We are in no doubt that Rush Hill Mews was the right place for Dad to receive the dementia care he requires. Mum was a resident here for nearly four years when it was run by Gracewell and little has changed under CareUK.
There is always a warm welcome from all the staff when you visit and as relatives,
we are made to feel part of the community. Residents are given the support and attention they require, with due respect for their individual wishes. Staff are always on hand and we are kept informed of Dad’s care. Every effort is made to ensure the residents have a fulfilling life with activities and entertainment to suit all and 1:1 time where needed. The home is modern and well-maintained, and the quality of food is very good – a special mention for the exceptional birthday cakes! It’s reassuring to know that Dad is happy and well cared for.
Having direct experience of four care homes in the immediate and surrounding area, we would have no hesitation in recommending Rush Hill Mews.

The rooms are very nice as are the communal areas-dining room, living rooms, and bistro/reception which is nicely decorated and furnished. Most importantly the staff couldn't be more caring and kind. They know my mother well and she likes them. Any concerns, issues or requests I have are dealt with
promptly. I would recommend this care home.

Mum moved to Rush Hill Mews in September 22, and all the staff were most kind and caring in helping her settle in. The home is kept well-decorated and clean, and the food is of high quality. I have sometimes stayed for mealtimes and been very impressed with the quality of the food.
I am always made
to feel so welcome whenever I visit, and I am very content that Mum is being well looked after. Mum's main comment to me is how wonderful the staff are and that they provide everything she needs.

In the summer of 2022, I visited a total of 7 nursing homes and Rush Hill Mews was by far the best. It is bright, modern, has excellent facilities, a good programme of events and very caring staff.
Mum is very happy with the staff, and the food is excellent.
She has a nice room, with a pleasant outlook
onto the garden.
However, there is a lack of attention to detail, e.g. my mum's hearing aids are sometimes not inserted or inserted incorrectly, and I have noticed that the replacement of her hearing aid batteries is sometimes overlooked, so that she can't hear!
Sometimes too, staff have failed to put on her spectacles and as she is very short-sighted, she has been unable to watch the TV.
She is often wearing clothes that belong to someone else, and I have had to keep informing the staff of this.
However, I must stress that staff do their utmost to ensure that she is happy and well-cared for.
Despite my misgivings, I would not have chosen anywhere else!

Dad is well cared for, several staff have gone out of their way to spend time on his needs, and they are thoughtful about him as a person. Dad really likes the food, and the Reception Cafe is a useful space to chat and do Christmas cards together. He enjoys the conversation with other visitors and a
quick change of scene. Staff are consistently calm, and encouraging and show a sense of humour. We are happy as a family that dad is safe and well looked after.

My mother has lived at Rush Hill for nearly two years and is happy and settled there. When she had a nasty fall recently, the staff were fantastic and acted very quickly to ensure that an ambulance was called immediately and she was checked out thoroughly.

Mum lived at Rush Hill Mews for 2.5 years. Her room was comfortable and clean, and she liked the staff. She particularly liked the food which was consistently good. The home did its best to give us as much access as possible during the lockdowns, in very difficult times, and always kept us well informed.
In her last few days, the staff were incredibly kind and attentive, both to mum and to us as a family, and we really appreciated their calm professional approach. We had no hesitation in moving my father-in-law into the home earlier this year when he could no longer stay at home, and he has received equally good care.

I am pleased that my sister is well looked after with care and in a very friendly and comforting way. I always take flowers every time I visit her, which is every week and sometimes twice a week, a little more care could be given to keeping her flowers topped up with water.
Also, a little more care
could be given to fresh laundry when placed in her wardrobe, sometimes it is the wrong person's laundry but it is always nice to see her kept clean and presentable, she is always happy there.

I have found all the staff to be very friendly to mum and me, throughout the nine months mum has been at the home, despite the very trying times with covid outbreaks and the shortage of staff. I really like being able to take mum for coffee and cake in reception, where we can meet and chat to others.
I think the first-floor decor is looking a bit tired, especially compared to the other areas - for example, the carpet is very stained. But the most important thing is that mum seems happy and comfortable, despite her lack of memory, which must be difficult for her.

My parents have been living at Rush Hill Mews since March 2021. Until recently, both my parents were together in the home, where they have received wonderful care in very difficult circumstances.
Since the death of my mother in May, my father, who lives with dementia, has continued to be cared for
with love and kindness. Staff are always kind, approachable and deeply caring, which as a relative gives me great peace of mind when I cannot be there. He loves the food, which is a real treat as the chef is very good. Have found the staff to be supportive of us as a family at what can often be painful and challenging times. They have a deep affection for the residents in their care, are professional and act quickly in medical situations. We are very grateful.

