Respite stays are subject to a 20% uplift on the prices shown above. Fees are subject to a pre-admission
needs assessment which is required to fully understand the level of care and support required by each
individual. Premium rooms normally require an additional charge. Nursing fees include the Funded Nursing
Contribution (FNC) if you are eligible.

other privately arranged healthcare. Should you require an escort to hospital appointments, we may apply
an agreed hourly charge for this service.

Gracewell of Bookham is a modern purpose-built residence. It is always clean and tidy with a peaceful garden and a lovely dining room and lounges for residents and visitors. For more able-bodied residents they provide varied activities and facilities including outings. However if you need a higher
level of care or nursing care, their constant low staffing levels and poor management means you are unlikely to receive the care that is detailed in your care plan. This has caused immense stress for my family during my mother's stay. Fortunately, my mother was not aware of the shortfall in care.

Wonderful staff who were able to provide everything to support my father in the last 2 years of his life. Very well run and efficient as a purpose-built care home, with genuinely authentic staff who take care of the individual resident's needs. The food is delicious too!

The standard of laundry provided by housekeeping is always excellent they must have a fantastic set of staff to be able to provide our clothes back in such a way. This 'home' is not too big but the amount of washing to be done per day must be vast.

Right from our first contact with Gracewell, we have felt Mum is in a warm and caring community. Mum has settled so well into Gracewell. She says the food is fantastic, her room is very comfy and most of all the staff are all so kind and caring. All staff have been professional and positive in any dealings
I have had with them, nothing is too much trouble. It has been such a relief knowing Mum is happy and well looked after. This is what we'd wanted and our experiences in these early weeks show that this is what Gracewell provides. Thank you so much. We hope Mum will continue to thrive and participate in the Gracewell community.

I have been a volunteer in Gracewell for the past two years. It is a generally a happy home and residents appear to be well cared for and content. There are many opportunities provided for activities throughout the week. Staff are mainly helpful and attentive to the needs of residents.

Dad had only been at Gracewell for a month when it closed to visitors in March. But the regular email updates have been very reassuring and I have always felt that Dad was in very safe hands during the COVID crisis. It was his birthday in May and the chef made him his favourite meal which was much appreciated,
Dad always comments on how much he enjoys the delicious puddings! The staff are all so friendly and welcoming and even during this very challenging time, nothing has been too much trouble. I am so grateful for the little extras that have been organised recently, the iPad for Facetime calls, the tent in the garden where Dad has enjoyed tea and the brilliant drive-by visit. I want to single out the Admissions Advisor who has been fantastic and always ready to help me with any request. I have nothing but praise and gratitude for all the staff at Gracewell, most especially those who care for my Dad. Thank you.

My mum came to Gracewell for two weeks respite care after recovering from illness. From my first phone call of enquiry to her eventual admission I was really impressed with the level of personal service and support. They could not have been more accommodating and helpful. My mum has spoken of her care
in the highest possible terms. Nothing is too much trouble, all of the carers are lovely and they all seem really happy, even in lockdown! The food is also really excellent according to Mum, lots of choice and plenty of snacks and drinks throughout the day. Because of lockdown and quarantine regulations, my mum wasn’t able to access any of the activities but she really enjoyed the beautiful gardens. She is a very independent lady who is not ready for a permanent move to a home but she has said that Gracewell would definitely be her choice if she does need that sort of care. Thank you so much to everyone who has looked after her so well.

Gracewell has provided my mother with a wonderful loving environment. She is a fairly new resident and yes, though we could see and feel how lovely it was when we chose it, we didn't realise just how incredible the staff actually were. The care in such difficult times has been exemplary. Everything
has been handled by the staff in a caring, professional manner. Even under such stress, the staff have continued to be kind, caring, sympathetic and patient. Nothing is ever too much trouble and we can not praise it enough. The home and facilities are super but it is the staff that make it superb. Well done and thank you for your continued care.

I was thrilled to see videos of the residents lining the window watching and listening to a singer perform to them while they were all in lockdown! The purchase of tablets for video calls has made such a huge difference for me as I live so far away from mum, and for my sister who visits her so regularly
and is not able to currently.

Although my Mum has lived at Gracewell for over 2 years now I felt it appropriate to submit a review to reflect on the fantastic work of all the staff at the home, especially during the Corona outbreak.
Firstly, I have to say there has been a marked improvement across the board since the arrival of
the Manager and I have been particularly impressed with the way he has handled communications with relatives whilst the home has been closed to visitors.
What is, of course, a very worrying time for everyone has been made less concerning for me as I know Mum is being looked after by the most caring and attentive staff you could hope for. The extra worry for their own well being and that of their own families hasn't detracted from providing exceptional care to the residents.
I can only imagine the extra strain the staff have been under recently and would like to express my sincere thanks for all that is being done for both my mum and us as a family.

The carers and all the background staff are superb. They are all very helpful, caring and kind not only to the residents but to us relatives as well. Nothing is too much trouble. Also, the food is yummy.

Both of my parents are at Gracewell and their care has been nothing short of excellent. The recent outbreak of the Coronavirus at the home must have been both terrifying and extremely difficult for the staff to deal with. I have nothing but praise and great admiration for the way that the manager and
all his staff managed the situation, keeping our loved ones as safe as possible. My grateful thanks to them all.

I have nothing but praise for all the staff at Gracewell. Mum moved in with dad 2 years ago as dad was, unfortunately, struggling with dementia. From the moment they came to a Gracewell they have had nothing but care, respect and support from all the staff there. Unfortunately, dad passed away a year
ago but mum is still there. She feels safe and happy and has made many friends. The activities are brilliant - during this difficult time, the Staff have made sure the residents are entertained with outside singing in the sun to name just one activity. The Manager and Home admission advisor are brilliant. Overall friendly, caring, and loving to every resident and their families. Thank you.

After several hospital admissions and falls, it was clear Mum wasn’t safe in her own house, even with four care visits a day. Whilst Mum was in hospital we viewed Gracewell and were very impressed. Mum’s needs were assessed the following day by a staff member who visited her and Mum was discharged for
respite care the next day. After just two weeks, Mum chose to stay permanently. Her room is beautiful, she was greeted by everyone - from those responsible for housekeeping and care to the wonderful activities organiser. Everyone was kind and welcoming, especially one in particular who has been so helpful and cheerful. A recent visitor commented on how genuinely caring all the staff are. They really know each resident. I feel I have got my mum back. She is no longer an anxious old lady, but back to joking and enjoying life. She has been on outings, had her hair done, enjoyed a walk in the grounds, cheese and wine socials, knitting and quizzes, and friends and family are always welcome in the Bistro.

    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 74 registered maximum number of service users is 14.8, which has been reached with 20 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: General Manager Joined: 2016

I’m an experienced home manager and I joined Care UK from another big care provider in 2016. I wanted to be part of a more proactive company that would help me to achieve my goals. Care UK has a very good reputation and is well known for caring as much for its colleagues as its residents. 


I believe that, as a home manager, you’re as good as your team. That’s why I always make sure I’m giving colleagues the support they need to do their jobs well. I love walking around the home checking in with them and the residents. It’s wonderful when residents take the time to sit and chat to me and share what they’ve been doing that day.
