Both my parents received excellent care there. They had very different needs but they were all met. When my parents were well enough they were included in various activities. They organised a lovely party for my mother's birthday and another for their 70th wedding anniversary. They worked very closely
with the hospice and palliative care nurse to ensure painless and dignified deaths.

The care home and caregivers are on the whole fine. The problem is gaining access to visit relatives after 5pm and at weekends. The website says the home is open 24 hours therefore a security guard should be on duty to allow visitors in and out, it should not be up to the caregivers, their responsibility
is to the residents not having to keep an eye on the door.
Reply from Jackie Scott, Manager at Wulfrun Rose Nursing HomeThank you for the kind words regarding the care team. I will take your concerns regarding access to senior management.

I have come in for 4 weeks of respite. I have found it very good for my needs. The staff are really good. They are very friendly and look after me really well. It's been like a new lease of life for me, meeting and talking to different people. At home, I'm stuck in bed but here I can get out in the
gardens, I have some me time. I am hoping to become a full-time resident soon.

My nan was only a resident for 1 week before she passed away and while my nan was in their care she was well looked after and thought of throughout the home. All the staff we met were wonderful and made us all feel welcome we really can't thank all the staff enough for the care and support they gave
to my nan and us as a family. I just wish she had longer there instead of the neglect my nan had to suffer in another care home for 4 months. Thank you Wulfrun Rose Nursing Home.

My mom was sent to this nursing home via the hospital, couldn't have chosen a better place myself. She has a lovely clean room with a TV and bathroom. The staff are so friendly and welcoming, nothing is too much trouble. I feel relieved that Mom is in a safe, caring home.

Since dad came to Wulfrun Rose Nursing Home he has been a lot more settled than anywhere. The staff are lovely, and polite and listen to any concerns we have regarding dad and help us in any way they can. This has been the third home dad has been in but the best one, more than happy with their service
and has his daughters more settled knowing he is being looked after so well.

Appalling nursing home. I don’t understand how or why they haven’t completely changed the staff or management.
Completely different experience when they don’t realise family or friends are there, observing.
They only cleaned human waste in the kitchen area because I pointed it out, otherwise, they
were all hoping someone else would do it.

In 2018, sadly, my mum could no longer live independently, so we searched for a nursing home near my sister in Wolverhampton. We visited a number of places, but found them dark and depressing. When we visited Wulfrun Rose, we knew we had found the place for Mum to end her days. Since March 2018, when
Mum arrived at Wulfrun Rose, she has received excellent care, she is treated with the utmost care and respect by everyone. Even during the pressures of Covid, the quality of care continued and does so to this day. In August 2022, Mum deteriorated and the family were called. We too were treated with the utmost respect during the 10-day period Mum recovered. On the 22nd of October 2022, she deteriorated again and we were called - excellent care and treatment too. If you are looking for somewhere for your loved one, you should try Wulfrun Rose Nursing Home.
Reply from Jackie Scott, Manager at Wulfrun Rose Nursing HomeThank you for your kind words. It has been and remains a privilege and pleasure to care for Mom. Having such a supportive family is heartwarming.

On multiple occasions, I would visit my grandmother and she was in stained dirty pyjamas from 2/3 days before and be unwashed. I witnessed carers talking over her when tending to her personal care, and not engaging with her or treating her with compassion, making her feel like an object. I documented
occasions of her becoming dehydrated through lack of assistance with drinks, resulting in having infections. We witnessed a dementia resident wandering around and walking into my grandmother's room which frightened her.
Talking to residents like they are children is patronising and does not encourage relationship-building. Just because someone has complex needs and is frail doesn't mean they should be spoken to like they don't know what is going on. It is demeaning. There are some excellent nurses at Wulfrun Rose and my grandmother felt comfortable with them because they treated her like a human being. It's a shame not all staff are the same. Overall a very bad experience, mostly due to poor management.
Reply from Jackie Scott, Home Manager at Wulfrun Rose Nursing HomeThank you for you review. We offer personal care to our residents daily in line with their wishes, needs and desires. When people with capacity refuse care we adhere to their wishes and document this in their care plan. We ask relatives to leave residents' rooms when we are supporting with personal care to maintain privacy and dignity unless it is their explicit wish that relatives stay. This is a rare occurrence and to my knowledge has not happened for a long time. We always assisted people that need assistance. We are unable to force residents to drink if they decline, we do record any refusals. We refer residents to our GP, dietitian and the Speech and Language team when required. I am sure that you can empathise people living with dementia wander at times. We strive to communicate with all our residents in the manner that they prefer. My team and I work together to ensure that all our residents receive a high standard of care, I am sorry that you do not think we achieved this.

I just have to comment that this home is delivering exceptional care in very difficult times. The home is odour free, clean and tidy, the staff are caring, courteous and polite. The management in the home cannot do enough to assist and have always responded to me promptly, I even spoke to the manager
whilst she was at home having a family meal. I just think this home is amazing. The way they care for my relative is second to none and I couldn't ask for them the be placed anywhere better.

I wanted to make this review as I really feel that this home deserves some recognition. Over the past two years, my dearest friend has been a resident here, and at first, I was very dubious. The new manager who started in September 2019 has made such a difference to the home, and the way that things
are. The staff have been amazing all through this Covid Pandemic, and they have kept the residents safe. There have been some minor issues over the last few weeks regarding communication, but again, the staff are working extremely hard to ensure that all people are kept up to date. My friends family could not ask for a better home for their loved one, and my friend tells me all the time how great the home is and what a lovely place to live it is. I thank all the staff greatly for all they are doing, and I thank the manager for all she is doing to keep things running smoothly.
If you are looking for a home for a loved one, then please choose Wulfrun Rose, you won't be disappointed.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.733)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.733) out of 10 for Wulfrun Rose Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 39 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 39 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.733 for Wulfrun Rose Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (346 Excellents x 5) + (105 Goods x 4) + (9 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 460 Ratings = 4.733
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Wulfrun Rose Nursing Home is based on 39 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 67 registered maximum number of service users is 13.4, which has been reached with 39 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
