Respite stays are subject to a 20% uplift on the prices shown above. Fees are subject to a pre-admission
needs assessment which is required to fully understand the level of care and support required by each

other privately arranged healthcare. Should you require an escort to hospital appointments, we may apply
an agreed hourly charge for this service.

The home is wonderful, and the staff are caring and amazing. They have all excelled during the recent COVID-19 problems with communication to families being quite incredible whilst putting concerns for the residents first at all time.

I have nothing but praise for all the staff at Gracewell. Mum moved in with dad 2 years ago as dad was, unfortunately, struggling with dementia. From the moment they came to a Gracewell they have had nothing but care, respect and support from all the staff there. Unfortunately, dad passed away a year
ago but mum is still there. She feels safe and happy and has made many friends. The activities are brilliant - during this difficult time, the Staff have made sure the residents are entertained with outside singing in the sun to name just one activity. The Manager and Home admission advisor are brilliant. Overall friendly, caring, and loving to every resident and their families. Thank you.

After several hospital admissions and falls, it was clear Mum wasn’t safe in her own house, even with four care visits a day. Whilst Mum was in hospital we viewed Gracewell and were very impressed. Mum’s needs were assessed the following day by a staff member who visited her and Mum was discharged for
respite care the next day. After just two weeks, Mum chose to stay permanently. Her room is beautiful, she was greeted by everyone - from those responsible for housekeeping and care to the wonderful activities organiser. Everyone was kind and welcoming, especially one in particular who has been so helpful and cheerful. A recent visitor commented on how genuinely caring all the staff are. They really know each resident. I feel I have got my mum back. She is no longer an anxious old lady, but back to joking and enjoying life. She has been on outings, had her hair done, enjoyed a walk in the grounds, cheese and wine socials, knitting and quizzes, and friends and family are always welcome in the Bistro.

My dad has Parkinson's disease and had been living independently at home. At Christmas, he had a couple of falls and started not to be able to get in and out of bed. He was also getting in a muddle with his medication. Dad moved into Gracewell initially for some respite and has now decided to stay permanently.
The experience from the first contact with Gracewell to Dad now becoming a permanent resident has been first class. A particular person was great at discussing our needs and worries and getting back with queries. Dad has been treated with great respect and has benefitted from his medication now being handled for him and that there are very lovely people around him helping as he is very much at risk of falling. He has now managed to relax and join in with activities that are going on. There seems to be a nice atmosphere in the home in general and the bistro area is usually buzzing with activity at various times of the day. The garden and rooms are also of excellent quality.

My mother lives on her own and suffers from Parkinson's Disease. She had got into a muddle with her medication before Christmas which meant that she was confused about what time of day it was and was struggling to look after herself. We felt that she needed 24/7 care for a period to get back on top
of her medication and to be fed properly. I visited Gracewell and confirmed straight after Christmas that we were keen for Mum to have a respite visit asap. Even though it was a busy time of year with bank holidays etc, Gracewell were quick to act and visited Mum at her home (over 2 hours drive away) to assess her before admitting her a few days later. Mum stayed at Gracewell for a couple of weeks and the staff were very kind, considerate and helpful. They took complete control of Mum's medication and she was in much better shape when she left. Mum enjoyed meeting other residents, the activities laid on and being treated to a constant supply of food and drinks.

Mum has been in one of the independent living units at Gracewell of Bookham since the end of November. She has settled in well and we have really enjoyed hearing the stories of her interactions and meetings with other residents and the staff too. The staff have been exceptional from the receptionists
to the manager, they all take time to engage mum and ensure that she has everything that she needs. We cannot fault the staff at all and they have worked hard to sort out any issues which have arisen too. Mum does not receive care and therefore cannot comment on care but support has been excellent.

I cannot recommend Gracewell highly enough.
We had to move very quickly in arranging respite care for my mum after a serious operation, and from our initial contact, the amazing Gracewell team, from senior management to the nurses and all of the caring team, were so supportive and incredibly professional
in expediating a speedy response to our call for help. To have peace of mind that your loved ones are receiving the best care, in a safe and caring environment, at a time that was stressful for the whole family was invaluable.
My mum actually wanted to take some of the staff home with her when it was time for her to return to her own home. I think that says it all.

The decision to move my mother to Gracewell three months ago was actually very easy. On our first visit, my husband and I were immediately struck by its warmth and friendliness, its many first-class facilities and the patience and care of the staff on the Memory Care floor. My mother has a very pleasant
en-suite room with lovely views over the extensive gardens. She seems to have settled in very well, thoroughly enjoys the food and is most appreciative of the personal care she receives. It is such a relief to know that she is getting the best possible care from a team of caring dementia trained staff.

All the regular staff on the Memory Care floor are extremely caring and friendly, and I believe my wife is happy living at Gracewell. Her care plan needs to be a lot less complex and more understandable and the revisions I requested some months ago have not been completed - probably because the care
plan is too complex and time consuming for senior care staff. Periodic meetings with senior staff provide a good forum at which to voice any concerns, which are dealt with in a sensible way.

