Poor care and lack of dignity shown to our relative. Hazelwell states "Our elderly care services include Residential Care, Nursing Care, Dementia Care, Respite Care, and Palliative Care, and are always enhanced with a daily wellbeing programme tailored to our resident's interests and preferences so that each resident gets the care and support they deserve." At best Hazelwell provide residential and minimal nursing care. Inadequate staffing levels to provide proper care and support. If you requires nursing care, this is not the home for you.

My mum was a resident at Hazelwell receiving end-of-life care. The staff are tremendous, always polite, always cheerful and nothing was ever too much trouble for them. The compassion and warmth shown to Mum's family during regular visits and at the end of her life was exceptional.
The home is absolutely immaculately maintained and is a most friendly, welcoming place.

I cannot recommend Hazelwell highly enough, they are what should be the benchmark of care/nursing homes.

My mother passed away at The Hazelwell Care Home in March of this year.

The care and compassion shown to my mum in the final stages of her life was exemplary. A similar level of care and support was shown to my mum's family that were present with her in the final stage of her life.

Dad went to Hazelwell for 3 weeks of respite in November 2023, he was determined to come out, but the respite served its purpose - we wanted him to realise that care homes aren’t the terrible places that he had in his mind, therefore when - after Christmas his dementia deteriorated substantially, he wasn’t fearful about returning to Hazelwell on a permanent basis. He was fairly immobile by now, and was using walking aids, so this did restrict his movement around the home that he found rather frustrating having been a very active man. From January to April of this year, he was looked after with the utmost kindness and respect. The management team are extremely approachable and are quick to respond to queries or concerns that we - as relatives may have. There are too many people to name individually, but every single staff member at Hazwellwell plays their part without exception. Sadly Dad passed and we couldn’t have asked for a better place for him to live out his last months. Thank you.

Overall Experience

After my mother passed away, my sister and I 'inherited' a 97-year-old grandmother who was fiercely independent. She had had previous respite stays at two other local care homes but really didn't like the experiences. As such, my sister and I struggled trying to convince her that as her frailty increased, having extra support immediately on hand was a positive step. Following a hospital admission, Gran took a three-week respite stay at The Hazelwell Care Home and never left. The staff were great, care for Gran first-class and she never stopped saying how good the food was. Visitors were made to feel so very welcome and I could speak to the care staff 24 hours a day with any concerns over Gran's health. Gran was reluctant to join in with some of the activity sessions but we caught her having a jolly giggle in them on quite a few occasions. I can't speak highly enough of how good the year of Gran's stay was for her, from care, food, entertainment, privacy, respect and communication.

Thank you for taking the time to write a detailed review with such kind words. It can be a daunting experience, deciding to live in a care home, especially when previous experiences haven't always been positive. I am glad that we were able to make Gran feel welcome and I know she enjoyed some of our activities more than others! I will make sure the staff are made aware of your kind comments.

In the eight months, or so, that Dad was a resident in The Hazelwell Care Home, both he and the family were treated with respect. His care, even as his health failed, was second to none. The staff and management were exceptional and the atmosphere in the care home was always warm and friendly. Sadly, Dad passed away, rather unexpectedly in hospital after a short illness, aged 94 years, on 19th December. Even now, The Hazelwell Care Home continue to support.

Thank you!

My father spent ten months at The Hazelwell Care Home and clearly enjoyed the experience and he considered it comparable to a luxury hotel. Dad’s room had views of Wales and outdoor spaces were available on each floor, which he made full use of. He also took full advantage of the numerous activities and events and of course, the wonderful food. The staff were very supportive to both my father and the wider family as his illness progressed; we are very grateful for their care.

Such a lovely care home, all the staff have been very friendly and helpful on each visit. On my most recent visit, the chef agreed that I could have dinner with my friend in the celebration room, the food was lovely we both enjoyed it (compliments to the chef). My wife and I were invited to join the residents of The Hazelwell Care Home in a Coronation celebration on the day after the event. We were warmly welcomed and invited to partake in an amazing spread of food and to have a drink. It was all excellent. For three hours we were entertained by a pianist and then by a musician and singer, singing period-related songs for the gathering. There was a voluntary raffle and the prizes were flowers to grace any room. In all, we had a most enjoyable and memorable time.

Having been here 12 weeks, the first 3 as special care after several weeks in hospital after a fall. Having lived alone for 29 years since my wife died, I have decided to become a permanent resident here. I am now 94 (in June). The celebration room and lounge make special occasions feel as though you've been out somewhere and returned home.

Any chance of improving the mobile phone connection? (I release the ridge is the problem!).

My parents recently moved into The Hazelwell Care Home and have settled in very well, thanks to the caring and professional staff. On Sunday we enjoyed a great family occasion in the celebration room. The meal was really lovely and the twelve of us were able to enjoy teas and coffee in the very comfortable lounge afterwards. I would like to thank the manager, chef and all the staff who went out of their way to make this a really special day for our family. We all had a fantastic time.

I have been visiting my family for two months and felt warm and welcome from the very first visit. Today, twelve of us gathered for lunch in the celebration room for a diamond wedding anniversary for my sister-in-law's sister and her husband. After a celebratory prosecco in their room, we were escorted to lunch by two staff - delicious tomato soup, roast beef and trimmings and an eton mess and coffee. Next, to the lounge for more coffee and a chat. We had a wonderful time and it enabled our resident relatives to enjoy a very special family occasion. I can't speak highly enough of all at The Hazelwell Care Home for their care and attention to residents and visitors.

I recently visited my grandma for the first time since she became a resident at The Hazelwell Care Home. I was overjoyed to see how happy and settled she was in the few short months she had been at the home.
The care and commitment from all of the team from nursing/care staff to admin staff is exceptional.

Our aunty was cared for at The Hazelwell Care Home in the last months of her life and we cannot thank the staff and management enough for the care and love they showed us all, not just our aunt.
We were made to feel as though we were part of the community rather than just visiting our relative.
