The care my mum receives is amazing. She is so well looked after, the staff are very caring and treat her with respect. Mum says they’re her other family. Myself and the rest of the family have peace of mind because we know there is always someone there for her, not just to look after her and provide
the care she needs, but to spend time with her, chatting and making her smile.
She is very happy and settled.
The home is clean and beautifully decorated, it doesn’t feel like a care home.
The range of activities is good with something for everyone, it’s lovely when there are events the family can join in with.
Overall, we’re more than happy with the care Mum receives.

My mother has been a resident since April 2022 and has been treated with nothing but kindness and respect. Nothing is too much trouble for her.
When we visit, we are greeted with a smile. All the staff are extremely friendly, polite and welcoming.
My mother was poorly over Christmas and the care
she received was exceptional. We were kept in the loop via email and phone calls so I am really pleased with the communication between the home and myself.
Mum is very happy in Rush Hill Mews and has voiced this herself.
Thank you!

My husband spent two weeks as a respite guest, although not wanting to be there, he settled in thanks to the lovely staff. Each time I visited there were always plenty of staff on duty, they were all friendly and caring. The weekly menus were displayed for everyone to see as was the activities programme.
Everywhere was very clean and well-maintained, I was impressed with the leisurely atmosphere at mealtimes.

Dad moved into Rush Hill Mews Care Home at the very end of May after a difficult time and he was made to feel welcome very quickly. I was impressed by the level of care he received by the regular monitoring of his weight and eating/drinking and by the calm, gentleness with which care staff made him
feel at home. I was also pleased that it was almost always possible for me to speak to a member of the nursing staff when I had concerns.
Dad has now settled in a comfortable room with all that he needs and a beautiful garden to sit in - when the English weather allows it! I am very happy with the support and care the home offers. His individual needs are catered for and his individual wishes and dignity respected and I have often been struck by little extra gestures of kindness from both nursing and care staff. My brother and sister-in-law visited recently, over a period of several days and were also impressed by the warm efficiency of the staff.
I highly recommend this care home.

Rush Hill Mews has a welcoming and pleasant atmosphere. The staff are excellent, they make an effort to get to know each resident and seem concerned to ensure they are happy and comfortable. Any requests for change have been dealt with efficiently by the staff. The activities seem varied and appropriate,
effort is made so the activities are current and relevant. I am very pleased with the care my mother receives.

Our mother came to Rush Hill Mews in late 2022. We were all given great support and help in this very difficult time of transition from home to care.
During her residency Mum has needed much care and medical attention, these have all been given with great professionalism.
Most importantly Mum has
said how lovely all her carers are and how much she likes and trusts them.
We could not be happier with the complete care that Mum receives.
Thank you all at Rush Hill Mews.

Mum has been in the care home for a few months now, and from the start, all members of staff have been kind and helpful, from the first enquiry, through to the carers looking after my mother.
The home is beautiful. It’s clean and fresh with lovely furniture. Mum’s room is a good size, and she was
able to bring a few pieces of furniture and pictures from home so it doesn’t feel sterile or strange.
All of Mum’s needs are taken care of, from doctor’s appointments to Mum’s daily care, from washing to entrainment. Everyone is kind, friendly and so helpful. I receive calls or emails if anything needs to be discussed. I feel very well informed and know that all of Mum’s needs are catered for. I love that I can visit at any time and am always made to feel welcome.
It wasn’t easy to decide that Mum needed proper professional care, but we could not have chosen a more comfortable, caring and kind home.

We are in no doubt that Rush Hill Mews was the right place for Dad to receive the dementia care he requires. Mum was a resident here for nearly four years when it was run by Gracewell and little has changed under CareUK.
There is always a warm welcome from all the staff when you visit and as relatives,
we are made to feel part of the community. Residents are given the support and attention they require, with due respect for their individual wishes. Staff are always on hand and we are kept informed of Dad’s care. Every effort is made to ensure the residents have a fulfilling life with activities and entertainment to suit all and 1:1 time where needed. The home is modern and well-maintained, and the quality of food is very good – a special mention for the exceptional birthday cakes! It’s reassuring to know that Dad is happy and well cared for.
Having direct experience of four care homes in the immediate and surrounding area, we would have no hesitation in recommending Rush Hill Mews.

The rooms are very nice as are the communal areas-dining room, living rooms, and bistro/reception which is nicely decorated and furnished. Most importantly the staff couldn't be more caring and kind. They know my mother well and she likes them. Any concerns, issues or requests I have are dealt with
promptly. I would recommend this care home.

Mum moved to Rush Hill Mews in September 22, and all the staff were most kind and caring in helping her settle in. The home is kept well-decorated and clean, and the food is of high quality. I have sometimes stayed for mealtimes and been very impressed with the quality of the food.
I am always made
to feel so welcome whenever I visit, and I am very content that Mum is being well looked after. Mum's main comment to me is how wonderful the staff are and that they provide everything she needs.

