The care that both my parents are receiving at Liberham Lodge is exceptional. From the moment of our initial enquiry to their admissions, all of the staff have gone out of their way to make the process smooth, caring and friendly. They have very different needs, but the smiling faces and reassuring
comments and actions of the staff have helped all of us at a potentially difficult time. In particular, I know that all concerned went through a great deal of trouble in the preparation and subsequent admission with particular nursing care required. Thank you.

Looking for a care home for a loved one is one of the hardest things to do in life; you want a home-from-home for them, and you want to know their every need is being looked after. If you were able to give them the 24-hour care yourself, it means you didn't sleep well and would have to be available
24/7 for them, but you know this is not possible for one person. It takes a care team, and it also takes a care team with hearts.
We were lucky enough to get my mum into Liberham Lodge when she needed it the most, first as respite care and now as a permanent resident due to her medical needs and long-term care plan.
It is always difficult to make this decision, but when you get the support from the team at Liberham that we have been shown, it makes it so much easier and a more pleasant experience.
Having seen several care homes across the country, we can clearly state this is one of the very best. Knowing your loved one has their every need looked after helps to bring comfort to you all.

At the time of this review, we are very happy with the level of care our mother is receiving at Liberham Lodge. Her quality of life is very good, and she is generally happy. I am very impressed with the quantity and variety of activities offered by the activities team, and only wish Mum would choose
to join in more of them. However, she is happy to knit and paint. It is great to see photos of the residents engaging in activities posted daily on Facebook and a good way of seeing which activities Mum is joining in with!
Any concerns or queries are mostly dealt with quickly, respectfully and efficiently.

My father joined Liberham Lodge in 2017 and has been an Assisted Living resident since then. He has one of the generous self-contained serviced flats in the Care Home rather than a single room and takes his meals with the other residents in the dining room. Liberham Lodge provides the home environment,
company, care and activities my father needs. The care the staff take of my father is a great relief to his family and they are always very kind to him and to us. We appreciate the extra effort to look after him when a bit of medical care is needed from time to time.

Engagement in the many activities organised is encouraged to suit the individual. My father helps run the little shop that provides those little extras that residents might need and gives them the independence to choose purchases themselves. He also gets involved in organising weekly quizzes for residents and liaises with the Home Manager representing any issues raised by residents in the capacity of Resident Ambassador.

My 94-year-old mother was very reluctant to move to a care home, but we were faced with no choice after an extended hospital stay, and she was not mobile enough to live independently at home anymore. One lady was brilliant, helping to negotiate hospital discharge dates and the exact nature of care my
mum needed. The process was so easy. My mum has been at Liberham Lodge for two months now. She has settled in beautifully. She still has duvet days but has responded really well to encouragement from the staff to get up, dressed and socialise. She has put on weight, her skin is clear, and she says she likes it there, which I never expected to hear!
The place is clean and bright, and the staff I have met are all lovely, especially the two assigned to help my mother, who she is very fond of. There are loads of activities on offer, and relatives are kept informed of developments. You can visit at any time. I would say Liberham Lodge feels and looks more like a hotel than a residential home.

My mother was at Liberham Lodge for five months while she was waiting for a care home place nearer to me so I can visit her more easily. First of all, she needed a place urgently as she was about to be discharged from hospital and I was unable to look after her because of other family problems, so it
was a huge relief when the team at Liberham Lodge worked so hard to accommodate her so quickly, in less than 48 hours even with all the administrative work that had to be done. (Other care homes had failed to do this.)

Liberham Lodge has beautiful surroundings, and a lovely garden full of lavender and smooth paths. The staff are all very friendly, approachable, helpful and have kind caring manners. There is a feeling of liveliness, always something going on, and plenty of activities and stimulation! The bedrooms are peaceful with lovely views. And there is a definite touch of luxury too, with balconies, a hair and pampering salon, a cinema, and many places for visitors to spend time in summer and winter.

Liberham Lodge is an exceptionally clean, well maintained, comfortable and welcoming home. My father was admitted in March following diagnosis of a very rare and rapidly degenerative brain disorder. From the first contact, staff went out of their way to ensure a smooth admission, making sure Dad was
comfortable and that we as a whole family felt welcome and supported at what was a very difficult time.
Dad was a resident on the nursing floor for three months, receiving absolutely first class palliative and end of life care from the whole team, from management and nursing staff, carers, cleaning staff, caterers and reception. Dad's rare condition was challenging to manage towards the end, but the nursing and care staff were so attentive and respectful ensuring he remained comfortable. They made what was an unbearable time for us all much easier and Mum, my brother and I went home every day knowing that Dad was in safe and caring hands, and for that we will be forever grateful.

