they have all been wonderful.

Also the December Saturday 'chat' groups have all been about Christmas traditions past and present and the residents have been able to chat about and share memories of past Christmases A lot of work and research goes into putting together the chatterday group meetings and they have been very successful throughout the year in bringing together residents to talk, to share their experiences and to reminisce.

My dad was admitted in June 2024 for nursing care, initially for 3 weeks respite care during a house move. This then became permanent when his health deteriorated, a condition that the nursing team identified almost straight after admittance (after having at-home care for 6 months). We had no hesitation in making Hazelwell our permanent choice when the need became permanent. The standard of nursing care is excellent and the staff are all superb - including the support, management and kitchen staff. All are so supportive, friendly, respectful and compassionate. This means so much to us as Dad's family. For him. And for us. There is always someone on hand to attend his needs, day and night, which is very comforting for us. They are very proactive about introducing other medical professionals as and when they identify a need. We are all allowed to spend as much time as we want with Dad, day or night, even having Xmas dinner with him in his room. I cannot recommend Hazelwell enough.