Mom has been resident in Gracewell/Rush Hill Mews for nearly five years. Initially, she came in for a month's respite care - she was really ill. We were all so impressed with the standard of care that shortly after she moved in permanently. Mum has always received exceptional care and is still enjoying
her time. Being wheelchair-bound she relies on her carers for everything and they always look after her with willingness, efficiency and compassion. Most importantly for mum is the fun she has with your staff - every time I visit her she will tell me a little story, usually starting with "we did laugh.....".
From our family perspective, we are delighted to know that mum is spending her final years in a secure, caring environment and that she has not lost her sense of humour. Thank you.

The care staff looking after Mum have been particularly good this last month in what has been a challenging time for Mum and us. She hasn't fully recovered from a bout of illness, and her dementia has advanced. Senior care staff have been very good at keeping me informed of any changes and developments
in her condition, very caring and professional. Three members of staff particularly stand out as so caring and work very hard and been so good with Mum.

From the first telephone call to clearing Dad's room following his passing, all staff at Gracewell have been fantastic. His settling in was handled sensitively. The carers were so upbeat and attentive. The modern purpose-built premises are excellent with wide-open spaces and step-free wet rooms in each

My relatives had reached crisis point at home with failing health and we needed a solution. Gracewell of Bath has provided this. The staff are all superheroes in my opinion. There’s always a welcoming smile when entering the building. The staff are professional, kind and caring and frequently go the
extra mile when dealing with residents. They are like an extended family! My relatives had differing needs but Gracewell can accommodate this with floors for Residential, Memory Care and Medical needs and transition between floors is facilitated when it becomes necessary. If problems arise (which they do occasionally) they are dealt with professionally and efficiently. The rooms are light and airy and all very similar. I cannot thank Gracewell enough for their support and kindness.

My bed-bound father's previous care home announced mid-October that they were closing and I needed to find an alternative home for him. I had already heard good things about Gracewell of Bath so immediately phoned them and spoke to the Admissions Manager. She, and her team, worked tirelessly to ensure
a smooth transition for my father, liaising with me as well as the previous care home. She made what could have been a very stressful time for both me and my father, as easy as possible. Since his admission, he has settled in well, his room is large with plenty of natural light, and my father says the bed is extremely comfortable and he enjoys the food! The staff are always kind and caring towards him, and it is a great relief for me to know he is well looked after. The home installed a direct phone line to my father's room, which makes contacting him easy, even more, important now that we are back in lockdown.

The health measures in place at Gracewell to ensure safe passage of residents are stringent and, as such, provide much reassurance.
From the moment mum set foot over the threshold, she has wanted for nothing. Staff have all been so kind and attentive and have answered all our queries with speed, as
well as keeping us up-to-date every step of the way.
It would be no exaggeration to say that Mum is now feeling the most secure she has felt in months and we can all sleep well at night knowing she is in good hands.

Both my grandparents had been living at Gracewell for the last couple of years.
All the staff at Gracewell have been fantastic throughout - always smiling and available to help.
I know they looked after both grandparents so well throughout their time there. Always working so hard to make sure they
were as comfortable as possible, they were very accommodating.
The place was always clean, there were always people about ready to help if needed, or popping by with some tea or a snack.
With the last couple of months being that much extra complicated, what with Covid-19, the staff at the home were careful and had made so many extra sacrifices and working extra hard, also giving my family regular updates, and passing on emails and photos sent through to Grandpa.
I can't thank them enough.

My dad arrived at Gracewell just before the country was locked down with Coronavirus. Extremely difficult circumstances for the home to function in, but the staff are exceptional, always going the extra mile to ensure that residents stay happy and healthy. As you'd expect in such a well-organised home,
even when the situation called for tighter lockdown, PPE was readily available and staff made sure they spent time chatting with my dad, ensuring he felt loved and safe. When he received an end of life diagnosis, we were allowed to visit, within limitations, and full PPE was provided each time. The staff are exceptional, well trained, caring, thoughtful - my dad called them his extended family, that's how much they meant to him and to us. And this was after a period of only three months. At the end, we were allowed to be with him (in full PPE) and he was treated with respect, dignity and love and had a very peaceful death. I can't thank the staff enough and would recommend this home to anyone.

Gracewell is not really like a care home, it’s more like a family retreat for people who need some extra help in their latter years. The facilities are excellent as too are all the staff, which includes management, carers, chefs and housekeeping. I would highly recommend Gracewell to anyone having to

  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

Caroline

Caroline Farrell

Job Title: General Manager

I’ve worked in the care sector for nearly 30 years and am passionate about dementia care and end-of-life care, in particular, I’m currently studying for a Masters's degree in dementia care studies.


In this role, it’s important to lead by example and to keep a calm head. Knowledge and experience are important, I started out as a carer and worked my way up, so I know the challenges faced by my team.


Care UK’s ethos of care, which puts residents at the heart of everything, echoes my own values. The organisation also offers superb training and development opportunities so that colleagues can learn and progress in their careers.


I am focused on continuous improvement and have worked on a number of initiatives aimed at enhancing the quality of life for people with dementia, including using technology to promote health and wellbeing. I’m looking forward to supporting the team at Rush Hill Mews to achieve outstanding levels of care.