Mum has been at Liberham for less than a year. The home is beautifully decorated, modern and clean. She has made friends with both carers and residents. The carers we have got to know have been very kind. Her health has improved considerably while there and under the care of local doctors and carers.
Mum has been able to join in with activities and sit in the garden in the summer.
We enjoy the fact that the family are allowed to visit any time and even book to eat a meal there.
The staff are excellent but there has at times been a shortage due to sickness etc.

The thing that impresses me most is the relationship my father has struck up with his carers. He is genuinely fond of them and they of him. This means such a lot to him as his mobility is so restricted. As his world has shrunk his life has expanded through the friendships he has made with his carers.
He has even started to teach one of them chess!

My Mum has been at Gracewell (now Liberham Lodge) since it opened and has had its ups and downs, but the transfer to Care Uk and the new manager Jag at Christmas has proved to be a great positive change. Mum is on the memory floor, where activities are tailored for their needs, but they also join in
many activities with the rest of the residents. There is always something fun going on! The staff are all polite, kind, and doing a grand job. I can feel confident that Mum is being cared for in a safe and compassionate environment. There are improvements happening all the time, and when I have had issues they are dealt with promptly.

A strong 4.5 ! This home is certainly excellent and really improving under new management, but nothing is that perfect and always potential to improve.
Running and working in a care home over the last few years with the challenges of covid and staffing shortages in the care sector must be very difficult.
My
mother is a current resident of Liberham lodge. At first, she went in for respite, but then she decided she would feel safer and more secure staying due to her specific needs.
I can't begin to express both of our gratitude to everyone at Liberham lodge for how they cared for mum when she arrived in very poor health, nursed her back to strength and now care for her needs every day.
She has really settled in and made friends and it's clear the team really care about her and her specific needs. Thankfully whilst very fragile she is still mentally very alert and the wonderful array of activities keeps her active and engaged.
We now have quality time together, what more can you ask.

My mum has been a resident at Gracewell of Bookham for two years but sadly passed away last week. She had been living with advanced dementia and her final battle was protracted and challenging. But every single member of staff did everything within their power to make her passing as comfortable and
peaceful as possible. They acted with great sensitivity and respect, making sure that Mum's end of life journey was one of dignity. Each carer, cook, cleaner, receptionist, nurse and manager worked with love and compassion for Mum, myself and my sisters at this very difficult time. Exceptional care. Thank you.

Gracewell of Bookham is a modern purpose-built residence. It is always clean and tidy with a peaceful garden and a lovely dining room and lounges for residents and visitors. For more able-bodied residents they provide varied activities and facilities including outings. However if you need a higher
level of care or nursing care, their constant low staffing levels and poor management means you are unlikely to receive the care that is detailed in your care plan. This has caused immense stress for my family during my mother's stay. Fortunately, my mother was not aware of the shortfall in care.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.881)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.881) out of 10 for Liberham Lodge is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 29 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 29 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.881 for Liberham Lodge is calculated as follows: ( (306 Excellents x 5) + (35 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 344 Ratings = 4.881
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Liberham Lodge is based on 29 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 74 registered maximum number of service users is 14.8, which has been reached with 29 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager Joined: 2016

I’m an experienced home manager, and I joined Care UK from another big care provider in 2016. I wanted to be part of a more proactive company that would help me achieve my goals. Care UK has a very good reputation and is well known for caring as much for its colleagues as its residents.

I believe that, as a home manager, you’re as good as your team. That’s why I always make sure I’m giving colleagues the support they need to do their jobs well. I love walking around the home, checking in with them and the residents. It’s wonderful when residents take the time to sit and chat to me and share what they’ve been doing that day.

Georgie Wilkins

Job Title: Customer Relations Manager Joined: 2021

I’m Georgie Wilkins, and I’ve been working as a Customer Relations Manager with Care UK for the past 5 years.

I’m really passionate about supporting people and being there for families when they’re making such important decisions about care. I understand how emotional and sometimes overwhelming the journey can feel, so I always try to make things as simple, clear and reassuring as possible.

For me, it’s all about building genuine relationships. I take the time to listen, understand what matters most, and make sure every person feels heard, valued and comfortable. I want families to feel supported from that very first conversation and to know they can always come to me with any questions or worries.

I’d describe myself as warm, approachable and understanding, and I pride myself on creating a friendly, welcoming experience for everyone I meet. It’s important to me that people feel at ease and confident in the choices they’re making.

Being part of Care UK means a lot to me, and I’m proud to work alongside such a supportive team to help create a place where residents truly feel at home.
