Following 4 admissions to hospital in 7 weeks, we finally persuaded my elderly frail mother to go into respite care for two weeks. Although initially reluctant, she thrived during the fortnight and decided to extend her stay & has now become a permanent resident. She is very well looked after, has made friends with both staff and residents & her only complaint is that she has gained weight because the food is so good! Knowing that she is in a safe place has given us a tremendous relief and peace of mind.

My father had been a resident of The Fernes since July 2024. He settled in well and was very happy. The staff were very friendly and caring and Dad got on well with them all. As a regular visitor I was also very impressed as the home was always very clean and tidy and all the staff were very welcoming. Sadly my father passed away on the 14th October 2025 but I can't praise the staff at The Fernes enough for the care, dignity and compassion that they gave Dad in his last five or six difficult weeks. These final weeks meant that he needed more attention and time from the staff and I was so pleased that he passed at The Fernes and not in hospital. Thanks.

I have had a really good experience at The Fernes. Everyone has been incredibly kind and caring, always ready to go the extra mile with a quick response to the buzzer. The facilities are excellent, the room was well appointed and kept very clean with a comfortable bed. The time of the evening meal is too early but is probably dictated by staffing demands. The glass water jug supplied to the bedrooms is too heavy but a plastic one was supplied when asked. My name is Farzana, and I have been working as a Care Assistant at The Fernes for the past three years. I truly enjoy spending time with both my colleagues and our residents, and it is a privilege to be part of their daily lives.
Working at The Fernes has been an incredibly rewarding experience. I feel proud and fortunate to be part of such a caring, supportive, and dedicated team. Every day brings new opportunities to make a positive difference in the lives of our residents, and I am grateful to work in such a special environment.
I am passionate about my role and genuinely love working at The Fernes. It has become like a second family to me, with wonderful colleagues and residents who make every day meaningful. Hello, my name is Sophie,
I have been working within the care sector for over 30 years and have enjoyed many different aspects within that time, including personal one-to-one home care, domiciliary and nursing, etc.
I joined Barchester Healthcare in 2021 and have enjoyed a few different roles here at The Fernes, one of which was activities coordinator.
My passion is helping our residents feel at home and as independent as possible and, most of all, happy.
I take great pride in my work and our home and love welcoming residents and their families and friends old and new.
When I’m not at work, I enjoy spending time with my family, my dog (who is a cockapoo named Alfie) and my new love of gardening.