I am the power of attorney to a 98yr old lady who has happily been resident here for nearly two years. During my visits to her, it was clear that I could assist her and Gracewell Bookham further by volunteering to run the Friday Flower Club where residents are supported and encouraged to arrange flowers
that are then placed in the bistro coffee area and for vases in the ground floor dining room. We change the theme each week to keep everyone interested and stimulated. I have helped further by assisting at the one and two year anniversary garden parties, as well as running the summer outdoor activities with my husband who is also a volunteer. We played green bowls, putting and french boules. Recently I helped the activities staff to have an afternoon tea party to raise funds for Alzheimer’s World Day. All of these have been great fun and rewarding for all the residents. By volunteering, I have been able to feel closer to understanding how the different departments all function.

I could not be happier with the service my father is receiving at Gracewell Bookham. As his dementia got worse it became apparent he needed specialist/secure dementia care and I was recommended to visit Gracewell. From the very first interaction, with the admissions manager, I have been blown away
by the kindness, efficiency, care and pride with which the team have welcomed him. Management team members handled the assessment so sensitively and, once admitted, a senior carer, a carer and the team have been amazing in the way they have got to know Dad so quickly and been able to give him such targeted care.
The Memory Care wing is so well designed, his room is lovely and the activities warm-hearted and inclusive. Unprompted, they organised a birthday party for him and within days we were singing and eating ice cream at their own second anniversary BBQ. For the first time in 20 years of caring for my dad, I can relax. He has a new lease of life and so do I!

My aunt arrived at Gracewell after seven weeks in hospital, physically and mentally in a poor state of health and unwilling to successfully cooperate with anyone.


Over time, this has changed through the staff’s dedication, patience, tenacity, compassion and care (much of which was over and above

what might have been expected). All this has meant that my aunt has regained her health and is now able to return to her much loved home after nine months of respite care with Gracewell.


Living a long way from the care home and not being able to visit as often as I would like, I would particularly like to thank all staff for their time, understanding and communication and for giving me the peace of mind that my aunt was in safe hands and that you helped her and us achieve her goals.

Our father, who has suffered from vascular dementia for 8 years, was moved to Gracewell after two years in a substandard care home in Essex. The difference in him is astounding, he has a life full of interaction with the amazing staff at Gracewell and their level of professionalism and concern for his
wellbeing are on another level.
Before we moved him, his speech ability had reduced to barely being able to say a single word, now after five months at Gracewell he can have conversations again and is able to express himself once more. His diabetes is catered for and his general appearance and personal hygiene are as you would want your parent to be.
The general standard of the facility is fantastic and we as a family are very happy with our choice to move him to Gracewell.

I have spent but a few weeks at Gracewell of Bookham but can honestly say that I have been treated like royalty here. The staff are all extremely helpful and pleasant which is so important in a place like this. The services I have received have also been of a high standard, including the food, which
has always been very good indeed - in fact I have felt very spoilt! The activities take place daily and there is always something to interest me.

This is supposed to be a top of the range care home - part of the Sunrise Senior Living Group. I have experience in Sunrise and the lack of ability to retain staff from other care homes. The turnover of staff is ridiculous, the staff morale is poor and quite disrespectful, members of staff openly moaning
about working conditions, short staffed, poor catering cleanliness and response to call buttons being too long.
Staff sitting with feet on nurses station, Mother left in bed and not taken to dinner or offered food until I took her to find the dining room less than half full and part cleared. Other residents still in rooms and not at dinner and still had to ask for a plate of food, then left to feed her myself.
Cups and glasses left for patients who cannot hold cups or utensils without dropping it over themselves. Then to discover the lady washing up, cleaning, etc. is a relative of another resident and not a staff member who, like me, has had enough.
Lipservice granted to relatives but no action.

The staff have been wonderful, providing excellent caring support to both P and ourselves during this initial period. They really have gone that extra mile to ensure P is happy and settled - nothing has been too much trouble. The staff's commitment and dedication is clearly evident in all they do, particularly
in understanding P's needs and how best to meet them.
The stimulation from daily engagement with staff, and their kindness, patience and interest shown to P, have led to noticeable improvements.
The move to Gracewell has been the best thing for P. It has also made such a difference for us - always made to feel welcome, and given the time to chat about how things are going, and with such kindness and understanding.
You just have such confidence, knowing everything is so well managed. And all this in such excellent facilities- it is so lovely to see P in such bright, light, comfortable and well cared for surroundings and sit or wander around with him in the beautiful gardens.

I’m an experienced home manager, and I joined Care UK from another big care provider in 2016. I wanted to be part of a more proactive company that would help me achieve my goals. Care UK has a very good reputation and is well known for caring as much for its colleagues as its residents. 


I believe that, as a home manager, you’re as good as your team. That’s why I always make sure I’m giving colleagues the support they need to do their jobs well. I love walking around the home, checking in with them and the residents. It’s wonderful when residents take the time to sit and chat to me and share what they’ve been doing that day.