In the summer of 2022, I visited a total of 7 nursing homes and Rush Hill Mews was by far the best. It is bright, modern, has excellent facilities, a good programme of events and very caring staff.
Mum is very happy with the staff, and the food is excellent.
She has a nice room, with a pleasant outlook
onto the garden.
However, there is a lack of attention to detail, e.g. my mum's hearing aids are sometimes not inserted or inserted incorrectly, and I have noticed that the replacement of her hearing aid batteries is sometimes overlooked, so that she can't hear!
Sometimes too, staff have failed to put on her spectacles and as she is very short-sighted, she has been unable to watch the TV.
She is often wearing clothes that belong to someone else, and I have had to keep informing the staff of this.
However, I must stress that staff do their utmost to ensure that she is happy and well-cared for.
Despite my misgivings, I would not have chosen anywhere else!
Reply from Samantha Debenham, Personal Assistant at Rush Hill MewsThank you so much for your lovely review of Rush Hill Mews – we’re incredibly pleased to hear how happy your mum is at the home. However, I’m very sorry that there are a couple of areas where we’ve not performed to our usual high standards. We have spoken to the team leader who will check your mum’s hearing aids and glasses daily whilst ensuring all the team know how to put in hearing aids correctly. We have had some new colleagues join us in the care and laundry teams so this may have led to the clothing issues which we will also address. Thank you again for your testimonial, and please do not hesitate to let us know at any time if you have any further comments, suggestions or questions – we’re always here and happy to help.

Dad is well cared for, several staff have gone out of their way to spend time on his needs, and they are thoughtful about him as a person. Dad really likes the food, and the Reception Cafe is a useful space to chat and do Christmas cards together. He enjoys the conversation with other visitors and a
quick change of scene. Staff are consistently calm, and encouraging and show a sense of humour. We are happy as a family that dad is safe and well looked after.

Mum lived at Rush Hill Mews for 2.5 years. Her room was comfortable and clean, and she liked the staff. She particularly liked the food which was consistently good. The home did its best to give us as much access as possible during the lockdowns, in very difficult times, and always kept us well informed.
In her last few days, the staff were incredibly kind and attentive, both to mum and to us as a family, and we really appreciated their calm professional approach. We had no hesitation in moving my father-in-law into the home earlier this year when he could no longer stay at home, and he has received equally good care.

I am pleased that my sister is well looked after with care and in a very friendly and comforting way. I always take flowers every time I visit her, which is every week and sometimes twice a week, a little more care could be given to keeping her flowers topped up with water.
Also, a little more care
could be given to fresh laundry when placed in her wardrobe, sometimes it is the wrong person's laundry but it is always nice to see her kept clean and presentable, she is always happy there.

I have found all the staff to be very friendly to mum and me, throughout the nine months mum has been at the home, despite the very trying times with covid outbreaks and the shortage of staff. I really like being able to take mum for coffee and cake in reception, where we can meet and chat to others.
I think the first-floor decor is looking a bit tired, especially compared to the other areas - for example, the carpet is very stained. But the most important thing is that mum seems happy and comfortable, despite her lack of memory, which must be difficult for her.
Reply from Samantha Debenham, Personal Assistant at Rush Hill MewsThank you very much for your review – we’re so pleased your mum is happy and comfortable at Rush Hill Mews. We are also happy to let you know that we are currently undergoing redecoration throughout the home so you should be able to notice all the communal areas are refreshed and looking much better very soon.

My parents have been living at Rush Hill Mews since March 2021. Until recently, both my parents were together in the home, where they have received wonderful care in very difficult circumstances.
Since the death of my mother in May, my father, who lives with dementia, has continued to be cared for
with love and kindness. Staff are always kind, approachable and deeply caring, which as a relative gives me great peace of mind when I cannot be there. He loves the food, which is a real treat as the chef is very good. Have found the staff to be supportive of us as a family at what can often be painful and challenging times. They have a deep affection for the residents in their care, are professional and act quickly in medical situations. We are very grateful.

Mom has been resident in Gracewell/Rush Hill Mews for nearly five years. Initially, she came in for a month's respite care - she was really ill. We were all so impressed with the standard of care that shortly after she moved in permanently. Mum has always received exceptional care and is still enjoying
her time. Being wheelchair-bound she relies on her carers for everything and they always look after her with willingness, efficiency and compassion. Most importantly for mum is the fun she has with your staff - every time I visit her she will tell me a little story, usually starting with "we did laugh.....".
From our family perspective, we are delighted to know that mum is spending her final years in a secure, caring environment and that she has not lost her sense of humour. Thank you.

The care staff looking after Mum have been particularly good this last month in what has been a challenging time for Mum and us. She hasn't fully recovered from a bout of illness, and her dementia has advanced. Senior care staff have been very good at keeping me informed of any changes and developments
in her condition, very caring and professional. Three members of staff particularly stand out as so caring and work very hard and been so good with Mum.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.826)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.826) out of 10 for Rush Hill Mews is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 28 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 28 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.826 for Rush Hill Mews is calculated as follows: ( (279 Excellents x 5) + (42 Goods x 4) + (6 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 328 Ratings = 4.826
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Rush Hill Mews is based on 28 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 62 registered maximum number of service users is 12.4, which has been reached with 28 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: General Manager

I’ve worked in the care sector for nearly 30 years and am passionate about dementia care and end-of-life care, in particular, I’m currently studying for a Masters's degree in dementia care studies.

In this role, it’s important to lead by example and to keep a calm head. Knowledge and experience are important, I started out as a carer and worked my way up, so I know the challenges faced by my team.

Care UK’s ethos of care, which puts residents at the heart of everything, echoes my own values. The organisation also offers superb training and development opportunities so that colleagues can learn and progress in their careers.

I am focused on continuous improvement and have worked on a number of initiatives aimed at enhancing the quality of life for people with dementia, including using technology to promote health and wellbeing. I’m looking forward to supporting the team at Rush Hill Mews to achieve outstanding levels of care.
