Hartford Court is a purpose-built care home set right in the heart of Portsmouth within the Guardian’s Gate housing development adjacent to St Mary’s hospital and has a team of dedicated, caring and loving staff who support residents and their individual needs.

Hartford Court is spread over two distinct floors that offer different yet complementary care to the people of Portsmouth and surrounding areas. The ground floor offers empowering residential care where every one of their residents have their independence championed and their individual preferences supported.

On the first floor the home has a highly positive dementia specialist floor which incorporates a range of cleverly hidden elements that make living with dementia as positive an experience as possible. Highly-trained and empathetic staff make sure that each and every day their residents are greeted with a smiling face and a respectful demeanour from every member of staff that they encounter. Activities have been designed to be interesting yet meaningful and so give the residents reason to get involved rather than just filling time.

All of the individually designed bedrooms are comfortable, beautifully furnished and complete with a large and spacious wet room. The first floor also enjoys a comfortable terrace from which the residents can enjoy continuous access to the fresh air for relaxation. All rooms come with a flat screen TV and for those residents that wish there is a direct dial telephone.

Residents can socialise in the communal areas or relax in the beautiful gardens along with enjoying all inclusive home cooked meals in the dining room. Hartford Court also benefits from a hairdressing salon, inclusive daily activity schedule including trips out, access to video calling and an all inclusive laundry service.

Lovely care home. Great staff and facilities. A few more 'older person' activities are needed - music, films etc. Very safe and great food.

Care is excellent. Polite, kind and looking after your welfare at all times.
Need more carers sometimes, not enough for the number of residents, although their needs are always met.

My mother resided at the care home Formerly West Cliff Care Home later Hartford Care Home for around three years. She loved being at the care home she called it her hotel and enjoyed the privacy she was afforded. The lovely large room and private bathroom. Her room looked out onto large open fields
with views over the Solent and the passing ships as well as seeing deer, horses, foxes and cattle which remind her of the New Forrest her favourite place.
The staff at all times were very attentive if needed and were always friendly, polite and courteous. Overall it was a real home from home for her.

The staff were anxious that as a Parkinson's sufferer I needed my medication at the exact time. This happened almost 100% of the time.

The staff were delightful and nothing was too much trouble. The food was freshly cooked and looked appetising.

I would recommend this care home.

I cannot speak highly enough of the splendid care given to my relative. All the staff I have met are friendly, professional, caring and patient. The staff always greet you with a smile and you are made to feel so welcome. Staff go the extra mile to make a connection with my Mum in law whose care needs
fluctuate greatly. The food is good and residents are often consulted on their likes and dislikes. The team liaise with GPs and other healthcare team members very effectively and always feed back to us, the family. We count ourselves lucky to have found such a lovely home for our relative.

Visited my mother at Hartford Court this morning. She looked really well and while chatting said: 'We are all so happy here, everyone gets on so well, I never thought it would be as nice as this.' Thankyou to all staff at Hartford Court who have given her such good quality of life since she moved in
9 months ago.

Hartford Court Is well designed, tastefully furnished and decorated. It is homely, light, airy yet warm, and comfortable. Staff and care programme are second to none. Mum is safe and happy, in a loving, caring environment where every need is catered for: emotional, social, physical, mental and spiritual.
All staff, (who are easily identifiable in smart, bright uniforms), demonstrate the highest standard of commitment and care.

Mum's bedroom and ensuite bathroom give security, privacy and comfort. For social times she can use small, comfortable lounges or larger spaces for whole group activities. All facilities are of a high standard. The food is excellent; the chef's mantra seems to be that nothing is too much trouble.

The 'open door policy' means we can visit, (with children and dog), at any time, and allows the residents to really feel Hartford Court is their home where they can entertain their family. Using Facebook allows us to see what Mum and her friends have been doing.

My nan has been here for quite a few months now and I honestly cannot recommend this care home enough. I have visited so many care homes whilst looking for one and none have even come close to Hartford court. My nan suffered from dementia and paranoia quite severely before she came here but the improvement
I have seen in this is unbelievable. She is so aware, response, happy to see us, not confused and not paranoid. she now has a life of her own, surrounded by people who understand her. Every member of staff makes you feel so welcome like it is a second home. My nan can be fussy with food and the chef will always make her something different to eat is on the menu if that's is what she would like. She is also taken out regularly from going to the beach to going for coffee to going to the social club. Also, Harvey, the dog is an added bonus!

The peace of mind that we have knowing that Aunt is well cared for and stimulated to engage in a wide variety of activities means a great deal. Moving a dear relative into care, leaving the home she had lived in for decades, was an emotional task. She has settled quickly, has put on weight and is busier
than she has been for a number of years. Staff know their residents as individuals and visitors are made to feel like part of the wider family, welcome to visit at any time.

Mum went into Hartford Court for respite care. The care and support she was given were the best I could have hoped for. Mum enjoyed joining in with all the activities that were provided.
Friends and relatives that visited equated Hartford Court as a five-star hotel. I could not have agreed more.
Mum
is due to go back again in March again for respite and she is looking forward to it.
I cannot fault the care that Mum has received.

My mother moved to Hartford Court in July after several weeks in hospital following a fall. It is a beautiful home with lovely gardens. The bedrooms and common rooms are bright and nicely decorated. The staff are amazing, cheerful and kind. Nothing is too much trouble. Family and visitors are made welcome
whenever they visit. A special bonus is Harvey the resident dog.
My Mum regards this as her home and feels safe and content. It is good for her to have company after years of living alone. Recommend Hartford Court most highly.

Hartford Court Care Home has a bright and vibrant modern interior with beautiful furnishings. There are tailored bespoke communal areas which are very comfortable for guests to relax in. All staff are very passionate, caring and happy. The food is also 5* star quality.

The home takes pride in a non-discriminatory

service, which respects freedoms of choice, dignity, respect and confidentiality.

Bedrooms are top spec with en-suite bathrooms.

Would highly recommend.

My mum went to Hartford Court for 2 weeks respite care after having a foot operation. She is 75 years old and suffers with Parkinson's so felt worried about going home. The building was amazing and had a warm feeling from the outset. Above all that was the professionalism and friendliness of the staff!
They immediately made my mum feel at home and welcomed myself and 2 daughters into mums temporary "home". I have no complaints they treated my mum with respect and she especially enjoyed "teaching" the chef how to make scones!! Mum is ready for home and not quite ready for full time care but it has been perfect for her needs. Thanks.

Early days as the home has only been open once a month and my aunt only the third person in but excellent care given 24/7. Beautiful surroundings. Lovely rooms and decor, excellent staff, manager making good efforts to link in with community. Local school gave a music concert this morning. Residents
all stimulated one to one attention, at the moment my aunt has been taken out twice already. Excellent home cooked food- residents can choose an alternative to planned dish. Fresh fruit and cakes served everyday and family and friends made very welcome. First class!!

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.652)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.652) out of 10 for Hartford Court is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 19 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.677 for Hartford Court is calculated as follows: ( (164 Excellents x 5) + (52 Goods x 4) + (9 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 226 Ratings = 4.677
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.975 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Hartford Court is based on 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.975
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 64 registered maximum number of service users is 12.8, which has been reached with 19 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
